Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 5

Our Monday afternoon regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
The Midlands outfit were hit hard by a virus prior to the weekend home defeat to Arsenal. Paul Lambert confirmed Darren Bent and Nathan Baker missed out altogether, whilst Ashley Westwood also failed to feature – he was initially named in the starting XI but was forced to drop out. Andi Weimann was also subbed off at the break after struggling to overcome the same problem.

Burnley
Clarets midfielder David Jones was subbed off after 86 minutes of the weekend goalless draw against Sunderland with “a minor thigh injury”.

Chelsea
Ramires was withdrawn on 63 minutes having suffered a knee injury. Early reports suggest that the Brazilian could face a term of absence with the midfielder undergoing scans early this week.

Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Philippe Coutinho missed the trip to West Ham due to a groin problem, while Jordan Henderson is being assessed after picking up a hip complaint.

Man United
Jonny Evans was withdrawn after just 30 minutes of United’s loss at Leicester with a leg problem and, post-match, Louis van Gaal admitted:

“I don’t know how bad Evans is. We have to wait for a scan tomorrow but he is on crutches.”

Newcastle
Cheick Tiote will be assessed after limping off towards the end of Saturday’s home draw with Hull.

QPR
The problems are building up in midfield for Harry Redknapp. Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch were passed fit for Saturday’s home clash with Stoke after heading into the match as doubts due to hamstring problems – both players were subsequently subbed off with a recurrence of the injuries, whilst Sandro missed out altogether due to a knee complaint.

Southampton
Both Maya Yoshida and James Ward-Prowse were forced off with ankle problems in the weekend win at Swansea. New boy Toby Alderweireld missed Liberty clash with a minor hamstring problem but is expected to be back next weekend.

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher and Ricardo Alvarez missed the Black Cats’ trip to Burnley due to a calf complaint and knock respectively, though the latter has since been passed fit for tomorrow’s Capital One clash with Stoke. Gus Poyet has also revealed that Emmanuel Giaccherini was forced off on his first start of the season and will be assessed:

“Giaccherini had plenty of energy, going between the lines and I think he was one of our best players. That was the idea of playing him; to create that little bit more. He was thereabouts, so it’s not bad from him. Unfortunately, he took a big knock which we need to check today.”

Swansea
Dwight Tiendalli missed the weekend home defeat to Southampton with a slight groin problem.

West Brom
Giorgos Samaras missed out through injury as the Baggies picked up a 1-0 win at Spurs yesterday.

West Ham
Midfielder Cheick Kouyate is set to undergo scans after picking up a groin problem against Liverpool on Saturday evening – the summer signing stayed on the field after Sam Allardyce had made all three substitutions.

2FT and 1.4 in the bank.

Should i do both of these or save the mata transfer to next week? Lots in my mini league have di maria and his haul at the weekend hurt my lead.

    Mata > Di Maria
    Chester > Van Aanholt

    Krul (Elliot)
    Bertrand Manquillo Wisdom (Duff Chester)
    Siggy Sterling Ramsey Fabregas(vc) Mata
    Costa(c) Rooney (Naismith)

I've transfered in those two - for players a lot better than Mata/Chester. So it seems like a sensible move to me.

U may regret taking out Rooney before west ham at home. I don't believe adm will keep his level of output going, and I'm an owner.

After seeing Leicester do you not think that Fat Sam will look to rough up Blind and United and throw them off their attacking game hoping for a set piece goal?

They won't park the bus as QPR showed that's not the way but they surely will try to expose them like Leicester did.

Route one and rough stuff is coming.

Is it me, am I the only one seeing Dat Guy as 9-10m striker? He is gonna be my second striker and I am gonna use the extra funds in mid and def. If the move happened before the prices I am sure he wpild have been at least 9 m. Solid price for no 1 Arsenal striker. They have goals in them

Yep..This time next year he'll be 9.0 and Giroud will be nowhere to be seen..Pelle won't be far behind him on 8.5...

Problem is when Giroud comes back, because I think they're pretty much at the same level. What Giroud lacks in energy, he makes up for in technique, the opposite is true for Welbeck. Both of them are poor finishers for players aspiring to be top strikers.

Agreed. Welbeck's no Henry but with creative forces behind him like Ramsey, Ozil, Wilshere, Sanchez, Cazorla, and soon Walcott, I can see him scoring - and assisting - often.

He works and combines well with the midfield, and makes numerous direct runs behind the central defenders. His positioning and awareness is decent, although his finishing is disappointing at times. If he grows in confidence his composure will naturally follow suit, making him fairly dangerous, I'd say. From gameweek 8 Arsenal have a great run of fixtures, and if he scores against Spurs and/or Chelsea he'll be essential by then.

7.1 for a nailed top-4 striker is ridiculously good value. As already mentioned if this transfer had happened before the game's release, he would have likely been priced at 8.0 or even higher.

Pelle absolutely pounds him in many stats in a head-to-head comparison, though some of them are even. Welbeck is also a rotation risk once Walcott is back as Wenger will want to fit both Sanchez and Walcott into his attack.

      1. FPL Daniel
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 9 months ago

I didnt say Pelle cant be third striker.. Regarding stats check atats per game they r both good, Welbeck maybe better because lot of Pelle attempts r headers and those shots statistically have lower conversion rate.

I amend my statement above. Welbeck is clearly a 10m buy. We r just blind by his current price. Happened a lot in the past to me 2. Especially this season we certainly need value. Barring injury till Jan WC he stays for me.

One more brave statement: He will score similar in FPL like Rooney. There I've said it.

I don't see it as an issue personally, though I'm reluctant to have more than 1 from any team in any position. May make an exception for Ramsey-Walcott if Tadic doesn't start scoring though.

Not sure I'd have Silva and Aguero, 21m of your budget gone and tied up in 2 x City players, rather have Sterling than Silva but also I wouldn't Henderson. If you reduced Henderson to a 4.5m you could upgrade your defence a bit, bear in mind you're not going to play Vlaar for next few weeks!

Any suggestion on who to bring in in defence? I think Taylor Clyne and Pieters will be fine as they all have good fixtures

I would advise you to look at the Watchlist on the right on this page, its a very good guideline for what you need to do

Most people would say no, they've all done it (including me) 😉

Just worried Naismith won't be guaranteed time now. and Ulloa looks unstoppable

Yeah, think he'll start vs Liverpool, but he is now a rotation risk, and Everton seem to be going all in for EL as well

As you said Naismith isn't nailed on, sounds good transfer to me

Ramsey > Ozil ? Is a sideways move like that worth it?

No, wouldn't want Ozil yet, only one good game - if he's secured a place in the hole then maybe

Was you considering this move before he scored?

I wasn't, but that was before he got his favourite spot back, and Arsenal got their best result of the season 😉

Rather have Rambo, Walcott may be a better option though when he returns

+1 Their fixtures look great after that. Plus I think with the rest of my midfield Ramseys likely to be benched til then anyway 😉

arguably perfect, gives you 2 more weeks to assess what the deal is

ramsey will still bomb through midfield if wenger plays the 4-2-3-1. on that alone, i wouldn't do it. not to mention ozil had one good game.

that said, i am tempted to triple up on ars after gw8, have welbz and sanchez, with view of bringing in walcott in

Odds of Sterling going up before Friday?

I left 2.7m to get him in for Chadli if my punt on Chadli failed. Which it did.

GW8 would double Arsenal attack with Ramsey and Welbeck be too much?

      No.

Maybe, i'm definitely looking at getting in Welbeck, but not too sure about Ramsey, might keep him as a placeholder until Walcott returns.

i'm planning exactly that. lukaku and ozil/ramsey is exactly the same money as benteke and alexis too. liverpool, everton and arsenal look ripe to double up on at that time

I refuse to buy Lukaku ab, remember last season's Scoutcast?

would double on Pool but I think I will have bigger priorities like dumping DDG, Caulker and Chadli

was shocked when i saw de gea made 0 saves last game. keepers confuse me a bit, like krul and de gea faced less shots this gameweek than mannone and heaton, how do you judge them. i'm happiest when my keeper gets 6, but at the same time you greedily want the save points too
