The ScoutCast – Episode 137 – Precious

Every little point counts. With the mini-league gap between myself and co-host Granville widening by the week, my Mancunian friend can ill-afford to throw points aside in his bid to follow up last season’s victorious campaign.

In and around the usual ScoutCast regulars, Granville recalls the dilemma that saw him get away with benching Cesc Fabregas to the tune of just a single point. Will that prove costly?

We then join forces to run the rule over the accelerating Di Maria bandwagon, assess Rooney’s re-positioning and decide whether those steering away from Ramsey Street need to re-programme their sat navs.

Treasure this nonsense via this link or cling to these worldly goods via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think I am going to try to not do one transfer at a time any more if you save up 2 transfers it just offers so much more flexibility.

One of the most important things Ive learned about FPL is 2FT are better than the sum of their individual parts.

I'm coming round to this way of thinking. You're best holding out each week if you can.

I went a while one or two seasons ago where I had two transfers saved and only used one each week. Felt really nice having that security that I could make two if I needed to.

Villa could cater their tactics to purely cancel him out and give him no space, whereas Fabregas pulls the strings from the center for the whole attack pretty much

Whos a better pick, Naylor or PVA?

I MAY change to Baines on GW8 so PVA seems better due to next 2 fixtures.

But if Im sticking with Costa Aguero Welbz/Pelle then I wont get Baines which means Naylor a better pick

Good to go with my draft side? Two issues: A) Is this my best set up? B) Decision for captaincy

    Begovic

    Terry/Bertrand/PvA/Moreno

    Mane/Tadic/Ramsey

    RvP/Adebayor/Austin

    Bench: Stones/Rose/Walcott/Lallana/Zaha

    Cheers guys

Yes, Tadic was where I was thinking of putting the armband. Austin is indeed the weak spot. Ideally I want to play either Zaha or Lallana but I'm getting the impression that neither will start this week.

I think that looks about right. I was going to say start Lallana over Moreno but at least Moreno is nailed on to play 90 minutes. I'd probably give the captaincy to RVP.

Yeah mate the restrictions last season in a 20 man league made us all scrape the bottom of the barrel. I ended up making a late surge into 4th place though.
The one I'm in now I've got a sweet team. It's basically fpl type squads and lineup. I've Got:
            Mignolet Mcgregor
            Luis Gibbs Trippier Bardsley Bertrand
            Ozil Tadic Mane Chadli Fabregas
            Sturridge Adebayor Diouf

            Currently 3rd out of 15

Nice side. I got 7th pick which is pretty bad and was a bit pissed at the draft. Should have got Sturridge in instead of RvP as I had the chance. May cost me.

Yeah I picked up Sturridge at 7th I think. Got Walcott with my 2nd pick but traded him a couple weeks ago for Adebayor. Think I made a mistake there. Hopefully ade pulls his finger out soon. No idea what to do with luis. Probably drop him soon

I've made a list of below the radar free agents and Luis is on there. If you can keep him waiting in the wings you may benefit. Ivanovic may be dropped at some point.

May I say I hate owning Adebayor. You can guess the reasons why I am sure. There's more than one.

So when a team has a stake in another such as Man City do with New York City and then take a loan of a player from them as they have with Frank Lampard could this be viewed as a way of dodging the financial fair play rules?

I don't know what the arrangement is but supposing one team signed a player for a significant fee then loaned it to their parent club who would only pay a proprtion of the wages this would make things a lot cheaper financially.

For those deliberating between Pelle and Costa for the armband.

Please assign a probability to each of the following outcomes:

    1) Costa outscores Pelle by 4+
    2) Costa outscores Pelle by less than 4
    3) Same points
    4) Pelle outscores Costa by less than 4
    5) Pelle outscores Costa by more than 4

The only outcome that would DEEPLY disturb me if I choose Pelle (c) is 1). The potential benefit of a big differential is worth this risk to me, particularly since I believe Costa carries an injury/rotation risk for GW6 that Pelle does not. Thoughts?

I hear what you're saying, if you think Costa/Pelle are roughly equivalent picks, or that Pelle is better this week, by all means pick Pelle. Go big or go home. But ultimately, if your goal is maximizing points, you should be ignoring ownership because it does not matter one bit in who will score more points. But if you'll get more enjoyment out of captaining Pelle, that's a perfectly fine reason for picking him.

Agree with your position on maximizing points. But you are exactly right - taking a calculated risk to differentiate makes the game a lot more fun for me. Cheers.

Based on this small sample size, the decision to Pelle (c) would carry an estimated risk of 20% - 25% of being truly slaughtered (outcome 1). I am prepared to take the risk of a small Pelle scoring shortfall compared to Costa in exchange for a potentially significant differential to the Costa (c) herd.

Said another way, there appears to be a 75-80% chance of an acceptable or better outcome (outcomes 2-5 are acceptable or better to me) if I choose Pelle. Acceptable in the sense that I am willing to bear this risk for a potential differential haul.

I have to commend you for your line of thinking that you've presented in this thread.

I myself am tantilized by the idea of captaining Pelle, but I was burned in GW4 when I captained Tadic when Costa got his 17 point haul (Tadic had 6), and was also biting my nails last weekend with Fabregas benched. For once I want to be able to enjoy my weekend safe in the knowledge that I haven't taken any unnecessary risks.

I'm sat looking at my team, JWP with a big red mark beside him and 1.0 ITB, thinking that Man Utd have only one fit senior central defender and that Downing is in form and only 0.5 more than the man he would replace... I wouldn't would I?

But if I did, who would I bench from this lot: Siggy, Sterling, ADM, Fab, Costa, Rooney, Ulloa?

Free transfer or hit? I have a similar benching issue to that myself. It is proving quite the head scratcher

      1. Diva
        • 9 Years

It would be for a hit - which is probably enough to kill the idea, but I do need to shift JWP soon and I'm not adverse to taking a hit to remove a long-term injured player.

I wouldn't take a hit just to maybe shove the guy or another perfectly good option on the bench. (Unless it was to facilitate the other transfer/s)
