The Weekend Team News

Christian Benteke could be set to return to the Villa squad to face City. Daniel Sturridge remains a doubt for Liverpool. The central midfield woes build for Burnley, Stoke have worries out wide for their trip to Sunderland, Hull are set to be without their number one keeper for the next month, whilst Nacho Monreal may be back for Arsenal.

Sean Dyche faces a problem in central midfield ahead of the trip to Leicester. The Burnley boss has confirmed that Dean Marney and David Jones are still unavailable, whilst Nathaniel Chalobah is also ruled out after sustaining a throat injury during a midweek reserve outing.

Christian Benteke looks set to return to the Villa squad for the first time in months. The Belgian turned out for the reserves in midweek as he steps up his recovery from an anterior ligament injury, though Paul Lambert has admitted Ron Vlaar is likely to miss out yet again as City roll up to Villa Park.

Steve Harper is set to start for Hull’s home encounter with Palace after Allan McGregor was ruled out for around four weeks with a shoulder injury.

Nacho Monreal has a chance of returning in time for Arsenal’s trip to Chelsea, Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier this morning.

Mame Biram Diouf is unavailable for Stoke this weekend after sustaining a hamstring injury in Monday’s win over Newcastle. Victor Moses is expected to shake off a minor thigh problem in time for the trip to Sunderland.

Wes Brown is available for the Black Cats once again after missing out with a calf complaint last weekend. Emmanuel Giaccherini remains a doubt for Gus Poyet’s side, though.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted he’ll have to “wait and see” over Daniel Sturridge’s fitness as Liverpool prepare to face West Brom. The Reds boss has confirmed the likes of Joe Allen, Emre Can, Jon Flanagan, Glen Johnson and Mamadou Sakho remain sidelined.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

On wildcard.. For the long term, money no problem..

    ADM and Welbeck

    or

Ozil and Falcao (leaves the option of getting Rambo and Rooney back if I wish)

Curently have Eriksen sitting in the midfield spot though. Was planning to give one more week then get the Ozil/Ramsey in, being as they are away to Chelsea and Spurs at home.. The Welbeck hatty has muddled my mind though!

I think you're right though, nothing 2FT's can't fix anyway. Rest of team spot-on!

I kind of think so, but I seem to be in the minority. It makes sense if you need a hit to get aguerro in though.

Hm. Depends on the strategy, really. Mannone isn't the worst, but I have Heaton and reasonably happy. Schmeichel is also viable.

    A) Hazard
    B) Silva
    C) Gerrard
    D) Özil

Not sure whether I made the worst xfer of my FPL career on Tues! Did Ramsey to Boyd in vague attempt to free up money for Sergio.

I now have 6.2 million in the bank but would it require another 3 xfers = 12 point hit!

Chester > Moore, Rio to 4.0 (or less) Bojan > Sergio

    Do I

    1)stick,
    2) twist
    3)Just bring in Moore
    4) Forget Aguero and bring in Baines & Azpilicueta

    Mannone

    Clyne , N Taylor, Rio*

ADM , Sterling , Fábregas, Siggy, Boyd

    Pelle, Costa

    Bench: Krul, Chester*, Wisdom, Bojan*

Gawd. Must be some other way to deal with that mess. Can't you just get some other striker in for Bojan, like Welbeck or Lukaku? Or even Benteke?

Cheers, that's they way t go I think if I'm to get Sergio at some point.

        However now leaning towards:

        Mannone

Clyne , N Taylor, Baines*, Azpilicueta*

ADM , Sterling , Fábregas, Siggy,

        Pelle, Costa, Wellbeck*

        Bench: Krul, Wisdom, Boyd

With 0.0 in bank; wildcard is calling

Is Guzan and Mannone the best rotation combo for around 9m?

There are a lot of away fixtures you need to play them in though.

Guzan and Heaton rotate better but Mannone is a better option than Heaton imo.

I've popped a bit more coal in the Wakomatic steam powered stats generator and have the numbers for the FWDS....Once again no consideration is given to recent goals or assists with the number entirely "potential" driven in respect of upcoming opponents etc..

Something of a bunching up of picks this weeks from the numbers but I'm sure anybody contemplating fwds transfers are aware of that.

    Pelle 66
    Costa 59
    Aguero 57
    Welbeck 55
    Sturridge 53
    Crouch 52
    Ulloa 51
    Sakho 47
    Lukaku 47
    Dzeko 43
    RVP 43
    Balo 42
    Valencia 41
    Ade 40
    Berahino 37
    .
    .
    .
Falcao 21 (apologies to those who picked him but that's what he is right now)

so what are the main stats you take into account? touches in box? shots? shots on target? And do you weight them all equally? Also, how do you rank and weight the difficulty of the upcoming fixtures? Thanks

Yep all of those and more...so for example more than 50% shots on target is a +1...playing ahead of the striker for mids is another +1...Good home fixtures another +1..and on and on..

Good...Picked Crouch out two weeks ago whilst everybody slumbered...21 pts in his last two games. Of course the acid test is over six weeks...The purpose is to try and pick the potential for the likes of Crouch as short term picks...Picking Costa is easy..

Got Terry and Betrand as only defenders who'll start this weekend.

Others who might / might not play are Dummet & Chester.

Worth -4 to swap Chester for a certain starter (i.e. Moore?)?

And Balo knows himself that this is his last chance at a biggish club. That is how it works for clubs with limited funds. Dont you think Danny(although one of my favorite players) was a gamble?

          • 11 Years

not to the same extent. he has work rate and still contributes when not scoring. also Wenger wouldn't be coming out with this stuff if Welbz wasn't scoring. it was only right at the very end after one incident too many that he stopped talking up Bendtner after all

          1. Kostja

Hard to tell who is right here, you seem to think he is throwing Balo under the bus here. I think he just knows it wont be easy but he can provide value for 16 mil and be a solid 15 goal striker

            1. Kostja
              • 12 Years
              9 years, 8 months ago

I appreciate that he is not giving us BS how this is sort of all part of the plan or Balo is playing great, team just not creating chances. This is open declaration that more is expected from Balo. And if Liverpool want to save this season he is the man who has to step up IMO

probably somewhere in the middle. this tactic could be to fire up Balotelli and motivate him. but to me it seems like Brendan is trying to avoid responsibility

That is probably true on most transfers, you get the best that is available for that money. U really think United would not have Vidal instead of Blind or smthn. I agree with you that he is complaining a bit, but I can see why, when the club have an opportunity to stay in the CL and to compete there and than they dont provide the funds. Liverpool should have been top spender this pre season IMO, considering the leap they have to make. I bet they could have gotten Falcao if they really would have showed intent.

    I could be wrong here,

Does Mourinho not have a track record of picking players so are playing previous clubs or clubs they are motivated to play against.

Remy was basically told he was going to Arsenal even seen at Arsenal games at the end of the season but for it to fall through, so will not be suprised if he starts vs Arsenal and Costa is rested to the bench only brought on if needed with a slight injury worry and pulls out of the Spain squad.

Mourinho has a proven record of using players motivation to his benefit.

Which transfer is the priority for next GW

    1) Krul > Forster - reason is obvious
    2) Vardy > Aguero - worries me not having Aguero but Vardy ahs a very good run and massive differential
    3) Ivanovic > Chambers - frees up some cash, Chelsea not defensive til after Xmas. Arsenal have a good run coming up and historically very good defence.

who's your other stopper, if you don't make a change,, but yeah id love to have forster?

vardy is more exciting to have in team, i'm not fussed about chasing after aguero for that price, loads of decent strikers for cheaper producing the points.

i have ivan and fancy a change, I'm looking at baines for fun an i don't have any of the toffees yet, or bertrand cos saints defence is best so far. but chambers looks a decent option although you've just missed his price up.

Anyone the wise on how Baines recovered from 6.9m back to his 7m starting price this week?! 182k transfers out and 110k transfers in.

Presumably, because he is owned by quite a few teams at the beginning it needs a percentage of these to sell to drop 0.1m and then a fixed amount to go back up?

I'd play Clyne. Attacking returns and WBA showed that Spurs aren't the best post Europa. Plus Ulloa has great home attacking stats. Burnley's defence without Jones and Marney to protect them is League 1/bottom half of Championship at best.

I've seen a lot of promoted teams over the years. I can safely say that Burnley are doomed. They just don't have the personnel to survive.

Leicester look far better...some depth there and importantly they have goal scorers.

In a bit of a pickle chaps..

            Have a front 8 of

            Fab , Ramsey , Sterling , Siggy , Boyd
            Costa , Aguero , Naismith

With 1FT, I have to ship Ramsey out. But is it worth downgrading and using the budget to upgrade Naismith this week for -4?
I think I should perhaps hold out for another week as Everton could score, but Ulloa, Pelle, Welbeck and others are tempting...
