Spot the Differential – Gameweek 3

As always, Saturday morning serves up a trio of overlooked contenders for Fantasy managers to mull over as the deadline draws nearer. This week, we opt for a defender, a midfielder and a forward who all go in to weekend home encounters in fine form.

Daryl Janmaat

The Dutchman has hit the ground running at Newcastle with a series of encouraging displays which suggest he’s a natural replacement for Mathieu Debuchy in the right-back berth. Janmaat arrived with an attacking reputation after serving up two goals and five assists for Feyenoord last season, and whilst he’s failed to earn the returns, he has already signalled his intent with three attempts on goal over the opening two Gameweeks.

Available for 5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Janmaat is pricier than his fellow Magpies defenders and has resultantly remained under the radar ahead of a very favourable run of matches. Having picked up a couple of bonus points from last week’s clean sheet at Villa, the Dutchman has home matches with Palace, Hull and Leicester, in addition to Stoke and Swansea in the next six Gameweeks to boost his climb up the defender rankings.

Nacer Chadli

Ahead of the new season, many assumed our Tottenham midfield affections would be limited to Christian Eriksen or Erik Lamela, with hopes high for the latter after the arrival of compatriot Mauricio Pochettino. In Spurs’ first home match of the season, though, the duo were overshadowed by Chadli in the 4-0 rout of QPR as the Belgian – in his first start under the new manager – bagged a brace and 15 FPL points against Harry Redknapp’s side.

In light of his devastating display, Chadli looks to have leapt to the top of the pecking order for the left flank role right now, with Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend likely to be resigned to bench-warming duties. After scoring just once last season, Chadli started the season with a lowly price tag of 6.0 but last weekend’s display underlines the potential value offered by the wide man compared to 8.0-priced Eriksen and Lamela. A home clash against Liverpool’s porous defence offers encouragement this Sunday, as do showdowns with Sunderland, West Brom and Southampton in the subsequent four Gameweeks.

Mauro Zarate

An unused sub for West Ham’s first match of the season, the Argentine was handed the chance to impress after Kevin Nolan sustained a shoulder injury last week. Fielded in “the hole” behind Carlton Cole, Zarate grabbed his chance with both hands by turning on the style and firing the opener in a 3-1 win at Palace.

Tasked with introducing a more attractive style of play at Upton Park this term, the early signs are encouraging for Sam Allardyce – the Hammers have registered more shots inside the box than any other side. With the 6.4-priced Zarate on board, there’s a chance they could start to deliver in the final third, and with Southampton, Hull, QPR and Burnley in the upcoming six, they have the fixtures to enable them to fulfil their attacking potential.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Reason of going into this GW with Costa & Dzeko both is not coz they are nailed on to start but it's lack of alternatives......

Ade next week for Dzeko but this week, it's Costa/Dzeko/Rooney for me

    Heads up for the Swans v WBA game ;

Today's referee PaulTierney takes charge of his first ever Premiership game.
He has a horrendous record as far as cards and penalties are concerned.
Last year he refereed in 55 games and handed out 138 yellow cards, sent 11 players off and awarded 17 penalties.
Already this year in the 5 games he has taken charge of he has issued 18 yellow cards, sent 2 players off and awarded 2 penalties.
Obviously a ref who wants to be noticed.Let's hope he doesn't spoil today's game.

    Using WC this week.

    Krul - mannone

    Rose - Debuchy - Kolarov - clyne - Vlaar

    Di maria (!) - Lemela - Ward-prowse- Sterling - Ramsey

    Rooney - Naismith - Jovetic

    Bank: 0.7

    Thoughts?

Looks a bit risky. Rose/Kolarov/Naismith in question, I like Krul & Elliot as a goalkeeper combo, saves some money, you don't have to worry about rotation which can be tough to predict

    3. andyinasia
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

Given its your WC you don't want players in danger of rotation. Rose. Kolorov, JWP, and poss Naismith and Jovetic could be risks. Vlaar has horrendous fixtures from next week.

      Hi D1sable,

What to do with this team? I suppose the obvious move would be Costa out but have 0 ITB and made no transfers yet

      Begovic

      Hutton PVA Debuchy

      Rodwell Fletcher Yaya Fabregas

      Rooney Costa Sturridge

Considering Costa to Aguero and Yaya to Ramsey tomorrow and make him captain- would this be possible? STILL not 100% clear on how to get 2/3 captains safely

      2. d1sable
        • Has Moderation Rights
        9 years, 8 months ago

Looks a good team bar maybe Fletcher (Darren?) and a lack of Ramsey like you say. I like your planned moves below so rectify that.

Whos your current captain and have you changed it since 00:01 this morning?

        1. Ger
          • 14 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

Thanks! Yeah it's Darren Fletcher. Not sure if his place is under threat now.

Current captain was Costa ( I haven't changed since last week!) So I'm thinking change captain to Yaya and then swap to Ramsey-

Also not sure what to do about Hutton after this GW?

          1. d1sable
            • Has Moderation Rights
            9 years, 8 months ago

Yep you could change captain to Yaya then transfer him out for Ramsey giving you 2 captains,

I would hold Hutton tbh, hes an enabler, he wont get you many points over the coming weeks like you say but a transfer to another similarly priced option won't either. Sky doesn't really allow you to play the fixtures with your defenders unless you want to burn through transfers.

Should I sell chambers for a 4.5m def for a hit or play Bruce/Kelly? Costa also a doubt so might have to play both

    Torn between Adebayor or Jovetic

How likely is a Dzeko Ageuro start today? + fixtures for Jov are tough.

Ade is nailed to start & has easier fixtures.

So probably Both Costa and jovetic Will get minutes but jove is more likely To start?

So Costa -> jovetic is obvious thing to do. I have 2 ft, So i Will Bank the Other..

I think you have to bench Naismith. I am playing Fletcher and Chadli over Costa but would say nay to Naismith.
