Scout Mission – Gameweek 37

As Fantasy managers sharpen their plans for the upcoming double, this week’s Mission already has one eye on the final round of fixtures. With the tension at both ends of the table cranked up, the upcoming scenarios are likely to have a major knock-on effect on our targets and transfer plans for Gameweek 38:

Giggs’ response to Mata’s display…
Benched against Norwich, Juan Mata won the post-match plaudits and high praise from Ryan Giggs and will expect to start against Hull. Fantasy managers will be looking for rich returns from the Spaniard over the two Gameweek home fixtures and yet, with Robin van Persie a possible option for Giggs, Mata’s starting role, his position on the field and his potential returns are all up in the air.

Chelsea’s reaction to Atletico beating…
Found out by Atletico’s counter-attacking in last night’s defeat at the Bridge, Chelsea return to domestic duties with the title still a possibility. With Eden Hazard back in the ranks, we surely have to expect a strong performance and three points that will likely banish Norwich to the Championship. Fantasy managers need Chelsea to keep their hat in the ring – the final day trip to Cardiff could well be profitable, with Hazard a potential target, should Jose Mourinho’s side maintain their interest with a win this weekend.

Pellegrini’s approach at Goodison…
Last weekend’s results mean that City have one hand on the title and now Manuel Pellegrini has to prepare to cope with the pressure, whilst bracing his side to enter the Goodison Park cauldron. Both Liverpool and Chelsea will be praying for a slip up and, having seen United fall foul of Roberto Martinez’ counter-attacking tactics, it will be interesting to see how Pellegrini sets his side out. The Chilean stuck with a 4-4-2 at Selhurst Park and it seems likely that both Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko will pair up again on Merseyside. David Silva’s potential return from injury could prompt a rethink, however, with Pellegrini mindful of mirroring United’s display and allowing the Toffees to hit them on the break. City’s defence, as we’ve seen often in their campaign, keep a high line and can be exposed to pace.

Sturridge’s return to the fray…
Brendan Rodgers will be dusting down his troops and preparing to throw Daniel Sturridge back into the mix for the trip to Palace. The Chelsea set-back has handed the initiative to City, forcing Liverpool to go on the attack and earn the points at Selhurst Park. Having lost out to City last weekend, Tony Pulis has had a rehearsal of this scenario and his side will provide a stubborn obstacle. Fantasy managers need three points from Liverpool, however, keeping Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge as active and motivated assets going into the final day meeting with Newcastle at Anfield.

The Arsenal momentum…
While the tussle at the top rumbles on, Arsenal are the unlikely form side right now. The routine 3-0 win over Newcastle on Monday gave them a third straight victory and set them up nicely for ties with West Brom and Norwich; essentially, we need the Gunners to remain interested and determined to see out the season with a flourish. While fourth place can be booked with three points against the Baggies, Fantasy managers will be desperate for Arsene Wenger to maintain his side’s momentum going into the trip to Carrow Road in Gameweek 38. Norwich could well be relegated by then, with Aaron Ramsey and company earmarked as potential Fantasy targets for a final day push.

The budget striker for the final dice roll…
The form of Connor Wickham has given Sunderland and us Fantasy managers an unlikely fairytale to end the season. If he can come out of the Gameweek 37 double with further goals, there’s little doubt that he offers an obvious route for those looking to roll the dice in the final Gameweek. Both Wickham and Tottenham’s Harry Kane (with Aston Villa at home on the final day) represent an option to shake up our frontlines and free up budget to invest in a couple of midfield heavy hitters. Score again in Gameweek 37 and the temptation to take that risk builds further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Repost from bottom of last post:

Down by 5 points in my ML but my rival just took two hits and exhausted his funds thus making me believe he's brought in Yaya, Aguero and Rooney to match my Nasri, Aguero, Rooney. We both have Suarez, Eriksen and Mata, I've got AJ against his Ramsey. And that's about it ... defence is pretty similar. So if I am to win this thing should I:

    a) Coleman to Alonso
    b) Coleman + Suarez to Evra + Wickham -4 p then Rooney to Suarez for GW 38

If I do the second I have more differentials and If I don't I must pray for bad scores for both Ramsey and Yaya and a good score for AJ. What do you guys reckon? Cheers!

Advice needed please. My team is:

    Adrian
    Coleman Demichelis Azpilicueta
    Amalfitano Johnson Touré Mata
    Rooney Agüero Suárez

    Subs: Speroni Eriksen Stones Chambers

Should I take an -8pt hit to bring in De Gea for Speroni and Alonso for Coleman?

I'm 0.1m short of being able to bring De Gea in without transferring Alonso. These transfers would leave me enough to bring in Ramsey for Johnson for GW38.

*** Taking Hits for DGW Defenders - CS Analysis ***

I see a lot of hits being taken for Sunderland and United defenders. I'm sceptical about this. Here's some analysis to show why (only takes into account CS returns)
    .

    **KEY**
Defender A - The defender you would have played, had you not made the transfer.
Defender B - The transferred in defender.

    .
    Scenario 1 - Defender A gets a CS
    - If Defender B gets 0 CS, then you would make ~ 6PT LOSS
    - If Defender B gets 1 CS, then you would make ~ 2PT LOSS
    - If Defender B gets 2 CS, then you would make ~ 2PT PROFIT

In this scenario there is slim chance of making a profit, and if you do, it will only be around 2pts. Much risk for little reward. If the defender you would be replacing in your XI has a good chance of a CS, do not transfer them out for a hit.

    .
Scenario 2 - Defender A does NOT get a CS
    - If Defender B gets 0 CS, then you would make ~ 2PT LOSS
    - If Defender B gets 1 CS, then you would make ~ 2PT PROFIT
    - If Defender B gets 2 CS, then you would make ~ 6PT PROFIT

If the defender you replaced in your XI fails to get a CS, then there is much more chance of profit. The risk/reward ratio is improved, but are such mediocre returns worth the risk? Especially as getting 2 CSs is unlikely.

I think BP's should also be considered, specially if we are taking about CB's that might keep clean sheets.

In the case I am considering (Distin to Vidic for a hit) then I think it is worth it. If I kept Distin, then I would choose to play Ward. I don't envisage a clean sheet for Palace but I think the odds for a clean sheet and/or a goal from Vidic are quite good (and hence high chance of BP's), so it is worth the 4pt hit IMO.

The thing is, United will probably score goals. Hence taking baps away from defenders. I'm not addin all the different bap scenarios! 😀

I don't get how this works?

If defender A got a clean sheet, you'd have 6 points.
Then with defender B, you start off with -4 points, he then gets two points, so that's -2. Which is a difference of 8 points.

Important to consider as well is defenders getting negative points for goals conceded; these scenarios seem to all be presuming only 0 or 1 goals allowed when many games will feature more than that.

It's a base to start from, it would get really complex if I did that.

Because this is relative, it assumes all deductions/gains will even out amongst the players.

But you've also gotta take onto account GW38. As some may bring in a player to play that week as well. Like I would have been playing Adrian these next two weeks, instead I took a hit for De Gea.

Source: The Daily Mail , October 2013

    Who was being interviewed?

''I think I need a bit of time. I feel good here, although getting used to life here in every sense is a completely different thing. I've barely been here two months, so time is maybe what I need. I need training, a bit of rhythm, some games. English football is very different from the game in Italy - much more physical, whereas Serie A is more tactical.

My moment will come and I will make the difference.I get on very well with the manager. He speaks Spanish which helps me a bit. It's also important for me to get into the Argentina squad for the World Cup, but I'm confident I'll play here. We are involved in four competitions so there are many games ahead.'
