Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 28

Our new regular round-up of the fresh injury worries occurred over the previous weekend arrives this afternoon. We also dig deeper to discover just why a trio of key players only made the bench over Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures:

Arsenal
Arsene Wenger revealed Mesut Ozil was “fit to start” away to Stoke after recovering from a thigh injury. The German was only utilised as a second-half sub, however, as his manager reckons he has played “many many games” and is wary of fatigue playing a part in his record signing’s displays.

Aston Villa
Chris Herd has only just recovered from a hamstring problem but is out of the picture for the foreseeable future after the club released the following statement yesterday:

“The club can confirm that due to personal reasons Chris Herd will be unavailable for selection until further notice. There will be no further comment and we request that Chris’s privacy be respected.”

Cardiff
Craig Noone took to twitter to confirm he missed yesterday’s trip to Tottenham after picking up ”a slight knock”, though is optimistic of a return in time for the weekend clash against Fulham.

Crystal Palace
Glenn Murray was only fit enough for the bench as Palace travelled to Swansea yesterday. The forward made his first start of the season in Gameweek 27 but dropped out of the starting XI after picking up a knock in midweek. Joe Ledley played the full 90 minutes but is set to be assessed before joining up with the Wales squad this week – the midfielder admitted he is struggling with a hip problem and may have to withdraw from international duties. In the last few minutes, Palace have also confirmed Kagisho Dikgacoi has withdrawn from the South Africa squad to face Brazil because of injury.

Everton
Roberto Martinez admitted Romelu Lukaku was only fit enough to be utilised from the bench after he picked up a chest infection prior to Saturday’s visit of West Ham.

Fulham
Brede Hangeland was forced off early in the first period after an accidental clash of heads with team-mate Kieran Richardson and was taken to hospital for scans on Saturday evening. Fulham confirmed he was given the all-clear to return home, though it’s uncertain whether he will join up with the Norway squad in midweek.

Hull
The match commentary from the club’s official website revealed Curtis Davies “had been limping for much of the second half” before he was subbed off towards the end of Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat by Newcastle.

Newcastle
The Magpies back-up keeper Rob Elliot missed Saturday’s home hammering with a knee problem and has withdrawn from this week’s Republic of Ireland squad.

Norwich
Having been handed his first start since Gameweek 23 last weekend, Rickie Van Wolfswinkel was expected to start for Norwich’s trip to Villa but was ruled out of the match against Paul Lambert’s side with a knee problem, Chris Hughton has revealed. Robert Snodgrass lasted just 45 minutes before being withdrawn at the break due to a wrist injury and has subsequently pulled out of the Scotland squad. The Canaries boss elaborated on the trio after yesterday’s defeat:

“Ricky got a whack on his knee in the Tottenham game. He didn’t train at the beginning of the week but we felt generally it would be okay. Unfortunately it was still too sore come Saturday. Leroy does have a hamstring pull. We are still assessing how bad it is and we had to take Robert off at half-time because he felt his wrist when he fell making a tackle towards the end of the first half so he won’t go with Scotland.”

Earlier this afternoon, Hughton’s worries were compounded by the news that Martin Olsson has been forced to withdraw from Sweden’s midweek friendly with Turkey due to a shoulder problem.

Southampton
The Saints’ official twitter stream confirmed second choice keeper Kelvin Davis missed Saturday’s home loss to Liverpool after picking up a knock.

Swansea
Pablo Hernandez lasted just 22 minutes of the first period before being subbed off with yet another hamstring problem. After yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Palace, Garry Monk also confirmed he subbed off both Ashley Williams and Wilfried Bony due to illness:

“We’ve had illness in the camp over the last few days. Bony’s been ill, Ash was sick all last night and Pablo felt his hamstring in the first minute. Ash was ill today and has two badly bruised toes, but it shows his character and the leader that he is that he continues to play.”

Tottenham
After grabbing a goal and assist in Thursday’s Europa League win over Dnipro, Christian Eriksen was expected to be handed a starting role at home to Cardiff yesterday. Unfortunately for Tim Sherwood’s side, the Dane missed out altogether with a back problem, the club’s official twitter stream has confirmed. Zeki Fryers has withdrawn from the England Under 21 squad this morning with an ankle injury.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      Not sure yet on Aguero.
Would be gutted if he missed the Fulham game, only playing the derby.
And that looks possible if we assume they'll err on the side of caution because he's been rushed back once already.
      Tricky.

Aguero is tough. given that imo theres chance he wont play gw 30 (so as to not risk him coming back) and to have Kun, i assume most tams will need multiple transfers.

    Team for this week

    Boruc
    Terry, Bassong, Ward
    Hazard, Mata, Snodgrass, Eriksen
    Ade

Concerned about Eriksen & Snoddy's playing, but wanted to save FT for DGW players to get out 9 then with 2 x -4's

so do I stick or spend FT on replacing someone for this week?

Everton actually have 2 games in hand, for GW31+, but the DGW's have not been scheduled yet.

        Coleman gets my vote.

Zabaleta is not a good pick. If you want MC coverage for their 3 DGW's, get Hart or Kompany. The only ones guaranteed to start IMO

Seen a lot about taking hits for DGW-ers in GW31. Tempted to myself. However, a few of the DGW-ers have relatively poor fixtures after GW31, so I wouldn't go crazy if I was you. 🙂

I think it's most applicable to defenders really. Yaya and Kun will be in my team for sure, but splashing out on a City defender just for the Fulham clean sheet would be questionable. Who are the two fixtures to be re-arranged?

Would anyone take a £1.2 million hit to get Rooney in for Suarez this week ? I don't think its worth it unless I do it and kept him for the double g/w which I don't really want to do. It also involves a -4 hit

Similar thing tbh. I currently have 8 playing but for an 8 point hit and some loss on transfer value I could field 11 when most people in my m/l have 6 players max. Still have my W/C in hand so easy enough to change things around come the double g/w

      A) From that bunch, Evra as he has a GW 29 game. The others don't and if anything like last week, a few could see large scale selling and be at risk of falling in price by Thursday/Friday.

Evra games in week 30 and 31 aren't brilliant, but they improve massively after the DGW.

      B) Hazard, I reckon RVP is the Man Utd option for captaincy.

i can always get him after gw31 but the question: is he likely to score more points in dgw than say flanagan or a west ham or hull defence (as they all comes cheap and have good fixtures running into dgw except for flanagan and this means i can upgrade my mids by getting Silva or Yaya and Nolan)

in that case, go with the cheaper defender to have a stronger mid.

Liverpool could have Enrique back soon, so Flanagan could be at risk, Collins could be challenged by Reid.

Not sure I'd use a free transfer this week for any of them just to avoid a drop. Honestly any of them could drop too and the transfer becomes pointless.

I'd be tempted to move Carroll even though he has DGW31, if there were any options in the range with a game this week. Jay Rod / Lambert seem the best candidates, but with 3 Southampton already that involves a -4.

I'd save the FT and keep building for GW31 doubles ( which you seem in decent shape for already)

Just a quick question on how you guys think of these transfers for the next couple of GWs ( I know that there will be injuries but I have some plan at least )

    Team ATM is

    Marshall Mannone
    Coleman Ward Ivanovic Burner Clyne
    Mata Eriksen Lallana Hazard Pozuelo
    Suarez Sturridge Adebayor

    0.7 ITB and 2 FT

These are the transfers I will be making for

GW 29: Clyne ➡ MOlsson ( will wait until update on his injury )
GW 30: Adebayor ➡ Agüero if he is available
GW 31: Mata and Eriksen ➡ Sterling and Nolan
GW 32: Probably upgrade Pozuelo ➡ someone like Livermore

Any ideas on these plans and yes I know that there will be loads of injuries

    Cheers in advance 🙂

    The great thing about UFPL

I can sell Suarez and Sturridge to RvP and Rooney this week, then swap back again at no extra cost 😀

I assume, at this stage, no other games will be added to GW31?

I am increasingly likely to keep my WC in the hope that a better DGW pops up.

I know, it's quite comical really. There is some logic though..if i want aguero for gw31 i will need to take a hit anyway and start saving money somewhere, 2 birds killed with 1 shit stone.

Any clever maths people answer this
My golf club has got Ryder cup tickets to raffle
They have 6 prizes of a pair of tickets per prize and they are limiting it to 200 people.
If I but one what are the odds of winning and would those odds half if I bought two
