Scout Notes – Gameweek 1 – Monday

Cesc Fabregas grabs a pair of assists as Chelsea overcome Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. Diego Costa nets on his league debut, while Branislav Ivanovic and Andre Schurrle are also amongst the goals as the Blues get off to an impressive start.

Chelsea New Boys Dazzle in Burnley Destruction
Positioned in the Blues double-pivot alongside Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas showed that, despite a deep-lying role, he looks poised to play a major part in our Fantasy seasons. The Spaniard pulled the strings for Jose Mourinho’s side in an outstanding first-half display that harvested a pair of assists and the maximum bonus points as he overshadowed the pricier Eden Hazard in the Chelsea midfield.

Up front, Diego Costa continued the momentum that saw him score four times over the summer friendlies. Drafted in by 37% of FPL managers prior to the weekend, the former Atletico Madrid man was second only to Wayne Rooney in last week’s Captain Poll and his predatory instincts will surely persuade more to invest as Mourinho’s men welcome Leicester, Swansea and Villa to the Bridge in the next five.

Schurrle Stakes a Claim
The German’s excellent strike also brings him onto radars as a potential mid-price option. Coming in at just 7.5, Schurrle scored eight times in just over 1400 minutes last season, with an average of 176.4 minutes per goal quicker than any Chelsea player – currently sitting in just 6% of FPL sides, he looks a real prospect if he can retain the role on the right of the attacking midfield three.

Luis and Cech Warm the Blues Bench
Mourinho started last season’s back-four for the Burnley clash as new signing Filipe Luis was named amongst the substitutes, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic fielded as full-backs. Clearly, though, the new boy won’t be expected to sit on the bench every week and it may not be for a number of matches before we get a clear idea of Mourinho’s intentions – there seems little conclusions can be made on last night’s team sheet. Thibaut Courtois got the nod ahead of Petr Cech for the number one jersey, though before the match, the Blues boss added further uncertainty to the situation by stating:

“Thibaut is my number one tonight against Burnley. I don’t make decisions for the season; I make decisions for a match.”

Arfield’s Budget Appeal
The Clarets man was one of only three budget midfielders to get amongst the goals this week, along with Ki Sung-Yeung and Lee Cattermole. Having netted eight times in last year’s Championship, Arfield carries the main scoring threat in the centre of the park in Sean Dyche’s side and, after proving his capabilities against a side that chalked up 18 clean sheets last season, could come into contention as a cheap fifth midfield option.

Despite having Costa in FPL the first thing after his goal I thought was 'CRAP!! Forgot to transfer Sturridge (C) to Costa (C) in Sky game'

Could have done with the extra 12 points -__-

Curious as to who you think would play LB then?

As you seem to think Taylor won't either.. http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/7976973

Aguero is really the cat among the pigeons for this next period isn't he. Tiny ownership, explosive potential, difficult to get into your frontline even with Rooney/Costa/Sturridge (and which do you drop) and liable to pick up a niggle next week.

Yes it's possible (but obviously requires a second transfer even for Sturridge) but I'm slightly loathe to lose either of those at the moment and you could easily end up doing it on the Wednesday and then swapping back on the Friday.

Don't get me wrong, Aguero's hat trick last season basically made my entire season off the back of it so I'm keen to get him in.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how that table pans out after a couple of games. The fewer shots you concede the better, definitely. But obviously with a team like Utd, they were in control the whole game and made a few catastrophic errors. Not every team will be as clinical as Swansea were.

Yeah definitely, going to have monitor them. But if you think about who they were playing, they weren't really set up to try and attack a lot.

As commented above, a few kneejerks a season may be a measured risk. And I've missed far too many early bandwagons in my time. Plus, I'm bored today and fancy an early transfer. And I want rid of Naughton. So...

Sorry for repost (and thanks Hutton for reply at end of previous page)

Have had a good start but feel I need to get rid of Young...

    Krul

    Cahill/ Chester/ Kelly

    Hazard/ Ramsey/ Sterling/ Young

    Rooney/ Costa/ Jovetic

I can't see any long-term options at £5.5 or below so tempted to either:

    a) Young to JWP - looked good against Liverpool and a decent run of fixtures. Also gives me £0.5 to deal with Jovetic the week after

    b) Hazard & Young > Fab & Sig (-4) My midfield would then be sorted for the long term but hesitant to get rid of Hazard after one week, especially with Leicester next week. Would also mean I would be £0.1 short of upgrading Jovetic to Giroud/Bony

    c) Play Young and assess again next week

I think I took consecutive -12 at one point - lol

they were all knee jerks 😀

I remember a bizarre sequence where I got jrod after he scored big, then he got a 2 pointer for me, so I sold him, then he got big points the next round, so I got him in and then he blanked for the next few weeks while I persisted...lol

I took a -24 or 28 in my first season playing. Lesson well and truly learnt! Still clawed my way back near the end of the season. The most ive done is -8 since that.

Also can't quite agree with this panic mode. Surely after ONE game one should remain calm and not start transferring out potentially good players. Let's see how things look after GW 2 or 3. At the moment I would only make essential trsf, I.e. Snoddy to Siggy which was of course an easy one for me

Easier said than done. I got 47 but my team looks ok so won't be making any transfers this GW. Probably not a wise decision but like you said, it's GW1.

Yup i managed 50. Only trading mata to fabregas as it's a 0.2 swing.
        Begovic (Mannone)
        Terry, Bruce, Jones (Chambers, Bartley)
        Fabregas, Silva, Tadic, Sigurdsson, Eriksen

I already have Bruce in my team, would it be stupid if I did Chambers > Chester? or should I do Chambers > Taylor? I'm just thinking Bruce might not play next week but if he does then I'll double up on Hull which is risky

I'm wondering what to do with Chambers too. I think doubling up on Hull in defence is a bad decision though, so I'd do Chambers > Taylor. Or... have you considered Clyne?

Fab is much more proven. That said, I may go for Hazard, as I think he looked dangerous and my priority is avoiding Mata's fall more than Fab's rise (as if Mata falls I'm priced out of Hazard long term).
