The ScoutCast – Episode 137 – Precious

Every little point counts. With the mini-league gap between myself and co-host Granville widening by the week, my Mancunian friend can ill-afford to throw points aside in his bid to follow up last season’s victorious campaign.

In and around the usual ScoutCast regulars, Granville recalls the dilemma that saw him get away with benching Cesc Fabregas to the tune of just a single point. Will that prove costly?

We then join forces to run the rule over the accelerating Di Maria bandwagon, assess Rooney’s re-positioning and decide whether those steering away from Ramsey Street need to re-programme their sat navs.

Treasure this nonsense via this link or cling to these worldly goods via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I can see goals in the derby this weekend, so unsure whether Moreno is worth a punt (in a similar predicament to you!)

I'm leaning towards Clyne Naylor Duff TBH.

Clyne Duff Naylor. Moreno won't get a CS and don't think he'll score

Id play Naylor I think. I actually benched Moreno, but Im not sure Id play Duff over him.

I think he has had one...ivan is by far the superior attacking threat, and the only one worth owning of the chelski backline if they continue to let in goals imo

    Foster

    Cahill - PvA - N. Taylor

    Hazard (C) - Siggy - Sterling - ADM

See a good post earlier about best strike partnerships, what about favourite first goalscorer bets , I remember a time when Van Nistelrooy Larrson and Henry used to be nuts , 3 x £5 doubles and a £5 treble came in for me so many times

      Courtois - AVL (H)

      Clyne - QPR (H) / Wisdom - BUR (H) / Moreno - EVE (H)

      Sterling - EVE (H) / Fabregas - AVL (H) / Siggy - SUN (A) / Di Maria - WHU (H)

      (VC) Costa - AVL (H) / (C) Pelle - QPR (H) / Rooney - WHU (H)

All set?? (Its not a wildcard). any transfers recommended? and is Pelle (C) too risky considering Costa's ownership?

Superb, similar to mine. Different captain though.

I like Pelle as captain this gameweek, its a bit boring captaining Costa every week (although that is probably what I will end up doing) and this is the best GW for a Pelle [c]. My team is pretty similar to yours so obviously I'm gonna say its all set... 🙂

    • rickardinho
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

Its so tempting to captain Pelle instead of Costa, but after captaining Tadic in GW3 and benching Fabregas in GW4 I could really do with a stress-free weekend with no risky moves.

That said benching Siggy in favour of Ulloa could backfire!

      1. Aaron Ramessi - Straya
        • 10 Years

considering you already have double soton attack, id put it on costa 🙂

          • 9 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

Yeah thats exactly what I'm thinking. Pelle is only owned by about 7% so i should benefit from his scoring anyways without the captaincy. I don't want another awkward weekend watching Costa sheepishly hoping he doesn't do too much

      2. DRAFTSNAKE
        • 9 Years

why would you captain Tadic away at West Ham? or rest Cesc at home to Swansea?! and you're benching Siggy this week... you're a maverick renegade with no time for playbooks!

          9 years, 8 months ago

          oops I meant GW4 and 5.

Captained Tadic at home to Newcastle (he got 6 points but could have easily been in double figures with more luck), and dropped Fab at City.

I can see Coutinho getting the start if we play similar tactics to last year. Depends on his fitness obviously, but Lallana did just play 120 minutes which was his first game over 60 minutes of the season (other than a behind the doors friendly vs Wolves)

Tricky one. I can't see it if Balotelli & Sturridge/Borini start. It'll be Sterling at the tip of the diamond again. Lallana to be used as an impact sub.

He'll start if Rodgers goes with just Balotelli up top.

      Guys,

Who do I ship for Baines in GW8 - Stoke or Swansea defender? am on Wildcard and am really struggling to decide. Am fVouring to get shot of Swansea (NYlor/Williams), but they have LEI fixture. Is really doing my head in. Need to make a choice. Any help appreciated !

Stoke, Swansea are good 2-9 and come good again 13- so I'd ride out 10-12 with a Swans def, tis what I'll be doing anyway

TBH I pick defenders who I enjoy watching so they are generally from attacking teams and are all fullbacks so Marc Wilson would have to transfer to eg.Swansea and maraud as a right wingback a la Coleman for me to even consider him.

are we 100% convinced costa wont take pen duties from hazard?.....mourinho has alot of repuation staked in ensuring his premium signing gets 30+ goals....and altho it looks like hel get that regardless it wouldnt surprise me to see mour give him penos to ensure it happens......anyone know costas previous penalty taking history?.....is he known as a good penalty taker?

I took Costa out in GW3 on my WC with a view to bring in Hazard at some point. His home form and penalty duties meant I wouldn't have any qualms captainng him.

Even without pens, Costa has been frighteningly good. I think he's the only essential player in the game at the minute and is the sole reason I'm 50 points behind in my ML. Damage done in just 2 gameweeks!

By all means weigh up the pros and cons, but don't not get Costa because of feeling like you've missed the boat. Don't be stubborn, do it for rational reasons.

Draft team pick for this week. Two issues: A) Is this my best set up? B) Decision for captaincy

      Begovic

      Terry/Bertrand/PvA/Moreno

      Mane/Tadic/Ramsey

      RvP/Adebayor/Austin

      Bench: Stones/Rose/Walcott/Lallana/Zaha

      Cheers guys

What is a reasonable number of goals and assists to expect this season for Hazard, Fabragas and Costa.
      I'll say
      Costa: 24 goals, 4 assists
      Hazard: 9 goals, 11 assists
      Fabregas: 6 goals, 15 assists

I'd say that looks about right, although I think Fabregas will push 20 assists and if Hazard is on penalties I think he'll end at about 15 goals.

Why do so many people think the Man United attack is so important at the moment?

I wouldn't be surprised if West Ham win 1-0 or 2-1! 'Big Sam' is well known for his '18C football' and it doesn't seem too hard get goals from United's leaky back four/three.

What I find even harder to understand is why anybody would want Falcao ahead of Costa, Ulloa or Pelle?

      1. Over the past 5 game-weeks all three have been consistently scoring equal to or greater to the 5 points Falcao managed last week.
      2. They all offer much greater value for money and have solid teams behind them (that aren't ravaged by injury) to create goalscoring chances for them.
      3. United have scored 9 goals in the last two games and Falcao was only involved in one of those goals, via an assist.

If I had to have a United player at the moment I would go for di Maria, he seems to be more closely involved in successful attacking moves and has scored well in the last two games.

(Despite not having either player) I stand by my prediction three weeks ago that Welbeck would at least match and likely highly outscore Falcao by January.

      So far after 2 game-weeks: Welbeck 14 vs. Falcao 6 😉

ADM's stats flatter him. I flagged him as a (c) pick last week, not because he's a great player (he is btw) but because the right side of the Leicester defence have conceded more chances than any other part of any defence, even Moses looked a class act the week before against them. I have ADM but I'm not gonna jump up and down and think he is a top pick..not yet anyway...He may or may not turn out to be better than the likes of Ramsey, we'll see.

Great post mate. I also noticed that Leicester's right side had conceded loads of chances when looking at the stats. Keep in mind that they have played against Baines, Di Maria, and Moses have been their teams' biggest attacking threats though so its not really a surprise, but its still something to consider.

Fwiw I agree about ADM not being as great a pick as people make him out to be. He'll soon be playing much better teams, like Everton, Arsenal, and Chelsea, as well as teams capable of shutting up shop like West Ham and WBA recently (CS at Southampton and at Spurs). It should be worrying that he very very rarely got in the box, even against easy opponents like QPR.

Evening Gimps and Gimpesses. Don't often use the RMT is it normal for it to select a player which it predicts is going to score less than one on the bench. Surely that cannot be right?

RMT probably assumes that the selected player will score more points if he actually plays, and that the other one will come off the bench if he doesn't, but the points quoted take into account the probability that the selected player is less likely to play.

Why are Mark and Granville suggesting that Granville ought to have a go at being our Community Scout Picks Champion?

Surely the Mods and Contributors are ineligible - I haven't noticed other Scouts such as Evs or TM attempting to be our Champion.

If Granville or other Mods and Contributors want contribute to the Scout Picks process then they should advise or replace one of the other three Scouts instead.

We don't discuss the picks now like last season. Those 3 pick their teams so anyone else would be just naming a team.
Don't think the process for picking a team is great atm & most wouldn't bother with the promotion needed.
