Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 7

Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was named in the starting XI to face City but was forced to withdraw prior to kick-off due to illness.

Burnley
Right-back Kieran Trippier is set to be assessed after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw at Leicester – after the match, Sean Dyche was hoping the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois was subbed off midway through the first-half of yesterday’s win over Arsenal due to a head injury. The club have since confirmed the keeper has been given the all-clear after undergoing precautionary tests and is expected to turn out for Belgium over the international break.

Crystal Palace
Scott Dann is set for knee scans after being forced off just 12 minutes into the weekend loss at Hull.

Everton
Steven Pienaar lasted just 64 minutes of the weekend loss at United before being forced off with a possible recurrence of the thigh injury that had kept him on the sidelines since Gameweek 2. John Stone was stretchered off at Old Trafford, with Roberto Martinez a little worried in his initial prognosis:

“It’s a ligament problem in his ankle. We are going to assess him in the next 48 hours. It’s such a massive blow because, as you have seen today, he plays with an incredible arrogance and great maturity. It’s not for me to say yet [whether he will be fit for England] because we need to get the medical department to assess him. But for him to come off, then I don’t expect John to be fully fit for next week.”

Hull
Ahmed Elmohamady was subbed off in the dying minutes of the weekend win over Palace due to injury.

Leicester City
Esteban Cambiasso missed out with a recurrence of a knock picked up at Palace last week. The Argentine had previously been passed fit by Nigel Pearson but was unable to make the squad for the 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Man City
Fernandinho will be assessed after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend win at Villa, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed post-match.

Man United
Luke Shaw was withdrawn midway through the second half of United’s win over Everton yesterday but after the match, the left-back revealed he expects to turn out for the upcoming internationals:

“It’s not a bad injury, it’s a dead leg on my knee. I felt it in the first 20 minutes when I got caught but it carried on during the game so I thought it was probably best to come off before it gets any worse. I spoke with the doctor and obviously the manager as well and both feel it’s best that I do go [with the England Under-21s] as it’s not an injury that is going to keep me out. Hopefully, I should be training in the next couple of days and can get another two games of 90 minutes each.”

Post-match, it was also revealed that Paddy McNair had suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory. The young defender was forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with reports claiming that he could be sidelined for three weeks.

Newcastle
Magpies right-back Daryl Janmaat has puled out of international duties for Holland after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend draw at Swansea.

Stoke City
After overcoming a thigh problem for the trip to Sunderland, Victor Moses was subbed off with a recurrence of the problem, with Mark Hughes explaining:

“Victor came off against Newcastle on Monday and we had him scanned. Nothing showed up and we were hoping that it was just a neural thing but he felt it almost immediately and had to come off. We lacked his drive and the purpose that he’s given us in recent games and although him going off disrupted us, it’s not an excuse as we should have been able to compensate for that.”

Sunderland
Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricardo Alvarez missed the 3-1 win over Stoke through injury and post-match, Gus Poyet admitted the duo, along with Seb Coates, “are going to be out for a while”.

Tottenham
Kyle Naughton was an early casualty in yesterday’s win over Southampton – the right-back was subbed off midway through the first period after sustaining an ankle injury as a result of a challenge from Ryan Bertrand.

Aguero INSTEAD of Costa is an option I don't think anyone has been tempted by just yet.

I have a feeling this could indeed work. The risk is probably too great though.

Falcao is an option. Not convinced he his worth 10.9m though?

Also, i wouldn't want both him and ADM for the fixtures they have coming up and out of the two of them, ADM is still the better option IMO.

Crazy. Costa is essential and Aguero might be as well if he keeps it up and stays fit. Making sure I had both was one of the main priorities of my WC.

If you already have Ivan, then Ivan + Baines may be too much.

I would definitely want Bertrand out of that lot though if it was for the rest of the season. Better chance of clean sheets than Baines just now and i suspect he will get more attacking points than Azpi.

Ivanovic's goal threat has really gone down post GW 4 😯
Run a comparison between him GW 2-4 and between GW 5-7 .. Now consider the fact that they've got cpl, mun and liv in the next 4. can see him defending a lot more than attacking over the next 4 atleast.

it's not about their defenses.. it's how Mourinho sets up in these tough games. Ivanovic gets put on a leash so to speak 🙂 .. more of a if you have be happy if you dont then prob opt for Azpi for 1.3 cheaper

Any random players people are keeping a close eye on?

I'm watching Valencia, Sakho and Downing closely. I'm looking to get one of those 3 in soon.

Also got an eye on Routledge, Lallana, Mane, Berahino and Dorrans.

      Why are they random?

Because none of them are fashionable names really. Of course there are people looking at Sakho and Downing, but the rest are barely in anyones teams around these parts.

Shawcross. Probably not that random as he's the defender with the 6th best score.

    Interesting stat

Hendo has 5th most assists in pl since the start of last season with 10

    Only behind gerrard(13) suarez(12) rooney(12) and silva(11) has more

      All down to Rodgers' coaching.

Pity he can't do as well with defenders 🙄

Rogers stated that he wants him getting more goals this season and involved higher up the field. Hasn't got as much as he could have due to formation change due to injuries.

Valargentina.......how did Vardy look this week, did his assist flatter him?

Trying to be brave and hold him for the good run of fixtures but that cash in the bank is screaming to ditch for Aguero.

Leicester on the whole looked poor 🙁 .. He and Mahrez were the main attacking threat though. Check his average positioning for a shock 🙂 .. Still sticking with what i said about him being a better option than Ulloa and since Vardy's been back it's been justified. Great value for money as an 8th attacker at his price. the problem is Ulloa has not been playing well at all alongside Vardy. Seems to work better with Nugent while Vardy is much, much better than Nugent.. I would not want to be Pearson atm. tough dilemma he has on his hands. Hopefully Ulloa starts clicking with Vardy soon

i would upgrade him to Aguero btw!! Come on!! i may upgrade him soon too.. cant survive in fpl for too long without a bigger hitter as a 3rd forward thought i am trying 🙂

    can we really trust welbeck??

He scored one goal fro ars in the league and the hattrick in CL for which you have to give him credit but... they were all from the same spot 🙂 against a leaky defence...

with all the options available, not so sure I want him.

Now there is the "value for money" argument but I just want the points!!!

He has sanchez ozil cazorla ox feeding him though. and arsenal seems to do well against small teams. Id prefer welbeck over pelle

I currently have pelle so keeping him for the next two... not sure I want welbeck in there also... other option is to keep falcao, but that wont allow for baines nor ivan

Look at Naismith's fixtures.Villa, Swans, Hammers at home out of next five. Burnley/Sun away. Not convinced by Welbeck and will wait and see.
