The Weekend Team News

Newcastle suffer a double injury blow to Loic Remy and Mathieu Debuchy. Aaron Ramsey remains out for Arsenal. Kyle Walker and Sandro are doubts for Spurs. Victor Wanyama is a worry for Southampton. Craig Gardner and Wes Brown are available for Sunderland. West Brom’s injury list continues to grow, whilst Michu is back in full training for Swansea:

Alan Pardew was left reeling after both Loic Remy and Mathieu Debuchy were ruled out of Newcastle’s next three to four games with calf and groin injuries sustained on recent international duty. Fabricio Coloccini will return after missing the Hull victory due to a family bereavement.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Aaron Ramsey will miss the North London derby, despite earlier whispers that the Welshman would make his long-awaited return at the weekend. Ramsey is out for a couple of weeks, whilst Mesut Ozil is sidelined for three-to-six weeks with a hamstring injury. Nacho Monreal is available, though fellow left-back Kieran Gibbs is still a doubt. January signing Kim Kallstrom is finally injury-free and Yaya Sanogo “has a chance” of making the trip to Tottenham.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has a near fully-fit squad to choose from for the weekend, after confirming that Craig Gardner and Wes Brown have both resumed training. The pair missed last week’s loss to Hull with knocks but are in contention to face Palace at the weekend, as are Jozy Altidore and Valentin Roberge who have recovered from illness.

West Brom’s injury woes have worsened with Pepe Mel ruling Steven Reid, Claudio Yacob and Billy Jones out of the trip to Swansea at the weekend. The trio have knee and hamstring injuries respectively and join Chris Brunt and Diego Lugano on the sidelines.

Garry Monk could be boosted by the return of Michu following several weeks out through injury. The Spaniard is back in full training, with Monk set to make a decision on his involvement later today. Elsewhere, Pablo Hernandez is expected to feature after limping off against palace, with later scans revealing no significant damage. Jonjo Shelvey is unlikely to be involved following the recurrence of a hamstring problem, whilst Nathan Dyer remains a doubt with a bruised foot. Chico Flores will miss the game through suspension, meaning Jordi Amat will fill in ahead of the injured Kyle Bartley.

Alex Tettey is available for Norwich following an injury scare against Stoke last week. Michael Turner and Jonas Gutierrez remain sidelined for the Canaries, though the pair have returned to training following hamstring and calf injuries respectively.

West Ham have the luxury of an almost fully-fit squad to choose from, with Sam Allardyce confirming that Joey O’Brien and Marco Borriello are the club’s only injury absentees for the trip to the Britannia.

Tim Sherwood is sweating over the fitness of Kyle Walker and Sandro after both players were subbed off during last night’s Europa League defeat against Benfica.

Jack Cork has been ruled out for a few weeks with an ankle injury for Southampton, whilst Victor Wanyama is a doubt. Dejan Lovren was ill earlier in the week but “should be fine” to face Norwich.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

    My team for this week.
    Speroni-Marshal
    Ivanovic-Sagna-MOlsson-Chambers-Vlaar
    Hazard-Mata-Lallana-Mutch-Ince
    Suarez-Rooney-Ade
I have 2 FTs and 1.5 in the bank. Looking to use one transfer this week. Please do not suggest Mata->Yaya. I think I should use FT this week to sort out defence.
    A) Speroni -> Mannone
    B) MOlsson -> Distin/Kolarov
    or maybe
    C) Ade -> Lukaku

How many season keepers have you had?

Suarez, Boruc and Hazard are the only 3 I've had for a significant amount of time, it might be a templatey season but the template changes every week, not the game's fault that we're all expecting the same players to do well..

        4 previous to this.

        Mannone
2 Chelsea defenders, an everton defender (coleman in most cases)
        Hazard, Yaya
        Sturridge Suarez Rooney/Lukaku

That is the template and has been for weeks now. It doesn't change every week, apart from that third striker spot until recently.

          I disagree,

          I'd slim that down to:

          Chelsea defender, possible Coleman.

Hazard (Every season has the top season keeper mid).
Lots of teams without Yaya, some have Gerrard, some have Mata, some have another City mid, some have Arsenal mid like Santi.

Suarez/Sturridge is template, and I would actually like it if one of them was injured to shake it up again because its boring when you can only change one forward space.
The third spot is contested by Remy, Lukaku, Rooney, RVP, Ade, Lambert, Aguero, Bony, etc.. not just Rooney/Lukaku.

Just a bit of basic analysis on Lukaku.

For Everton in the PL he's not scored a goal in 60% of his appearances. He's not gotten an assist in 70% of matches.

Overall he's failed to produce ANY returns in 35% of his appearances for them.

This suggests that if he doesn't score a goal he'll get an assist and vice versa. Rare for him to absolutely smash it. So if you go for him I'd really recommend not giving him the armband. The argument that he plays against Cardiff is fair however he's failed to score a goal against CPL, Hull, Stoke, Sunderland, WBA, Swansea, Fulham so far this season and most of those matches would have been anticipated to be good fixtures for him.

Yeah, I wouldn't have thought Aguero's injury is anything to worry about, but it has really thrown a cat amongst the pigeons.
The Lukaku move is a bit basic though, that's the only thing about it. I have seen him flop against all sorts. It started with me hiding behind the sofa, worried how much he'd score, to being confident he would' do well. It's different now I own him.

He's an odd player is Lukaku. I think it's the team he's in too, a lot of ambitious attacking midfielders and full backs looking for goals. It's actually quite a similar team to Chelsea which is another funny point. Despite what some people think, Lukaku's returns based on the time he's played are very similar to Eto'o. It's funny that people think if Lukaku was playing for Chelsea they'd be smashing it when in reality they'd be quite similar really. Possibly even worse because the Chelsea mids are more greedy!

Who would you give it to so?

      Suarez at Old Trafford?
      Hazard away to Villa?
      Lallana at home vs Norwich?
      Yaya at Hull?

None of them are guaranteed any points at all either.. Lukaku looks the best of a bad week for captains.

United might not crumble to Liverpool at home..

Hull might not crumble to City at home, City haven't been scoring well..

Cardiff don't stand a chance of keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

I disagree, Liverpool are the most attacking side in the PL. Their issue is keeping a CS but United could be caught, especially with the speed of their counter, the United midfield might be overwhelmed.

The Hull point is flawed too, they've not kept a CS at home since the 28th of December against Fulham.

Not saying Cardiff do but that doesn't equate to Lukaku scoring. They trounced Fulham 4-1 and all he got was one assist. In fact he's only had 2 matches where he's scored 2 goals and only 1 match where he's scored a goal as well as getting an assist. He doesn't do big hauls.

I don't see Hull capitulating at home to an off-form City, although I do expect City to win, but that's not convincing me to captain Yaya.

I agree that Liverpool are amazing going forward and United haven't been great this season but United are turning things around and have players like Fellaini coming back, I don't see Liverpool destroying them at Old Trafford.. but Suarez is my VC and I couldn't decide between him and Lukaku for a while so I see your point.

Lukaku can't keep disappointing everyone all of the time, he's a good player with great potential playing in a good team that are still playing for something up against the second worst side in the league AT HOME..

He might not have contributed as much against Fulham but the fact that they put 4 goals past them makes me think they're capable of putting 4 past Cardiff, something I don't expect Suarez or Yaya to accomplish with their respective teams this week.

So we're basing this season going on last season? I better buy Michu and captain him so.

You're still completely missing the point, Liverpool and City don't have to smash the other teams at all. Suarez could get a goal and an assist, very reasonable. Yaya could simply score a penalty or fk for a 1-0. Both of them would be a better return than 1 goal or 1 assist which could be all Lukaku gets.

Look if you're convinced that he's the best captaincy option that's fine and I wish you the best of luck with it but he's burned people who have given him the armband frequently this season. That's my point.

Nah not basing this season off last season, just saying that it's in his locker to get a big haul.

Still not 100% decided between him and Suarez and I see your point of view, I guess I'd rather go for the player that MIGHT explode rather than the player that has a slightly better chance of returning..

If Liverpool don't smash United then the 1 or 2 goals they score could have nothing to do with Suarez, they could be anyone from that team. Same with City winning 0-1, might not be yaya.

Everton don't have as many goalscorers as those two teams at the moment, and I'm going to give Lukaku a chance before the DGW.

I see your points, and I respect your view, but I might just go with Lukaku to live life dangerously 😉 not much of a risk this week as no stand-out option.

Yep, as you say Eriksen clearly has license to come infield a bit, whereas Kagawa is clearly played within a Moyes shaped straight jacket.

He looked quite lively last night but I hate to say in a very poor team 🙁

Benfica are good on the counter-attack and fast plays, but Spurs still entered well in the game but unfortunately Luisão was in his best days defensively, he cleared them all in the first 20 mins. and then the goals ofc.

As part of GW30/31 who is the best Man City MF to have apart from Toure and Silva

    &

Who would have out of these lot for a striker position (again for initially GW30/31)

    Other STs S & S

    RVP
    Dzeko
    Rooney

    Any ideas would be good

Nasri and Navas are risky, as they could get a game each, but if plumping for one then go Nasri.

Fernandinho is nailed, but less likely to get you points.

Rooney is probably the best all round best out of those strikers - cheaper than RVP, more nailed than Dzeko.

Here's one for you...getting Yaya in for gw31, who should accompany him?

    Baines or Gerrard?

is it worth holding on to hazard even though he's got no double game weeks? thinking a swap to yaya makes sense... hard to pull the trigger though.

You'll want Hazard back for their great run-in..

Have a look at Chelsea's fixtures after gw31 before you make your mind up. It's not completely insane tho.

I'm doing exact same transfer, only way I can gain the cover. Many would say for me to get rid of Mata instead but no way with a double lined up
