Scout Scribbles – Kompany Overcomes Calf Complaint

Vincent Kompany recovers from a calf problem to play the full 90 minutes for Belgium. Edin Dzeko and Loic Remy are amongst the goals for Bosnia and France, Marcos Rojo is in line for his United debut after finally receiving a work permit, while reports suggest Siem de Jong could be set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a groin injury in training for Newcastle.

KOMPANY RECOVERY AIDS BELGIUM

City skipper Vincent Kompany recovered from a calf problem to play the full 90 minutes for Belgium last night in their straightforward 2-0 victory over Australia.

The Scout Says: Kompany’s owners will have rested a little easier last night after reports earlier in the week suggested the centre-back could be a doubt for his side’s showdown with Arsenal in eight days’ time. With new boy Eliaquim Mangala still struggling to reach full fitness, the Blues chances of shutting out the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey will surely depend on a solid showing from their captain in the heart of defence. Would-be suitors of the 6.5-valued Belgian should be wary though, as the match against Arsenal is followed by the visit of current table-toppers Chelsea to the Etihad in Gameweek 5. Beyond that, however, City face Hull, Aston Villa and West Ham in their next four, and clean sheets look on the menu for Kompany and co.

DZEKO ON TARGET IN BOSNIA WIN

Elsewhere for City, Edin Dzeko notched the 37th goal of his international career as Bosnia ran out 3-0 winners against Liechtenstein.

The Scout Says: With Sergio Aguero now fully fit for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, Dzeko is set to go head-to-head with Stevan Jovetic for the starting spot alongside the talismanic Argentine in the Blues’ attack. It was a contest that the 8.5-priced Dzeko lost out on last time out, only taking to the field for 28 minutes as a second-half substitute, and the Bosnian has subsequently been sold on by over 42,000 managers so far this week. However, City’s dismal display in their 1-0 loss to Stoke last weekend suggests Pellegrini will be tempted to make alterations for his side’s trip to Arsenal in Gameweek 4, and Dzeko and his remaining owners will be hopeful that the forward can return to the starting line-up and build on the momentum from last night’s goal-scoring display.

REMY FIRES FRANCE TO VICTORY

Chelsea’s latest recruit Loic Remy emerged from the substitutes bench for France last night to strike his side’s only goal in a 1-0 friendly win over Spain, whose starting line-up included Remy’s new teammates Cesc Fabregas, Cesar Azpilicueta and Diego Costa.

The Scout Says: Unfortunately for Remy’s 4.5% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, the striker looks another name now added to the list of previously popular Fantasy options whose potential has been almost entirely eradicated after summer moves (think Rickie Lambert and Bacary Sagna). With Costa’s recent injury scare now long forgotten, the in-form Spaniard’s spot in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI looks almost untouchable, hence the chances of Remy getting anywhere near last season’s tally of 14 goals this time round appear minimal at best.

ROJO CLEARED FOR UNITED BOW

The controversy surrounding the work permit of Manchester United’s summer signing Marcus Rojo has finally been resolved, and the former Sporting Lisbon defender is now available to make his debut for the Old Trafford outfit when they face QPR in Gameweek 4.

The Scout Says: It’s not only at the attacking end of the pitch that Louis Van Gaal now has some personnel decisions to make. Rojo’s availability could see the 6.0-priced defender come straight into United’s starting line-up as a centre-back in two Sunday’s time, with youngster Tyler Blackett looking most likely to drop to the bench. On the other hand, Van Gaal might instead choose to utilise Rojo as a left wing back – anyone who followed this summer’s World Cup will have noticed the Argentinian’s effectiveness in driving up the flank, and his new manager may opt to tap into that potential. Either way, with Daley Blind’s potential seriously curtailed by his classification in FPL as a midfielder, and Luke Shaw still sidelined with a hamstring injury, Rojo may now emerge as United’s key defensive asset in the coming weeks as his side’s kind run of fixtures continues (QPR, lei, WHM, EVE, wba).

GROIN SCARE FOR DE JONG

Reports suggest that Newcastle’s summer signing Siem de Jong has suffered a groin tear in training and could face up to four months out of action. The Dutchman has only just made his comeback from a calf problem, but may now return to the injury list alongside teammate Jack Colback, who withdrew from England’s international squad with a calf knock at the start of the week.

The Scout Says: Expectations were high for De Jong following his acquisition from Ajax, but the midfielder is now beginning to adopt the unwelcome label of ‘injury prone’ (bear in mind he was injured five times for Ajax last season alone). Having only made one start so far this term after picking up a calf problem in pre-season, the 7.0-priced man’s campaign has really yet to get going, and if yesterday’s reports are correct, that could remain the case until Christmas time. Moussa Sissoko offers an option to replace de Jong in the ‘hole’, but with Colback also a doubt for the Magpies’ Gameweek 4 visit of Southampton, Sissoko may well continue in a midfield role, allowing Remy Cabella the chance to shift in behind the lone striker. This scenario could also see Pardew hand Rolando Aarons his first league start on the wing – the young midfielder has impressed in both of his substitute appearances this season, picking up a goal and assist against Crystal Palace last Saturday, and should the de Jong rumours be true, Aarons, at just 5.0, could prove a quality budget option for the next few months.

I'm playing 3-5-2 so would mean too much moving around and trying to avoid hits. If you can get him in easy then def could work out.

Would United fan's be happy if we were to do Rafael + Cleverley to Everton for Coleman?

Of course it would never happen. But if I was able to have magic powers to toy with our transfers, this is what I'd do.

Rafael is decent but is really inconsistent defensively & is quite injury prone. Cleverley is Cleverley.

We lose 1 OK RB & 1 Cleverley for a really solid RB. Makes sense no?

Martinez is supposedly a fan of Cleverley and was interested in taking him on a permanent deal on deadline day.

Plucky little Everton, trying to punch above their weight. That's what 25 years of bad ownership has done to the club that, before the arrival of Fergie, were the second most successful in the country. Now we have a manager that tries to win games rather than not get beat I expect us to improve and challenge for that 4th spot in time.

Just to add a bit of meat on the "lightweight" word I used for the Spurs midfield...or at least to of them. They do ok in terms of tackles they win...decent enough. The problem is their lack of willingness to contest a ball....Spurs midfield three of Chadli Lamela Eriksen have contested 16 tackles between them all season....Jedinak on his own has managed 22 as top mid for tackles. Admittedly slightly different roles but the point remains.

Yeah they do, but again not exactly pilling any trees up.....but as a whole team they are fairly near the bottom for tackles contested. I'm not saying they are bad in the tackle, they just don't like to. My point was that those three higher mids are a bit lightweight together IMO...

I suppose but its pretty comparable to many teams. Say arsenal, which could well be: Sanchez, cazorla, ozil, walcott. The four most attacking players are often quite lightweight, I would have thought.

Liverpool's three could be lallana, sterling, markovic this year. Or balotelli wherever he fits in.

I'd have to go through every player one at a time, can't be bothered...Team wise though Palace are on 111 tackles contested...Spurs are on 76

      2. Dr Dream
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 9 months ago

Or put another way...Palace contest 12 more tackles a game than Spurs...Sounds a lot to me.

        1. getfunky
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 9 months ago

surely you have to factor in possession tho? i'd imagine palace make more tackles cos they spend more time defending, spurs spend more time with the ball attacking therefore spend less time defending.

          1. Dr Dream
            • 11 Years
            9 years, 9 months ago

Chadli and Lamela between them have contested 7 tackles so far this season.....7....The reality of being too light in that dept was plain to see at the last match. They may have got away with it against QPR, and they looked brilliant doing it, but it's not enough against the better clubs.

            1. getfunky

I'm not disputing that, i just think you have to take into account that spurs are a possesion team & spend less time defending as a result, against pool they had 60% possesion, against qpr 65%, how are they supposed to make tackles when theyve always got the ball?

Being nailed is less important to me in UFPL, the chance of a big score is. Despite Schneiderlin's recent efforts I don't think he is going to put in many 6+ point weeks whereas McGeady might

I managed to stretch to Mirallas in my squad because my defence is cheap

yeah i see your point. it is a completely different game with more complex tactics, but it does afford the opportunity to have punts/risks in your team with safety options to fall back on.

think I might just stick with Silva & McGeady as I originally had...

the reason I was considering a change is I have 2 free transfers...

Mirallas & Chadli is temping too....

      In order of preference

      Wel/Agu

Thanks! I meant I could afford one of Aguero/Sturridge/Falcao alongside Welbz but I think you're right that those two are the best option.

Want to take a -4 but I need to deal with Chambers threatening to stink up my defence too - not that I'd start him against Citeh anyway.

        1. HamezMace
          • 9 Years
          9 years, 9 months ago

          Sorry misread that..

          In that case I would say;

          Sturridge
          Aguero
          Falcao

purely because Liverpool have the best fixtures, and Sturridge won't be rotated, Aguero might be, and so might Falcao.

Chambers needs to be addressed, depends on the rest of your defense how urgently that needs to be done.

My team is wrecked and I don't know what to do. Last week I did Hazard, Fab & Costa out for Ramsey, De Jong & RVP (-4).

    Here's the mess:

    Krul

    Clyne, Duff, Chester

    Ramsey, Mata, Eriksen, De Jong(!)

    RVP (!), Rooney, Bojan (!)

    Bench: Foster, Marney, Debuchy, PVA

1 FT. What in the world should I do!?

Not willing to get rid of Bojan until seeing if and how he plays against Leicester. De Jong apparently now out for 4 bloody months. RVP/Mata to be dropped by United? In defence I'm playing the fixtures so I'm not going to start Debuchy.

I forgot to mention I have £1.6m ITB.

I thought that after my great plan of tripling up on Chelsea attack in first 2 weeks, doing triple United vs promoted teams would work a treat. Ramsey was a must buy imo vs Leicester. Also felt Newcastle would explode against CPL and that either De Jong or Cabella would be the star of the show :/

De Jong to Tadic sound good?

I'm only £0.1 M off doing De Jong to Sterling, so painful! 🙁

    @ There is always one,

Yes Van Gal is there to win games ( ain't doin so well on that front ) however you are missing the point. If a manager creates a system which doesn't suit you players then you are selecting on false form. I would add to that based on form then I would drop Rooney and a number of others first, however that ain't going to happen. He is making decisions on players based on his failed system.

failed system? the season has just started. it hasn't had time to take shape yet. the players are still learning it.

Like QPR who have abandoned it, and achieved their first victory after doing so, sorting out systems when a season has started ain't wise and the system it self requires high quality specialist wing backs, not the likes of Ashley Young.

Point is that they may switch to 433 now, LVG frequently says he picks a team based on who he has available, he now has players that can play 433 and no better time to change it up than over the int. break and testing it against QPR. Just my thinking on it. May not be a case that he is planning on persisting with the system.

I wouldn't use the word failed just yet. But if the pattern continues through these upcoming 'easy' fixtures I wonder if he would even consider a change in tactics or is he relentless in his goal to mould Utd into a 3-5-2?

It reminds me of what Trap was doing when he managed Ireland, he had one system and no matter how much it failed he never changed it. Not that you can compare Ireland to Utd, you would hope that with the level of talent at Utd they can learn and adapt to the new system, I think it is really sad to see a manager be so stubborn.

Any changes needed to the team? already used my transfers but looking at next GW and possibly taking a negative hit if required. Any feedback appreciated.

    Krul - Elliot

    Lovren - Clyne - Naylor - Wisdom - Duff

Di Maria - Ramsey - Sterling - Lamela - Siggy

    Falcao - Costa - Naismith

    I currently play 3-5-2.

Can any Mn City fans help me? Is Mangala expected to be first choice with Kompany once he's up to full fitness? ie. Will he shortly be nailed on or not?

With his quality I expect him to relegate Demichelis to the bench, but we can´t read Peles mind... yet.

Will Rooney drop before the start of the next GW?

If he does, I suspect it won't be until next Friday.

Finally pulled the trigger on playing my WC. I screwed up majorly by taking out Diego Costa for Aguero last week and want to make amends.

    WC team:

    Krul

    Clyne / Wilson / Lovren

    Siggy / Fabregas / Ramsey / Sterling

Lukaku / Rooney / Diego Costa

Bench: Mannone / King / Naylor / Wisdom

    Thoughts?

      Lukaku or Rooney to Welbeck

I'm definitely not taking out Rooney and I have a good feeling about Lukaku.

Asked this yesterday, but will ask again as it's quiet. Is anyone on a wildcard trying to squeeze in sturridge, aguero, Costa. If so, how's it looking?

      Mannone Bego

Chester Chambers Colo Caulker Clyne. ( Just noticed the all 'C" Defence)

      Ramsey Sterling Rodwell Zaha JWP

      Aguero Sturridge Costa

But im considering Balotelli instead of Sturridge. Leaves me with another 1.5 id like to spend

Defence and midfield noticeably suffering from that front 3.
