KPI Forward Analysis – 2013/14 Most Improved

With the World Cup on pause for a couple of days, we take time to delve into the domestic data from the 2013/14 season. In the first of a series of features focussing on the KPI statistics in the Members area, we assess the most improved forwards over the season gone by, listing the main players in accordance with goal attempts from inside the box:

For the unfamiliar, these Key Performers Indicator (KPI) tables are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or change in player performance. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics and comparing over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain each player’s form, whether it be an improvement or decrease in displays on the pitch. As mentioned in last summer’s introductory article, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

For the purpose of this series of articles, we analyse the previous two seasons as a means of comparison:

Currently third overall in the Mirror game, with 10 grand up for grabs its squeaky bum time.

    Thinking something along these lines

    GK Cillesen

    DEF Marcelo, Zabaleta, Blind

    MID Muller, James, Valbuena, Sneijder(?)

    FWD Neymar, Messi, RVP (c)

Subs at present - GK LLoris, Oscar, Boateng, Mertsecker.

Big questions are do I bring in Robben for Neymar as a possible captain?
Would Di Maria be a better shout then Sneijder?

I think its worth getting rid of a German bench defender for someone else too, perhaps in preparation for the semi finals when Germany would probably face Brazil etc..

    Decisions, Decisions

Another option is to sell Marcelo for Alves as Alves should give Armero a tough time on the right flank

Personally, I don't like Valbuena because he's basically a midget so I'd have him out for Oscar (forget all this pro-Columbia nonsense you read on here - Brazil will progress). Having said that, Columbia will probably score so I'd have Marcelo out for that other Dutchman de Vrij (double cleanie and scoring potential there). A double Argie defence also seems good because Belgium will be far too concerned about keeping Messi quiet to bother to much about scoring themselves.

Forget Di Maria: he's a liability. Sneijder is a much better option. And while I'll be bringing in Robben myself, I'll find it hard to captain anyone other than Messi.

      Good luck!

Sneijder has done nothing the whole tournament except from that goal, how is he a good option if I may ask? Fair enough he has a good goal record in the knock-out stages but if we're going on form, he's been abysmal.

P.S. I didn't realise Valbuena was actually 5'6" until I looked him up. I know the telly can make a person appear shorter and fatter but I genuinely thought he looked about 5'2"!

My argument - If he scores 1, he ends up with about 10-12 points which is about the same return as a much cheaper DM (-1 or 2) and I expect the games to be a lot tighter in this round, the odd goal could come from anywhere really. It's not like the case of Messi who HAS to be involved with every Argentinian goal.

I guess the question is how you would feel of he scores 16 points and you have Lahm that fouls too much, gets a yellow and scores 4 or 5?

Sure Lahm may be safer to score 7-9 pts, but he definitely won't score 15-16.

Which comes down to whether you want to win the game or finish comfortably in the middle?

    Yaya Ramsey Eriksen Hazard/Fabregas

How many points did Mascherano get this round btw?

Mascherano got 11 without even scoring/assisting. He's a points machine and is much more easily "guaranteed" points.

Mmmm You make a strong case. Di Maria only got 10, and I don't see him getting more than 1 goal/assist this game. I'll experiment with it 😛

Hey guys think ive finally sorted my sun dream team transfers.. Would love to get some tips or players I might not want to have for whatever reason. New to this site. Bearing in mind on sun dream team I only get ONE sub after quarters. My team is

    Lloris

    Alderweireld, De Vrij, Blind, Howedes

    Muller, JRod, Robben

    Messi, Neymar, Benzema

    look forward to some response.............

Well i would put my eggs in one basket so to speak, so wouldn't pick players from both teams that play each other as your guaranteeing yourself to lose players. I prefer the go for broke option and either have no players playing or a full 11 almost.

Germany, Holland and Argentina are where im placing my eggs. Hollands defence is cheap on the Sun game and they play a Costa Rica team who looked very tired the other night. (as did NL to be fair).

My team was a complete mixture to start with lol. its hard to favour teams with only four subs. ive brought the three dutch players in cause I think they have a real good chance of reaching the semis. then I brought Howedes in for Rojo as hes banned. was gonna leave rojo in as I think Arg will go through but botled loosing any vital points.

Heres my team if it helps...

              Cilessen
              Mertesacker Martin-Indi DeVrij Blind
              Muller JRod Robben
              Messi Neymar RVP

As you can see im screwed if Holland go out.

Not a great team really. The defense is crap, bar Shaw, who may take a while to do well and bed in.

Rooney is fat and finished in my opinion. RVP will do well under LVG until he breaks in September.

Anyone want to offer any advice on my TFF team? In a mini league for money.

    Cesar
    Marcelo Lahm Duarte
    Oscar Muller Rodriguez Valbuena
    Neymar Benzema Messi

Classic type scoring ( CSs, goals - including pen shoot outs, and assists)

I have 10 transfers left to use whenever I want (including between games on the same day)

Thinking of sticking for the first two Quarter Finals (I have tried to get my team set up for them)
Then bringing in Vertonghen, Hazard and Di Maria for the Arg / Belg game
Then bringing in Blind, Robben and RVP for the Ned / CR game

Would leave me 4 transfers for the semis onwards.

    Thanks

Looks good, that allows you to fine tweak your team for the remainder, as whoever gets through to the Semi-finals will play twice anyway(with the 3rd-place play-off).

Thanks. Yeah, didn't think it was worth saving too many for the semis due to that reason. I will obviously be taking out player from team who are knocked out in the Quarters as I go along, e.g. France / Germany and Brazil / Columbia.

I would suggest saving some transfers for the 3/4 place play off assuming that match counts as its nearly always a goal fest with some players featuring who haven't before so its easy to pick up differential points.

Hes still the main man at United though as far as the board (and wages) are concerned and i cant see him not playing. Also lets not forget RVP was awful last year (probably down to Moyes granted) but hes also seems to be reverting to getting injured a lot, even in this World Cup hes been subbed early and an injury doubt going in.

Having said all this i will be going RVP its just something to bare in mind.

We need to make sure RVP has low ownership. The causal will log on and see 60% ownership and increase goods ownership even more

I think two names on all team sheets will be Sturridge & RVP sadly (from point of what you mean by low ownership, it wwon't happen

Anyone going fernandinho? looks set for a start and just 6 million.. should get plenty of RBs and is a decent(slightly exaggerated) attackin threat

It appears as stated above by other posters/comments that Arsenal are going for Sanchez, now whether or not he goes their, or ends up as part of the Suarez deal is another debate, what does apper legit is Arsenal want him

Anyone going without a dutch striker? they play last so basically you gotta trust em with points cause u cant take em out if they flop.. thinkin of going neymar instead(can swap him out for a defender/mid n switch formation if he flops)
