Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 7

Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was named in the starting XI to face City but was forced to withdraw prior to kick-off due to illness.

Burnley
Right-back Kieran Trippier is set to be assessed after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw at Leicester – after the match, Sean Dyche was hoping the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois was subbed off midway through the first-half of yesterday’s win over Arsenal due to a head injury. The club have since confirmed the keeper has been given the all-clear after undergoing precautionary tests and is expected to turn out for Belgium over the international break.

Crystal Palace
Scott Dann is set for knee scans after being forced off just 12 minutes into the weekend loss at Hull.

Everton
Steven Pienaar lasted just 64 minutes of the weekend loss at United before being forced off with a possible recurrence of the thigh injury that had kept him on the sidelines since Gameweek 2. John Stone was stretchered off at Old Trafford, with Roberto Martinez a little worried in his initial prognosis:

“It’s a ligament problem in his ankle. We are going to assess him in the next 48 hours. It’s such a massive blow because, as you have seen today, he plays with an incredible arrogance and great maturity. It’s not for me to say yet [whether he will be fit for England] because we need to get the medical department to assess him. But for him to come off, then I don’t expect John to be fully fit for next week.”

Hull
Ahmed Elmohamady was subbed off in the dying minutes of the weekend win over Palace due to injury.

Leicester City
Esteban Cambiasso missed out with a recurrence of a knock picked up at Palace last week. The Argentine had previously been passed fit by Nigel Pearson but was unable to make the squad for the 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Man City
Fernandinho will be assessed after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend win at Villa, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed post-match.

Man United
Luke Shaw was withdrawn midway through the second half of United’s win over Everton yesterday but after the match, the left-back revealed he expects to turn out for the upcoming internationals:

“It’s not a bad injury, it’s a dead leg on my knee. I felt it in the first 20 minutes when I got caught but it carried on during the game so I thought it was probably best to come off before it gets any worse. I spoke with the doctor and obviously the manager as well and both feel it’s best that I do go [with the England Under-21s] as it’s not an injury that is going to keep me out. Hopefully, I should be training in the next couple of days and can get another two games of 90 minutes each.”

Post-match, it was also revealed that Paddy McNair had suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory. The young defender was forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with reports claiming that he could be sidelined for three weeks.

Newcastle
Magpies right-back Daryl Janmaat has puled out of international duties for Holland after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend draw at Swansea.

Stoke City
After overcoming a thigh problem for the trip to Sunderland, Victor Moses was subbed off with a recurrence of the problem, with Mark Hughes explaining:

“Victor came off against Newcastle on Monday and we had him scanned. Nothing showed up and we were hoping that it was just a neural thing but he felt it almost immediately and had to come off. We lacked his drive and the purpose that he’s given us in recent games and although him going off disrupted us, it’s not an excuse as we should have been able to compensate for that.”

Sunderland
Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricardo Alvarez missed the 3-1 win over Stoke through injury and post-match, Gus Poyet admitted the duo, along with Seb Coates, “are going to be out for a while”.

Tottenham
Kyle Naughton was an early casualty in yesterday’s win over Southampton – the right-back was subbed off midway through the first period after sustaining an ankle injury as a result of a challenge from Ryan Bertrand.

Chadli and Agüero or Azpilicueta and Welbeck?
Wich pair is the most advisable one?
Defense is a bit plum and rest of the attack is:
Di Maria - Fabregas - Sterling - Siggy
    Costa - Pellé
Any advise would be much appreciated!

Or is Chadli coming in for one of your mids?

Thinking maybe for Sterling... in that case would be 3 4 3 as my 5th mid is Boyd

I'm up with the leaders in all my leagues, can't afford AGUERO and need a differential.

Thinking of doing Boyd & Sturridge for Zaha & Dzeko (-4)

        Yes, sorry!

        My team would the be:

        Krul (McCarthy)

        Clyne Lovren Azpil (Naylor, Moore)

        Siggy Fab Sterling ADM (Boyd)

        Costa Sturridge Welbeck

Sturridge and Aguero have similar ownsership at the moment. but i think most of the sturridge owners are dead teams. Could be a good differential, but Sturridge would have to find form fast

Would you start chopping and changing this side to get in ADM? I'm worried not owning him but like my side?

    Adrian
    Baines, Clyne, Naylor, Chambers, Moore
    Fabregas, Sterling, Tadic, Sigurdsson, Boyd
    Welbeck, Aguero, Costa

If Tadic doesn't perform next GW I'm thinking of just trading him for Chadli.

I think we are all in the same boat of only being able to have 5/6 of:

      Baines
      Fab
      Sterling
      ADM
      Aguero
      Costa

Just out of interest (having argument with a friend) what height would you consider 'tall' and what height would you consider 'very tall'?

Personally I would say 6'2 is tall, and anything over 6'7 very tall, but my mate is saying anything over 6ft is pretty tall and 6'3-4 very tall.

I'm 6'4 now and I can't say I feel 'very tall' at all, there are a loads of giants around nowadays and obviously you tower over some people but generally it feels pretty normal, for every 5'8 person there seems to be someone pushing 6'6 putting you in your place!

too many, would be rude to pick 1. things i'd never seen are always special, e.g di canio v wimbledon (RIP to the assist assister), le tissier v newcastle quickly followed by gascoigne v scotland, bergkamp v newcastle (still have no idea what he did yet completely trust that he meant it).
would also add andy cole v barcelona as the dummy is my favourite skill in football and i think that goal with the most brilliant example

Owens goal against Argentina was pretty mesmeric, I remember one from Essen in the CL a few hears ago for chelsea that was just a rocket. Think I bought him into my fpl team after that and was a disaster.

Owens goal against city is my favourite ever goal, I just ran round the house screaming when he tucked that in. Legend.

Danny roses was quite special as well a few years ago, was getting a lot of stick for his inclusion in the squad and he rifled in one or the sweetest volleys I ever seen...

Has anyone ever tried to stop playing FPL? Not saying that I don't enjoy it, it's just that it really spoils watching the Premier League week in week out, I never realised how big an impact FPL had until
I found myself cheering on City and being a bit annoyed de Gea saved a pen.

Could easily fill my Fantasy crave playing Fantasy NFL or something like that too.

I think it's better to give up FPL. Not many other hobbies can 'ruin' your weekend or make you cheer against your favorite team. Also, we are all addicted and being addicted to anything is usually not good.

I tried NBA fantasy one year but got addicted to that, too 😀 And it's even worse, a lot more games!

I think about FPL every day, I'll say at the dinner table with my family and all I'm thinking about whether Begovic to Adrián is a good move this week. Sad

I agree. I find it so annoying that I'm now watching West Ham-QPR and Stoke-Newcastle on TV as if its the most important thing in the world. Cheering for a Chelsea goal is infuriating as well, but thankfully I got rid of Rooney so don't have that problem with United.

I deleted my FPL account after the 2nd game week. Only started playing last year. You're right it does ruin the fun of watching football, puts you in a bad mood if you don't do well and it can get too addictive. Now I only play European qualifier fantasy as it's only 10 rounds over a couple of years and it's easier to win the prizes so that's cool.
If FPL is affecting you in a negative way as it did to me then yeah you should probably quit it.

Same. I wouldn't follow English football any more closely than La Liga if it weren't for FPL. Rather shamefully fantasy football has actually led me to follow the PL closer than my own country's league in many ways

FPL has actually increased my knowledge on the Premier League by leaps and bounds. I used to only bother about big matches, but now I watch as many as I can to scout for potential players.

It's addictive yes, but it also teaches you how to plan well and organize.

The one thing I've learnt is to not make decisions at the spur of the moment. That's why I never make earlier transfers regardless of prices changes. It's always good to take your time and decide.

      Sorry for the long post!

Am I crazy for having Berahino on my team? He rarely gets mentioned on here as a cheap 3rd forward as Naismith and Ulloa seem to get all the attention. After the United match he has CRY(H), LEI(a) and NEW(H)

    Bergovic
    Bertrand, Baines, Clyne
    Siggy, ADM, Fab, Sterling
    Aguerro, Costa, Berahino

    McCarthy, Duff, Taylor, Boyd

Most players are going for the Costa, Aguero, Mid-Price option, so choose the player you think will get you the most points. Think long term and realistically. He's been doing well, has got good fixtures and isn't worth the transfer out unless you think someone can take his place to do better.

Strangely, Rate My Team states that the following transfer would increase my team points by six points in the next six weeks...I'm not sure if I believe it. What do you think?

    Foster / Krul
    Ivanovic / Clyne / PvA / Coloccini / Lovren
    Ozil / Hazard / Tadic / Sterling / Siggy
    Costa / Naismith / Welbeck

    Trading:

    Moore > Ivan (or Baines)

    For -4 points.

    Mann, Guzan
    Hutton, Moreno, Baines, Chambers, Clyne
    ADM, Sterling, Siggy, Chadli, Downing
    Welbeck, Costa, Sturridge

the problem is I would be dropping Fabregas, Should I do it ?.

    What should I do ?

Hmm tough one. I'd actually consider swapping Moreno for likes of Wilson / PvA to give an extra mil. Maybe then Sterling > Fabregas.

Would be good to have Liverpool attack but Fab is better, could always get in Henderson for Chadli/Downing is he keeps scoring high.

Other than that, looks very nice!

That's what great now, likes of Chadli / Downing / Henderson are some of the high scoring midfielders despite the cheap price tags. Gives such more flexibility for strengthening elsewhere and in a sense breaks the mould of template teams.
