The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Ryan’s biggest concern is his cheap defenders. Any ideas for improvement there? Is he right to spend so much on Ivanovic or to trust in Stevan Jovetic replicating his preseason form?

I was speaking to Mark earlier in the week about Ivanovic...I'm not convinced he's going to offer .5 more than Cahill or Terry. But I can't deny his ability to bring out some great hauls. He becomes something of a differential so I say you are right to keep him. I can't fault the rest - although keep a watching brief on Jovetic and his game time later this month.

  Don't think Ivan is worth the extra 0.5 in my opinion. Cahil seems to best bet initally though I think you'll be able to save a further 0.5 by going to Luis once he gets settled in the team.
  
  Personally I don't feel I can stretch to a CHE defender currently as don't want to compromise in midfield so have Debuchy instead.

  I agree. I cannot see that Ivanovic will the first defensive name of the teamsheet.
  
  Reading Chelsea forums and I still see Terry as number 1 first pick defender when fit.
  
  I actually feel Luis will start on the bench. Jose will keep Azpi at the back Ivan RB, but as soon as he sees a chance to use Luis i believe Luis will become a mainstay and the others will change.

  Yeah the plan is to swap him for Baines in GW8. I'm confident Ivan can give me a good run for the first 7GW's, he has a tendency to pick up some early season goals as well so hoping for the best really.

  I admire your valour in selecting Kolorov, but would recommend a safer pick alongside the likes of Wilson and Wisdom...or you could be left pretty depleted at the back some weeks. Likewise I'd want a back-up playing keeper but not everyone will agree.
  
  Midfield looks very solid though, as does the frontline. A few minor repairs and you're good to go. 🙂

      No problem. Hmm it's tricky...6m to spend. I'd say Vert if he wasn't a slight doubt...or Luis but obviously there's rotation worries there as well.

  Actually I like the defence a loT!! so well done!! Except for the Kolarov-sized doubt it's good to go. I'd suggest Caulker and upgrade Jelavic or Noble. Jelavic looks weak to me. He is the one player who looks like he might let this team of urs down. So go with ur gut and either do the change or keep him. Good job!!

  Not sure re Jelavic. I dont even know his price but i am sure there are better options.
  
  Kolarov is high risk high reward im sure you're aware of that.
  
  Liverpool backline may need to settle.
  
  One key point I would always say is do not overlook your own gut. Its all up in the air at the moment.

  Yeah I'm having trouble with my budget defenders. Not an easy one to resolve though.
  The attack is a bit punty perhaps but at least its players that are in form and looking good to get off to a strong start. hopefully the likes of Lamela and Jovetic can become nice differentials.

  Rosenoir is a bit risky given he's probably 4th in the pecking order in a 3 man defence, I'd go for Chester if you want a Hull defender.
  
  Cameron is also unlikely to play; Wilson is a possible straight swap but again isn't nailed.

I've made some slight tweaks to my team over the past few days and here is what I've landed on:

Foster (Krul)

Ferdinand Debuchy Jones (Colloccini Wisdom)
Hazard Mata Ramsey Lamela (Albrighton)
Rooney Costa Bojan

Feedback would be appreciated. Really like my midfield but unsure if I would be better served downgrading Lamela to Siggy/Hendo and using the spare 2, to improve defence?

  Don't like United's defence this year. It has been over-estimated on here. LvG isn't that good that he can completely change a B grade defence without signing anyone.

Chelsea has got some critical fixtures coming up, with difficult matches every alternate week. So, the price of Chelsea defenders will fall. I will invest after Week 11.

All killer, no filler Ryan ( except for the defence, which is still pretty good ). I've been trying to do something similar with my team - not having a Marney or Albrighton type but two cheaper mids and third striker who rotate vaguely and complement each others' fixtures. It's not going very well....
I have Cahill over Ivan at the mo but that might change. Ivan was brilliant for me short term last year but there's no room for sentimentality in this game! Good luck.

  Maverick alert 🙂 I'm setting up with 5 at the back GW1 too, so I approve of this.
  
  Coutinho worries me, personally. I'd be up for this sort of set-up if you had one of Mata or Ramsey in midfield...as it is it looks too light-weight. All for going big in defence but I'd be more inclined to make savings up front.

Chester - Hull look reliable, Bruce loves Chester
Clyne - Southampton fixtures and return of Wanyama
Bertrand - Same as Clyne, double the reward/risk
4.0 defender - whoever is most nailed on.

Lamela - Potential + fixtures to surpass Eriksen and all 8.0 mids, selfish attacker with a full pre-season, a point to prove and fixtures to do it in.
Cesc - Main creative spark at Chelsea while Oscar is out, should assist a few Hazard/Costa goals and maybe score one or two himself!
Ramsey - In my opinion, he's essential and worth £10m
Cabella - Risk, but looked great in France playing for a crap side in Montpellier, he's only 7.5 so could pick up investment and price rises, good fixtures after GW1
Tadic - LOOK AT THOSE FIXTURES 😀 plus he's on free kicks and penalties, the best player in the eredivisie for only 7.5.

Costa - Chelsea actually have a good striker, says it all really.
Rooney - Obvious choice with fixtures, form and pedigree.
Naismith - Basically the equivalent of my Albrighton, he won't play normally, but he played 30 games for Everton last year so he's a decent back up! Could do well GW1 at Leicester which would mean potential price rise 😎

      I really like this. BUT. It's risky. And you know it's risky. The riskiest part of it isn't the absurd selection of FOUR players who've essentially never played in the league before (I've counted Lamela along with the other three). But that your bench has nothing on it to cover for them in an emergency.
      
      I would say you need to take a hit on Cabella and Tadic. Both are excellent punts, but choose one and upgrade Naismith to someone like Austin or Long who will actually get in the team every week.

        I really wanted Long but he'd be my 4th Saints player... I might do Tadic -> Siggy and then Naismith -> Long... But Tadic has set pieces whereas Siggy/Long don't and all 3 could flop... It's all risky when you go down into the cheaper price brackets 😉

  Yes that sounds good. Debuchy is better, as Monreal is competition for Gibbs, whereas Chambers is the only competition for Debuchy

  Defence is pretty weak, but I'm confident Manquillo and Luis will play, becoming the cheapest regular in both defences, hopefully increasing in price as other buy them.

  this is very solid, like the punt on fletcher and you have good strength al over the pitch. I personally wouldn't touch Lovren (or any pool defender) but that's personal preference really. Midfield is ace.
