Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Saturday

Saturday’s six matches get under way with five three o’clock kick-offs before Newcastle host West Brom in the North East this evening. While Arsenal and Everton are the only true rich sources of Fantasy talent on show, the teamsheets certainly give a few of us something to consider as we head into the hectic December schedule.

We start the team news at Goodison, where there’s a couple of surprises in the Everton lineup as both Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas drop to the bench – perhaps with the midweek trip to Old Trafford in mind. Both were impressive in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool last time out but warm the timber this time around as Leon Osman is recalled and Barcelona loanee Gerard Deulofeu is given his first Premier League start. At the back, Bryan Oviedo replaces the injured Leighton Baines. Visitors Stoke are forced into a pair of changes with Robert Huth and Marko Arnautovic both absent through injury. Oussama Assaidi returns to the starting XI, while Marc Muniesa is given his first league start for the Potters.

Paul Lambert brings Antonio Luna, Gabby Agbonlahor, Andreas Weimann and Fabian Delph back into his Villa lineup to face Sunderland following their role in the Hawthorns comeback. Nathan Baker, Yacouba Sylla, Libor Kozak and Aleks Tonev make way. Gus Poyet also makes three changes to the Sunderland teamsheet, as in come Craig Gardner, Fabio Borini and Andrea Dossena with Jack Colback, Adam Johnson and Ondrej Celustka dropping to the bench.

Sam Allardyce makes no less than four changes to his West Ham lineup to face Fulham, with one of them of great significance. Ravel Morrison drops to the bench having started the last nine Premier League matches; Joe Cole also makes way, along with Joey O’Brien and Jack Collison. The Hammers start with George McCartney, Mohamed Diame, Modibo Maiga and Matt Jarvis. As for Fulham, they are without the injury Dimitar Berbatov, so Adel Taarabt is handed a rare start for Martin Jol’s side. Damien Duff and Steve Sidwell also return as Bryan Ruiz and Derek Boateng miss out.

Arsene Wenger has the luxury of selecting an unchanged side for the trip to Cardiff as Theo Walcott is again kept in reserve. The home side make just a single change with Kim Bo-Kyung given the nod over Peter Odemwingie.

Finally, at Carrow Road, Chris Hughton makes three changes to his Norwich lineup as in come Johan Elmander, Wes Hoolahan and Seb Bassong. Anthony Pilkington misses out through injury, Bradley Johnson and Michael Turner drop to the bench. Tony Pulis makes two changes for his first match in charge of Palace as Jason Puncheon comes in for the suspended Yannick Bolasie. Cameron Jerome is preferred to Dwight Gayle up front.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open and will be with you throughout today’s matches, right through to the final whistle at St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

so I've decided I'm going to bring in a Liverpool defender for Rat. Skrtel, Agger or GJ? Thinking GJ but Skrtel is a BPS magnet even if he's only actually gotten 3 bonus points..

GJ is most nailed on, Skrtel most likely to get goals.

Skrtel/Agger will be rotated a certain amount, there's rumours Skrtel will miss tomorrow's game with a gashed shin, and i'd imagine there could be a different CB pairing for the midweek game too

I made that move. Slightly concerned by the talk of Gerrard "eventually" playing defense, but not too worrying. It's a push on form so I made the swap based solely on fixtures. Go for it!

with Skrtel and Agger both fit (a gash is just a gash) I don't see why they would need to? I mean I guess he could be pushed back into the role he had under Rafa back when Xabi was still at Pool..

Would have waited 2 weeks for Coleman, 2 tough GWs back to back. I guess Ozil is a little more iffy with Wally back. Remy's fixtures were going to get a bit harder. Aguero alone will make up his 8pts. The rest seems like a push.

eeesh sorry to repost my squad, but I just realized I can't do a straight swap with Rat for a Pool defender due to 3 players cap..don't really want to bring in Merte yet because there fixtures aren't great until GW18

think I should just stick for now and save my FT and start Clyne, Terry and Burner in the back?

Evra or Kos could be ok short term. Evra is due a price increase (or is it done?) and Merte and Kos are behind at about 50%. Don't think you'd have too tough of a week with Clyne and Burner.

Is it time to give up on Barkley?

Sure, looks brilliant when he plays but it's not transferring into FPL points. And today he didn't start (or play) again. Already have Lukaku so well covered in attacking areas.

I thought they might get an extra point for scoring 12 in a game

even if he hasn't got any competition. he's classified as a striker. no room for him in me team.

Ramsey>Ozil>Walcott>Giroud. in that order, even if Rooney gets a yellow tomorrow id still keep him if Aguero dont rise any further.

Fixture wise is Lloris and DeGea. Chelsea have Arsenal yet to play.

I don't trust United in defense just yet, even if the fixtures look so promising..will see how we play tomorrow coming off the big win in Germany

haven't watched much Spurs..they've been solid in defense with their high line right? was City just a one-off?

I think Spurs are bottom 5 (maybe 3) on goals conceded, but so are Chelsea. Would be interesting to know top saves as well.

yep, 5th with 12 goals conceded..Cech with 33 saves this season and Lloris with 30..

been toying with a clever little move..currently have Lewis and Migs, might bring in Marshall for Migs to bring in GJ and then after that bring in Howard for Lewis once past United and Arsenal to enjoy their nice spell through GW23.
