Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 7

Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was named in the starting XI to face City but was forced to withdraw prior to kick-off due to illness.

Burnley
Right-back Kieran Trippier is set to be assessed after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw at Leicester – after the match, Sean Dyche was hoping the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois was subbed off midway through the first-half of yesterday’s win over Arsenal due to a head injury. The club have since confirmed the keeper has been given the all-clear after undergoing precautionary tests and is expected to turn out for Belgium over the international break.

Crystal Palace
Scott Dann is set for knee scans after being forced off just 12 minutes into the weekend loss at Hull.

Everton
Steven Pienaar lasted just 64 minutes of the weekend loss at United before being forced off with a possible recurrence of the thigh injury that had kept him on the sidelines since Gameweek 2. John Stone was stretchered off at Old Trafford, with Roberto Martinez a little worried in his initial prognosis:

“It’s a ligament problem in his ankle. We are going to assess him in the next 48 hours. It’s such a massive blow because, as you have seen today, he plays with an incredible arrogance and great maturity. It’s not for me to say yet [whether he will be fit for England] because we need to get the medical department to assess him. But for him to come off, then I don’t expect John to be fully fit for next week.”

Hull
Ahmed Elmohamady was subbed off in the dying minutes of the weekend win over Palace due to injury.

Leicester City
Esteban Cambiasso missed out with a recurrence of a knock picked up at Palace last week. The Argentine had previously been passed fit by Nigel Pearson but was unable to make the squad for the 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Man City
Fernandinho will be assessed after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend win at Villa, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed post-match.

Man United
Luke Shaw was withdrawn midway through the second half of United’s win over Everton yesterday but after the match, the left-back revealed he expects to turn out for the upcoming internationals:

“It’s not a bad injury, it’s a dead leg on my knee. I felt it in the first 20 minutes when I got caught but it carried on during the game so I thought it was probably best to come off before it gets any worse. I spoke with the doctor and obviously the manager as well and both feel it’s best that I do go [with the England Under-21s] as it’s not an injury that is going to keep me out. Hopefully, I should be training in the next couple of days and can get another two games of 90 minutes each.”

Post-match, it was also revealed that Paddy McNair had suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory. The young defender was forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with reports claiming that he could be sidelined for three weeks.

Newcastle
Magpies right-back Daryl Janmaat has puled out of international duties for Holland after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend draw at Swansea.

Stoke City
After overcoming a thigh problem for the trip to Sunderland, Victor Moses was subbed off with a recurrence of the problem, with Mark Hughes explaining:

“Victor came off against Newcastle on Monday and we had him scanned. Nothing showed up and we were hoping that it was just a neural thing but he felt it almost immediately and had to come off. We lacked his drive and the purpose that he’s given us in recent games and although him going off disrupted us, it’s not an excuse as we should have been able to compensate for that.”

Sunderland
Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricardo Alvarez missed the 3-1 win over Stoke through injury and post-match, Gus Poyet admitted the duo, along with Seb Coates, “are going to be out for a while”.

Tottenham
Kyle Naughton was an early casualty in yesterday’s win over Southampton – the right-back was subbed off midway through the first period after sustaining an ankle injury as a result of a challenge from Ryan Bertrand.

Like Granville, I hate early subs, but sometimes price changes force your hand. Options for this international break period are:

    a) Dzeko & Sidwell (well somebody's got own him!) > Aguero & Downing
    b) Dzeko & Sidwell > Yaya & Dat Guy

    just a quick straw poll.

      A. Yaya this season is a strange one. Wouldn't go there for now at that price.

    Evening all,
Go a bit of a difficult on, do I:
A: Swap a couple of non-playing cheapies for a hit in JWP and Bruce for Baines and Tadic, or
B: Just do Bruce to Baines and play one of Ulloa or Siggy (one will be benched under A).
    Cheers!!

    Hey guys
So I played my WC but I'm still not sure what to go with yet

    Forster - McCarthy
    Clyne - Jags - Gibbs - Rose - Wisdom
    Sterling - Fab - ADM - Chadli - Siggy
    Costa - Welbz - Dzeko

So what I'm thinking atm is either:
    A) Dzeko, Sterling and Rose
    B) Aguero, Hendo and Moore
    C) Lukaku, Sterling and PVA

Please tell me your honest opinion, it'll help me a lot!

Who would you bench I'm midfield or attack out of that lot ?

Your going to cause yourself a headache.

Downgrade a mf player, and upgrade a striker.

I'm liking B for the differential appeal. Thoughts?

I think that's an illegal freekick though, since the guy is in contact with the ball too long... When someone takes a freekick or penalty someone else has to touch the ball before they can touch it again.

RP for night timers: Any ideas for a transfer with this team guys? Or best to save it? Injuries permitting of course. Not really fussed on dropping either komps or terry for baines btw.

    Forster (4.0)
    Terry / Kompany / Bertrand (Wisdom/Duff)
ADM / Sterling / Downing / Siggy (King)
    Costa / Welbeck / Aguero

Have 1FT and 1m in the bank.

    Guzan. Heaton.

    Costa. Aguero. Naismith.

Tadic is a waste of 7.5 IMO. You would have to drop him and Baines or him and Aguero...Its almost too late for you to do it without sacrificing a "essential" player.

If you have the money to do it, that would work I guess. Although I'm not big on dropping Fabregas. I'd almost consider Sterling before him. Fab takes every set piece and most corners.

Cahill has just kept 3Cs's in a row in all competitions, madness to get rid now imo.

DDG should get plenty of save points in the next few weeks, waste of a FT

Chester should see more gametime but has poor fixtures. I'd probably sort him out or save FT. I don't like Dummett either fwiw.

Who would be an ideal replacement for him though?

Wisdom or Hutton for sure. Hutton especially given fixtures until christmas.

Dummet at the moment is the best 4.0 (Excluding duff) Leicester (Moore) are just as bad as Newcastle defensively.

Has anyone here played PL draft fantasy before? I'd really appreciate some general tips on draft strategy...

    1. When do GK's tend to go?
    2. Is it better to be the one to set off the GK flurry by picking one first, or just to wait and pick one afterwards and hope to get an ok one?
    3. How late to defenders like Terry, Mertesacker, Kolarov, etc tend to be available until?
    4. Is it more important to pick the best players available even if it means they'll be a reserve, or should I prioritize picking my starters first, even if it means overlooking a better player in a position that is already full (like a 4th midfielder for example)?

Btw, I'm playing on Fantrax, and we can play 7 active players, with minimum's and maximum's as follows: GK:1-1, Def: 2-4, Mid: 1-3, Fwd: 0-2. I already picked Ramsey and Gerrard at 18 and 23.

      Only played once before but:

      1. Whenever someone sets off the flurry it seems. Around the midway point or later I think

      2. I'd wait but not too long. Some feckers get 2 and it left me without a playing keeper for most the season.

      3. You can usually get some good defenders late on, simply because the defensively sound teams usually have 4 solid options each.

      4. Big hitting strikers and mids first, they don't last long.

        Grazie amico! 🙂

I was choosing between Ramsey and Pelle with my first pick and went with Ramsey. Then when I was picking Gerrard the only ones left were Dzeko, Benteke, Bony, and that group which wasn't too appealing. I'll have to pick a striker with one of my next two picks though.

I think a decent defense can be built late on so I may just pick a GK before a defender, unless one of the Southampton fullbacks are still on the table.

You'll play 2-2-2 mostly. So, you've got mids covered. Go for strikers now.

Cheers, that's what i'm thinking too. I might be tempted to load up on good midfielders though and play 2-3-1 and maybe use a good mid as bait for a striker down the line.

They've got a fairly strong team now actually... Bale, Ramsey, Allen, Williams, Taylor/Davies,.. that young keeper... and a few young talents like Harry Wilson at Liverpool. Could be a decent team if everyone stays fit/available.

He's one of Liverpool's most important "piano carriers". If he hadn't been injured the last month we'd have done much better imo.

For example, he completely changed the game both against City and Southampton when he came on, and was one of the main reasons why we dominated Spurs away the way we did.

agreed. should outperform Scotland and Ireland. Euro qualification must surely be a priority, their group isn't particularly hard either - need to outqualify Bosnia Herzogovina who have already lost to Cyprus

I agree they have a decent potential team but were any of those ever going to beat him as player of the year?

Obviously not, he scored the winning goal for RM's decima CL win... no one is gonna beat that feat. If Ramsey stays fit for the whole season and helps Arsenal to the PL he'd probably win it this year though....

    a:
Pelle + Aguero + Costa with defence of Clyne-Baines-Moreno (or some other mid 5s guy) or

    b:
Aguero + Ulloa + Costa with defence of Clyne-Baines-Ivanovic (or any other defender really)

I played the UCL version and find it a bit overwhelming. Its just too many teams and players to keep track of, and even more so in the euro fantasy. FPL is more than enough.

    Would you transfer

Sterling and Welbeck for Auguero and Henderson. May seem an easy choice but..

This would mean I won't be able to get any Everton players over the next couple sweet fixtures.

    Suggestions, please.

    Bego
    Clyne Ivan PvA (Colo, Wisdom)
    Chadli AdM Siggy Sterling Fab
    Costa Pelle (Ulloa)

    1.9 ITB

Would you in the upcoming weeks do:

    A) Colo+Ulloa > Baines+Vardy and play 352 most games
    B) Sterling+Pelle > Aguero+Henderson
    C) Something else

Had I known Pieters price was going to fall last night I would have gotten rid of him! 🙁 Does anyone know what factors affect price changes this season? Is it still just transfers in and out?

http://totalfpl.com/pricechanges For future reference. Though I will say that Total Fpl hasn't been great to start the season but they are usually give you a decent idea.
