PlayON Picks – Gameweek 4

After an international break packed with injury concerns for Fantasy managers, we edge towards Gameweek 4 by rolling out our Friday lunchtime regular once again. We scour the PlayON player price list ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline and, as usual, offer a couple of picks per position, with an essential weekend target and a budget alternative for your consideration.

This weekend PlayON have £2,000 in Guaranteed Pots on offer – £1,000 Guaranteed for the full gameweek, £500 Guaranteed for the Saturday daily game and £250 Guaranteed for each of the Sunday and Monday daily games.

Goalkeeper – Asmir Begovic
After an unlikely clean sheet at the Etihad, a home encounter against Leicester bodes well for his prospects of another shut-out. Available for just 7.6m, Begovic offers a cut-price route into a defence that conceded just 18 times in front of their own fans last term – the fourth most resilient home back-line of 2013/14. If you’re willing to entrust some of your budget to Louis van Gaal’s new look defence, then David de Gea comes in at 7.9m for a plum home encounter with QPR. While there may be question marks over United’s starters in defence, the Spaniard is guaranteed pitch time by comparison  having chalked up his first shut-out of the season last time around, he’ll be confident of another against an R’s side with just one goal to their name thus far.

Defender – Javier Manquillo
After stuttering in their first two fixtures, Liverpool impressive 3-0 win at Spurs in the last Gameweek suggests they could be worth the outlay at both ends of the pitch. The Reds will be hoping that home comforts allow them to continue the run, then, and with Glen Johnson injured and Jon Flanagan still finding his fitness after sustaining a knee injury, Manquillo looks set to retain a starting place against Aston Villa for the bargain price of 7.2m. League leaders Chelsea host Swansea on Saturday as Jose Mourinho’s side seek to maintain their 100% start to the season. Given their visitors have a similar record, though, snapping up a defender with plenty of attacking potential seems a sensible move, and with two goals and an assist thus far, Branislav Ivanovic, at 9.5m, cannot be overlooked for this one.

Midfielder – Wilfried Zaha
Climbing off the bench in the previous Gameweek, the on-loan midfielder wasted no time in making an impact. Zaha – who sets you back 8.9m  fired four attempts and netted a last-gasp equaliser as Palace snatched a draw at Newcastle, and with Marouane Chamakh ruled out, he looks poised for a start as Neil Warnock’s side play host to promoted Burnley. Elsewhere, Angel Di Maria looks a real bargain for United’s home clash against QPR. Priced at a mere 8.2m, the record signing welcomes the R’s in excellent form, having served up a goal and three assists in Argentina’s recent friendly win over Germany and looks in the mood to pick up the points in his first appearance at Old Trafford.

Forward – Mame Biram Diouf
There’s no doubt that Stoke’s summer signing took his time to settle in his new surrounds, but on the evidence of his showing last time out, is beginning to find his feet. Diouf’s superb solo effort against champions Man City hints at the form that that produced eight goals and four assists in 19 appearances for Bundesliga club Hamburg last term, and with a generous price tag of 9.8m in PlayON, is a strong cut-price contender at home to Leicester City. Following their convincing win at Tottenham, we turn our attention to the Liverpool attack. With a home match against Aston Villa up next, Mario Balotelli will be hoping to start his goal-scoring account for the Reds after coming close several times at White Hart Lane. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined due to a thigh injury, the 10.4m priced Italian should start up front and affords us a double-up option along with Raheem Sterling (10.5) in the Merseysiders’ midfield.

Head over to www.playon.co and get picking ahead of the 10.45am deadline tomorrow morning.

Need to get Sterling this week, but it will be for a hit.
    Who should I sell?

    a.) Hazard
    b.) Fabregas
    c.) Ramsey
d.) Keep all of the above and wait until next week.

Considered this of course but means Mirallas/Tadic instead of Rambo and a defence of 5.0/4.5/4.5/4.5/4.0 for me. Not the worst but a bit of a compromise.

Yeap defence was a shambles and wanted to make quite a few changes, usually do it early, latest was GW8 i think.

Not sure on the strikeforce at all, considering all of Kun, Falcao, Rooney, Balo, Ade and Welbz. Decisions decisions! Pretty much the 12/15 spots are done, it's the other 3 that are the problem.

According to me, the guy at the top of the list is an anomaly... He has no attacking potential whatsoever! Was lucky to notch one in the previous week

By the way, I wanted to discuss this with you Wakey... Your thoughts on the guy 2nd on the list? Has gone under the radar and has some decent fixtures to follow... Some incredible stats as well...

I think I might get him over Welbeck/Naismith this week for a free and switch to Welbeck later when the fixtures get better... He looks odd on to notch any time soon with those stats

      2. Dr Dream
        • 11 Years

Yep...a pick for sure..Here's where he appears on the threat table...http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/4386/

The key to it is those touches in the box...took me a long time to realise how important those are alongside the attempts...I came to the conclusion it's all about players "setting" themselves...as oppose to snatched shots...

Which is why I feel he is bound to get some goals with the fixtures he has... Touches in the box for him are very very good too... All signs look promising... Do I get him or get Welbeck though?

nah. I am going to slowly rearrange my squad in order to get three big guns up front. Want Aguero, Costa and Falcao. Will require plenty of shuffling, but will cash in on a useful 0.2 mil from Naismith. In the mean time one of those three is bound to get injured so I can reassess...

It's a nice looking team, but I agree about Hutton.
If you're planning to bring in Aguero why not do it now? I know Liverpool's fixtures are nice but Aguero can, and will, score against anybody. Probably more likely than Balo even this week. If anything I'd do Costa for Aguero - but I'm probably the only person on this site who would - I have a feeling Chelsea will struggle to score many these next 6 weeks.

In fact, I think I'd swap Fab too.

with this ramsey's Headache , i'm really thinking of getting rid because even if he is fit i dont see winger risking him with The CL mid-week
then after the fixtures clear up for them , i'll get Walcott then
i know a lot of people here wont appreciate the idea because of the ramsey love
but what do you think anaway

would you consider Rooney to be a safe or punt captain choice?

With the form he's in, it's certainly not safe. Can see the attraction though.

Pretty safe imo. Can't see him blanking, a big score (12+) looks unlikely though given Utd's form

Just my opinion but if you have an 11.5m asset that you won't give the armband at home to QPR then I think you shouldn't have him.
Anyone over 10 has to be an armband contender as a rough rule.

Thoughts on my wildcard team please people.

      Begovic (McCarthy)

      Moreno Clyne Naylor (Moore) (Duff)

      Fabregas Sterling Tadic Siggy (Boyd)

      Balotelli Costa Rooney

I'm worried that I have too much coverage in my first x1, is this a viable concern?

      2 Swansea/2 Southampton/ 3 Liverpool/ 2 Chelsea, is this too much?

"The Bosnian is yet to keep a clean sheet so far this season, conceding a single goal in all three matches so far" Wrong, Begovic kept clean sheet against Man City in GW3.

It was a great performance by Stoke. Can't be overlooking that.

Aguero(c) seems slightly differentialish this week

Jovetic is out injured and I don't think Pelle can play Aguero on his own up top....so Dzeko starts. But I think them offloading Negredo will come to bite them, strange decision.

I guess Pelle did that because he can push up Silva or Toure into the No. 10 position if necessary.

Aguero will play up top alone, Pelle did that on a few occasions last season... Dzeko has looked rusty

I see a few predicting that strategy. Makes me wat to take an extra hit for Dzeko , or WC. But with Aguero's fitness, Dzeko probably will come in for the last 20-30 mins?

Is it sound logic that Costa will either get 60 mins or not play at all? Or does Remy's presence now change that logic?

Tempted to (C) Costa but not really interested if he is only playing 20 mins from the bench.

I thought he would get a few mins last week and benched him - bad decision obvs

I think its very much sound logic - so Costa (c) Sterling (vc)

I think it would be more sensible if you wait till the presser to get a better idea... I feel Costa should be good to start though 🙂

I think if he's fit he starts. I don't think he'd come off the bench unless they are losing...

        So I'm thinking similar atm

Type of player that can dome off the bench an score, a la Aguero.

they have massive champions league game during the week, so for me he either starts or doesn't play at all. might be named on the bench and used if they're down

seeing that Baines has double the touches of Coleman in final third is tempting me toward him now

although Colemans touches are generally more positive

hey that would be an interesting stat - delving into the stats to see positive touches / passes versue negative.... ie forwards and backwards
