The Big Numbers – Gameweek 5

We delve into the Gameweek 5 data this evening in our first members article of the week. Wayne Rooney’s new role for United comes under analysis, as do Burnley and Leicester’s displays up front, whilst a couple of north London-based frontmen are also placed under the microscope after their contrasting weekend performances.

Different crowd so reposting for opinions:

    Is this -8 justified? : Ade,Lamela,Caulker -> Pelle,AdM,Duff

but this means that I'll have to keep Rooney this week and can't get in Aguero

Been slipping in my leagues quickly and can't afford to carry any dead weights so it's either -8 or WC

maybe WC then and get aguero in for rooney too. rooney looks to be staying in midfield

Can't seem to find budget for that one as of now. Maybe Ivanovic out in a couple of weeks and then Rooney-> Aguero

I think Van Gaal may need to re-think playing with 3 strikers and put one extra man in the midfield after the beating they took at Leicester. Playing with three strikers obviously hasn't paid off for United. Rooney and ADM are the only guaranteed starters in my opinion.

But that would mean keeping Lamela & not getting AdM (who is the Yaya of this year btw 😉 )

    Please help RMT

    Begovic (Krul)
    Cahill. Chambers. Ward (Chester. PVA)
    Sigurdsson. Ramsey. Hazard. Sterling (Marney)
    Rooney. Costa. Ulloa

    0.4 ITB. 1 FT

    1. Should I do Rooney to Pelle/Welbeck and spruce up my defence? Or is a Man U attacker essential?
    2. Use the 0.4 to do Ward to Bertrand?

Don't have a precise one just yet. Really depends on when he is ready to start games. I fear that won't be as early as GW8...?

We're solid at the back and have decent fixtures. Pelle will probably eventually become Welbeck.

Rooney - did you see the guy vs Leicester? Made poor runs, made dull passes, sat very deep and was frankly lucky to get an assist. His pass to Di Maria was not the right weight but AdM plucked out a fantastic finish to rectify the issue.

Yea you have right, but dont like to tripple teams if they are not big 5

Well we're 2nd in the league as it stands so I'd rather have triple us over triple United, based on current form. Of course we won't stay there but it's silly to write off our players based on our club's reputation etc.

But there are a lot of other striker options who could continue to match Rooney, while i don't see many Mids offering ADM levels of confidence.

ADM is great value and a no brainer, Rooney is premium and good, but there are plenty of other options to make him less of an easy pick.

I agree, though. Rooney is still a very good option

        Yes on the Welbeck move.

Not got a plan for the Baines move. I'm assessing that one. Everton look very leaky at the moment and part of Baines' appeal for me is the combination of attacking returns and CS likelihood.

Hey guys, hoping it's a bit quiet this morning and someone can give me some insight.

    My team is:

    Begovic, Krul
    Clyne, Caulker, Taylor, Chambers, Ward
    Mata, Hazard, Ramsey, Sigurdsson, Mutch
    Rooney, Costa, Bojan

I have 2 free transfers and .2 in the bank. I want to get rid of Bojan for Ulloa but I can't afford a direct swap. I'd need to get rid of Mata to make it work, leaving me with 8.4 to spend on a midfielder. Any suggestions?

Rooney will always pick up a few points but he won't be taking as many free kicks as he used to with ADM on the pitch, his stats are worrying for a player of his price.
I would be worried about having so little invested up top but Pelle & Ulloa look like amazing value for money and actually have the stats to back up their current points scoring.
The biggest problem if you went for both of them is how to transfer Aguero in if he starts scoring 3 a game.

Bench Krul, Shaw, Taylor & Schneiderlin imo

Thanks for reply. I understand others but why Schneiderlin? Btw I only put Krul in as I didn't want to double up with Shawcross and Begovic and thought Krul would cover me for both teams.

How essential is Aguero? I can understand Costa but when comparing the stats for Aguero and Pelle for example, Pelles movement, touches and shots in the box are better. Aguero has PL pedigree Pelle does not. Aguero has a brilliant midfield supporting him but Southhampton have the making of one. Will Aguero be the differential?

Well I guess one could argue that the games Aguero has played more than half an hour he has faced tougher defences than Pelle, with first a resilient Stoke team that shut out City and then Arsenal away and Chelsea at home (with City having 10 men). Also one could argue that Aguero still was a little out of form those earlier matches while recovering from that hamstring injury. I think both will be good options though and both are in my team atm.

Would also like to have both with Costa but just think that Wellbeck is great value.

      Agreed.

Bertrand or Clyne, plus maybe Pelle or Forster IMO.

Give them until after the Spurs game before piling in for a third

I see no problem with it.

I have Pelle-Tadic-Clyne, but will look to upgrade Tadic to Walcott after Tadic's good fixtures when Walcott is back. Going forwards Clyne-Pelle is much more balanced but short term 3 of them is fine due to the fixtures and southamptons form

Whats everyone's tactics regarding defence so far?

I've been looking at changing my defenders as I have not gotten many CS this season so far.
I took a look at the CS of the teams so far, teams with the most CS are as follows:

    Aston Villa: 3
    Burnely: 3
    Saints: 3
    Manchester: 2
    Tottenham: 2
    Swansea: 2
    Westbrom: 2

With saints having favourable fixtures up until GW 13 when they match up against City home they might be the safest bet of getting CS. They offer great value with Clyne (at 5.3) already accumulating 33 points so far topping the defenders board. And the former Chelsea defender Bertrand (5.1) at fourth place with 25 points. I would not recommend getting a Burnely defender, maybe as a rotational, since they have not impressed so far, Same with Manchester and Westbrom.

    Thoughts?

1 expensive, 1 middle, 3 cheap. My purchase of Duff and Hutton paid off well. Disagree about Burnley, they are a defensive minded team and will keep more CS especially at home. I will hang onto Duff.

Need some help guys. My team, particularly the defence is woeful, partly due to injuries but also as I haven't been able to get rid of certain players as other transfers were more of a priority.

So my current squad is as follows

    DDG (Begovic)
Lovren PVA Vlaar (Debuchy) (B. Davies)
    Siggy Mata Ramsay Tadic (Cork)
    Rooney Costa Welbeck

I know that I need to sort my defence out but only have 1 FT and 0 ITB. Most suggestions seem to be not to take a hit on defensive changes but I need at least 2 new players as Debuchy is out long term and Davies has been an epic fail! Would dearly love to bring ADM in for Mata but it's less of a priority. So the options are:-

    A. Debuchy & Davies - >> Duff & Bertrand/Clyne (-4)
    B. Lovren & Debuchy & Mata ->> Duff & Bertrand & ADM (-8)
    C. Play wildcard.

I desperately want to avoid C if I can but also have worries over Rooney and my keepers.

    Any and all suggestions appreciated.

I'd go A and get ADM next week though his price might go up.

      1. beesboy
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

Not an option really as the price difference from Lovren to Duff gives me the cash I need for Mata to ADM. A price rise shouldn't affect that but need to sell Lovren now if I want ADM. Or take another -4 next week but then his price will probably be higher so I might still struggle to get him in.
