Scout Scribbles – Sturridge Injury Fears Rise

Daniel Sturridge seems poised to miss out for Liverpool this weekend according to the Merseyside press. Emmanuel Adebayor is in the goals for Togo, Southampton’s new boy Sadio Mane strikes again for Senegal, Wilfried Bony faces a late return to training after international duties, whilst Geoff Cameron is sidelined after undergoing hernia surgery for Stoke.

STURRIDGE INJURY CONCERNS MOUNT

Reports suggest that Daniel Sturridge could be sidelined for two to three weeks with the thigh injury he sustained in training whilst on international duty with England last week.

The Scout Says: Whilst there is still no official word from Liverpool on the matter, the fact that over 114,000 managers have already chosen to offload Sturridge this Gameweek suggests that is a mere technicality for some. The proposed absence would see Sturridge miss Saturday evening’s clash with Aston Villa and next weekend’s trip to West Ham, and leave the striker in a race to be fit for the Merseyside derby at the end of the month. In contrast to the England man, team-mate Mario Balotelli has received plenty of investment leading up to this weekend’s deadline, and confirmation of Sturridge’s absence could spark a massive bandwagon and see that investment increase pointedly. Given a chance to play in his preferred role through the middle, Balotelli could find his feet at his new club quicker than expected, though Brendan Rogers does have another alternative to consider – Rickie Lambert, yet to start for Liverpool since his summer move, is a ready-made replacement for Sturridge as a centre forward, and, if given the opportunity, the 7.2 priced target man could prove a canny short-term acquisition for Fantasy managers whilst his team-mate recovers.

ADEBAYOR’S GOAL NOT ENOUGH FOR TOGO

Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor scored his side’s second goal in their 3-2 loss to Ghana yesterday evening in their second African Cup of Nations qualifying match. The striker pulled his side level in the 77th minute with a powerful header, only for Everton’s Christian Atsu to score a late winner for Ghana and leave Togo winless in their two games thus far.

The Scout Says: Last night’s result shines favourably on Adebayor’s Fantasy potential in more ways than one. Not only will his goal give him some momentum heading into this weekend’s trip to Sunderland with Spurs, but the fact that Togo have now lost both their opening games means there is already a good chance they won’t qualify for ACoN, which, subsequently, would mean that Adebayor won’t go AWOL in January. With home encounters against West Brom and Southampton to come in Spurs’ next four, and the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Romelu Lukaku currently injury doubts going into this Gameweek, the 8.6-priced Adebayor is one of the few forwards in his price range to have any real allure right now, and the Tottenham man will be keen to spark a return to form for his side this weekend after their heavy defeat at the hands of Liverpool last time out.

MANE ON THE GOAL TRAIL

Southampton’s deadline day signing Sadio Mane scored his second goal of the international break as his Senegal side ran out 2-0 victors over Botswana in their ACoN qualifier.

The Scout Says: Mane is now firmly on our radars as the Saints face a quintet of kind fixtures, including four at home, in their next six (NEW, swa, QPR, tot, SUN, STO) that offer the midfielder a great chance of building on his current form. At 7.0, the winger is more budget friendly than fellow new boys Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle (both 7.5) and his direct style on the left wing could bring a new dynamic to Ronald Koeman’s side in the coming weeks as they look to add another win to their tally after Gameweek 3’s 3-1 triumph against West Ham. One to monitor for sure.

Bony Set for Late Return to Training

Wilfried Bony is not expected to return to training with Swansea until Friday due to his commitments with Ivory Coast, meaning that Bafetimbi Gomis may be handed his first league start for Swans in this Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.

The Scout Says: Can Garry Monk really do without his first choice striker for the visit of Stamford Bridge? Whilst the Swans boss has previously underlined his faith in Gomis’ ability, and his intention to give the Frenchman plenty of football this season, an away match against Jose Mourinho’s men will hardly have been what Monk would have had in mind. That said, Bony has hardly lived up to his 8.5 price tag so far this season, with not one goal or assist to his name after three appearances, and were Gomis to grab his chance on Saturday afternoon, he may well edge ahead of his teammate in Monk’s thoughts for Gameweek 5’s clash with Southampton.

SURGEY REQUIRED FOR CAMERON

USA international Geoff Cameron finally underwent a hernia operation yesterday after being plagued by the problem since the back end of last season and is now due to miss at least another fortnight of action for Stoke. The Potters did receive some positive news, however, after it was confirmed that Stephen Ireland and Oussama Assaidi are stepping up their recoveries from injury – assistant manager Mark Bowen clarified why Stoke have been cautious with Assaidi since his deadline day loan move from Liverpool:

“He’s been training all week and looked good. We are taking things easy with him because he hasn’t had a pre-season. But everything we’ve thrown at him in training he has come through.”

The Scout Says: With Cameron now definitely sidelined for the near future, Phil Bardsley looks nailed on at right-back for the Potters. The former Sunderland man demonstrated his potential for attacking returns with an assist in Gameweek 2 and could prove a decent differential in light of Stoke’s superb upcoming fixtures (LEI, qpr, NEW, sun, SWA). The imminent return of Ireland and Assaidi, meanwhile, looks set to up the competition for places further up the field, though Mark Hughes seems likely to stick with the starting XI that walked away from the Etihad with a shock victory last time out for this Saturday’s encounter with Leicester, meaning that the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Bojan Krkic may have to make do with bench-warming duties once again.

Been messing around with my team for the past week (used my WC after an average start).
    Currently have:
    Krul (Elliot)
Clyne Ivanovic Moreno (N Taylor Duff)
    Sterling Ramsey Sigurdsson Fabregas (Boyd)
    Balo Naismith Costa
    1.8M ITB

    Was thinking of doing:
    Wisdom for N Taylor
    Quinn for Ramsey
    Aguero for Naismith
    0.1M ITB

Would I be sacrificing too much to get Kun in my team?
Any thoughts would be appreciated 🙂

If u really want Aguero, I would upgrade one of the other 2, Naismith is great Value. but personally, I'm not messing with my team to fit him in. I think the pounds can be spent better elsewhere

What people think of Begovic-Krul rotation ? is it wise to have a second keeper at this time ?

A rotation with Krul I find is very hard. One of the newcastle fans on here said they are more likely to keep a cleansheet away than at home.

Hey guys, please RMT for my WC team.

    Begovic - McCarthy
    Moreno - Clyne - Moore (b3) - Colocinni - PVA (b2)
    Sterling (c) - Ramsey - Siggy (b1) - Fabregas - Zaha
    Costa - Pelle - Balotelli

What does Welbeck need to do in order to be the striker Arsenal has missed for so long?

    1) Better finishing
    2) Better decision making
    3) Be better at holding the ball
    4) Better linkup play
    5) Just game time
    6) Better heading ability

From what I saw, maybe decision making is weak point. Learning when to shoot, when to pass, when to run to beat the offside trap, when to be in the box etc. In his defense, he hasn't played much as a no 9 so maybe game time is all he needs.

    1. Snevitz

      7) Score goals

    2. Bolivian Seaman

      2)

Any striker that has done well like RVP has learnt how to play our crappy 4-2-3-1 system where there are normally 1 or 2 in the box. He has to know how to make space for himself and don't get marked too heavily.

He will be good, because he can do the link up play, he can hold the ball up and has pace. He's almost perfect. Maybe I have rose tinted glasses.

I think he has all the physical attributes to be a great no 9. Decision making won't come without game time, without experience. He should get that at Arsenal.

      Krul,

      Ramsey, Sterling, Siggy, Mata,
      Ronney Costa, Pelle

Subs: Myhill, Caulker, Bruce, A Young

With the 0.9 Was thinking one of the folowing
      1. Terry to Ivana (too much a sideways move?)
      2. Mata - Fabregas
      3. Ronney/Costa - Falcao
      4. Pelle - Naismith (free up some funds?)

    Who to sell for Sterling?

    Mata or Ramsey?

    Mata:
    - Still has 5 good fixtures.
    - Could be the time United click, boosted by new sightings.
    - United have been poor so far.
    - New additions means a start is no longer guaranteed.

    Ramsey:
    - Poor fixtures in the next 4.
    - Injury doubt.
    - Was poor against Leicester and Andorra.

    Is the answer obvious?

I don't know, I was going to dare to be different, but think I've been convinced otherwise...

Understand what your saying about Ramsey, I like him but, something keeps telling me to get rid, for some reason my gut keeps saying swap for gerrard, strong feelings Gerrards gonna start getting big points

Something is telling me to get rid too, but I don't know why!!

Those fixtures just don't look great, he could easily blank against Man City, Tottenham and Chelsea...

Just had a quick look at the Premier League last season...

            Goals against Man City? None...
            Goals against Tottenham? None...
Goals against Chelsea? You guessed it... None!

    Which one is better option?

    A) Balotelli & King

    or

    B) Welbeck & Zaha +3.0M to upgrade defence

    Wildcard team atm:

    Krulliot
    Clyne-Wilson-Lovren-Duff-Moore
    Tadic-Siggy-Fab-Sterling-King
    Aguero-Costa-Balotelli

Are u considering Rooney? Similar WC team, but I have Mirallas and Boyd instead of Tadic/King. King not nailed on btw.

Might get Falcao/Rooney/Rvp instead of Aguero in next 2 gws. Haven't decided yet.

Would go with A but Boyd instead of King. Cambiasso should be in that team sooner rather than later.

With option B I have decent cover for Costa if he doenst play and Cahill/Terry for Wilson but the problem is Welbeck.

With Bony potentially missing the next match, being out of form and against Chelsea away, is it worth taking him out for a hit?

    A) Bony -> Welbeck (-4)

    B) Bony -> Pelle (-4)

    C) leave

    Regarding Falcao:

I can see him starting on the bench this week and getting about 30 mins. I can not however see him benched after that.

Just my two cents. Many people saying that he'll be benched to accomodate Rooney and RVP. I don't see that happening.

My problem with that is if he gets a 20min cameo and scores those jumping the gun this GW will be ahead of the rest of us, if he doesn´t score it will be tough to know if he´ll be a starter next GW unless he puts out a great performance even without scoring.

Currently have Foster, Jones, Hazard, Ramsey and Jovetic.

Would need to take a hit to get rid of any of them.

Anybody have any info who's least likely to play or am i best off waiting a little longer?

Not Costa, MAYBE Ramsey simply because I rate Sterling higher for the next 4

Even if Costa is ruled out for this game, I'd still bench him, not transfer out. More than 3 weeks and I'd reconsider. Don't own Ramsey but that's cause I'm in a draft league. Otherwise I'd keep his as well.

Why are people surprised about OP being found not guilty of pre meditated murder? Wasn't that almost a certainty. Didn't think anyone thought there was a possibility he had pre planned to murder her that night, the most likely scenario people have spoken about is they argued on the night and he committed murder in a rage, so surprised people are now suggesting he had planned out all along, seems barmy suggestion to me.

Hey guys, any recommendations. 1 transfer and 0.9 in the bank.
Have some ideas but struggling to decide. Help appreciated!

      Krul,
      Terry, Chambers, Caulker
      Ramsey, Sterling, Siggy, Mata,
      Ronney Costa, Pelle

Subs: Myhill, Caulker, Bruce, A Young

With the 0.9 Was thinking one of the folowing
      1. Terry to Ivana (too much a sideways move?)
      2. Mata - Fabregas
      3. Ronney/Costa - Falcao
      4. Pelle - Naismith (free up some funds?)

But he also got found not guilty of "murder", so only culpable homicide is left, which seems crazy to me. Surely that was murder? (Although I agree, not premeditated)

So, are WCers getting Rooney back now he's dropped in price? Still looks a great shout for the coming games. A fit RVP may dent his appeal by removing pens, but with the presence of Falcao Van Persie himself looks a very shaky option. Rooney meanwhile should be ever-present, still playing up front and benefitting from the new signings around him.

    For a free, Jovetic to

    B) Welbeck (have Rambo)
    C) Adebayor (have Eriksen)
