Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Galling

A couple of Frenchman are set for a short stint on the sidelines after falling foul of the referee’s wrath over the weekend’s fixtures. Mathieu Debuchy and Mathieu Flamini received their fifth yellow cards of the campaign, meaning both are set to serve a one-match suspension in Gameweek 12:

Debuchy’s caution in Newcastle’s 1-0 win at White Hart Lane will force him out of the upcoming home game against Norwich as Alan Pardew’s side go in search of a third successive clean sheet. The right-back’s absence is a real blow to the Tyneside team – he has played every minute of the season so far, though the versatile Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa could deputise, allowing fit-again Fabricio Coloccini the chance to slot in alongside Mike Williamson in the heart of the backline.

Flamini has certainly show a flair for racking up the cards since returning to the Emirates this summer. The holding midfielder has received five cautions in just 511 minutes’ game time – his absence for the upcoming visit of Southampton should see Aaron Ramsey shift back into the double-pivot alongside Mikel Arteta, after the Welshman was moved to the right flank once again away to United yesterday.

The Suspension Tightrope welcomed a number of new faces in the Gameweek gone by. West Brom duo Jonas Olsson and Claudio Yacob, Hull’s defensive rock Curtis Davies, Fulham’s Scott Parker, Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic and Norwich’s Michael Turner all climbed aboard on Saturday. Sunday’s matches saw Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, Spurs centre-half Michael Dawson, City’s Javi Garcia, United utility man Phil Jones, Stoke centre-half Robert Huth, Swansea pair Chico and Angel Rangel and Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko also earn their fourth bookings of the season.

Only four clubs – Liverpool, Cardiff, Palace and Southampton – are not represented in the updated widget on your sidebar, which now heaves under the weight of 23 players.

In terms of ongoing suspensions, Sunderland pair Andreas Dossena and Lee Cattermole will sit out the second of a three-match ban in the upcoming round of matches– both will be available for the Gameweek 14 visit of Chelsea. Swansea stopper Michel Vorm makes a return after serving a one-match ban in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Stoke.

    Falling stars update

Another BOOM for the patient pickers as the knee jerk Ramsey transfers continued unabated…For those who read the “falling stars” post for GW11(7/11), I based a team of falling stars based solely on stats alone ..A front line of ”falling stars” strikers who had the most shots at goal for the season so far and a “falling stars” defence made up from those teams who’d had fewest shots conceded in the previous two GW’s.. Two of those defences just happened to play each other, and the result…SWANSEA 3-3 STOKE…!!!..so much for that theory !!..The 4-3-3 formation (most fruitful from the early seasons stats ?) also cost the points of of a benched Sessegnon..

    Tremmel 1pt

    Vlaar 7pts Johnson 6pts Demichelis 2pts Huth 3 pts

    Santi 2pts Coutinho 3pts Cabaye 3pts

    RVP © 18pts Benteke 2 pts Lambert 15 pts

Sessegnon 8 pts Williams 0 pts JWP 2 pts. 62 pts for the GW….(AVG 45 pts)

Happy enough with that result from a team of no rush, no knee jerk, low risk picks.

    Keep watching the fallers folks.

I've already got the cash for Rooney. I did it by downgrading Michu to Januzaj.

I haven't quite got the money for RVP, but I can get it by downgrading say Chico to Rosenior. I've already got 2 other similar priced defenders, the rest can rotate.

Lukaku is still a good option, but I get the feeling that it is now time for the big forwards to dominate.

Aye he is a bit expensive. I'm still undecided. But for me the only difference between him and Rooney in my team is a slightly cheaper defender, so I'm not too bothered. But I guess the extra cash may come in handy at some point.

Remy's at 9.5% ownership, Rooney 13.7%, not too much of a difference.

Plus differentials don't matter. You bring in a player who will score the most points. If he has a low ownership that's just a bonus.

    Terry, Zabaleta, Mertesacker
    Özil, Oscar, Mirallas, Januzaj
    Suárez, Sturridge, Benteke
    (Mignolet, Clyne, Ward, Williams)

Will do Mirallas -> Sessegnon with my 1 FT. Want to do Sturridge -> Rooney, but lack the funds. Zabaleta -> Rat would free up some cash but that would mean a -8 hit for me! What would you recommend? Still have my WC but I feel this is not the time to use it, considering the January WC is only 8 Gameweeks away...

I personally wouldn't. My Dad supports Newcastle, so I'v seen most of their games for quite a few years, and they can be brilliant one week, and awful the next. I just wouldn't trust them no matter what fixture they had. I think Liverpool's fixtures are still enough to keep hold of Sturridge even if Suarez is stealing some points.

I think the latter, personally. Rooney's short term fixtures aren't that easy and its a helluva a lot of dough up top. I know a lot of people are thinking about it because a lot of midfields are a mess (mine included) but I just like the flexibility of having one semi-cheapy up there.

But remember we are only 25% of the way through. So plenty of time yet. You got some really good players so it's just a matter of time before they come good. Stick with it.

I have Rambo, Caz and Ozil at the moment, and I think it's okay. Liverpool, Man U and Man C play for their strikers, whereas Arsenal and Chelsea play for their midfield. Arsenal will score lot's of goals so it's fine in my book. It's not great for h2h's with bad fixtures, but you can still get through even if they blank. Last week Ramsey got me 10, Cazorla 11 and Ozil 6 and they saved my week.
I have to say though that I might not have gotten rid of Ramsey if he wasn't owned by loads of people. No excitement in it for me with such high ownership.

I guess we share a common PoV WK. I'm looking at it this way.
If Wally returns, he'll want to play as much as he can and score as much as possible because it's a WC year. That and he has a point to prove after being injured. I had Wally last year, and he was a sensational pick.

    Ozil=van Persie?

Having sold mesut a couple of weeks ago, i thought I'd explain my logic. Now approaching £11m, ozil is about £1.5m more than any other midfield heavy hitters with decent ownership figures. Van Persie is similar. At just under £14m he's £2m more than arguably the three most desirable forwards in the game, the holy trinity, the three wise men, musketeers et al. (suarez, aguero, Rooney).

The majority of fantasy managers have dismissed van Persie as overpriced. At his price, you're really expecting/wanting a return each week. With ozil similarly priced (given he is the most expensive midfielder and a similar amount more exoensive than other options) I think if you are dismissing van Persie, you should be dismissing mesut too. Neither united nor arsenal (nor any other side) are capable of delivering attacking wise every week and that IMO will be the only time we can consider Robins Van Persie or Mesut Ozil.

Would really appreciate some opinions in this: is letting mesut go a mistake? Will united click and van Persie return to the border of 'Essentialland'? Anyway, that's just something that I've been thinking about! 🙂

Mesut needs Wally back to stretch the field and thus he can make defence splitting passes - what hes good at. Without wally all the midfielders and bundled up on the edge of the area looking for a opening to Giroud. In this situation ozil is no different to cazorla or ramsey.

Plenty of mid priced ones doing well enough, and it would allow that big 3 up top. Ie Ramsey, lallana, sessegnon, hazard/Oscar/Gerrard for a bit more. Also allows more defensive spending.

Just looked at the transfers page and he's 7th for mids after missing the first 3 games so he's right up there in PPG for mids. Another factor is confidence in the players, I'm confident that Ozil can consistently return. Players like Lallana and Sess will go on runs if 2 pointers, especially when the fixtures are against them.

Yes, but I'd say that's almost paradoxical. If ozil will deliver consistently his returns might be: 3,5,7,2,13,2,3,4. Sessegnon might be2,2,3,5,7,11,5,6,3. There's nothing to say that you can't keep a player when he's in form and sell later?

True but getting mid priced players at the right time isn't easy. Yes you can use fixtures to help but it doesn't always work out that way. There is also the transfer cost of switching mid priced form players against sticking with a premium priced regular scorer.

      Great post.

Letting Ozil go is a mistake imo.
Sir Perc will not be essential this season.

I like the way you think.

Just having a tinker, thoughts on this side, assuming Walcott is fit:

    Vorm, Davies
    Vlaar, Terry, Clyne, Burner, Chester
    Ravel, Jacuzzi, Coutinho, Walcott, Ramsey
    VP, Suarez, Aguero

    ?

    vidic baines burner (dawson wilson)
    ramsey hazard januzaj nasri (barkley)

not liking the look of burner/januzaj/lukaku in my starting 11....could remove wilson/barkley/lukaku? take a hit?

Not for me, no. RavMo and Brady should be 4/5th midfielders.

    I can afford this move:

    Silva & Sturridge ➡ Sessegnon & Suarez
    for a hit ?

Should I do it now despite the international break ? Afterwards, it won't be possible because of finance

It's a bit 50/50 really, could work or it could blow up in your face. I'd do it now, gamble a little.
