The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 8

Our Watchlist rankings, which offer player recommendations over the next four to six Gameweeks, have been updated over the last 24 hours.

Between the sticks, West Ham’s Adrian is on the up after collecting his first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 7. The Hammers face a trip to Burnley this weekend, and with their opponents having only scored in one of their last six, the 5.0-priced Spaniard could be set for further returns come Saturday afternoon. Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczesny also climbs the rankings due to Calum Chambers’ one-match suspension and the injury doubts hanging over Laurent Koscielny in the Gunners’ defence.

With excellent fixtures ahead for Arsene Wenger’s side (HUL, sun, BUR, swa), their backline looks set to prosper in spite of current form (it’s only one shut-out so far this season for a defence that accumulated 17 clean sheets last term), and Per Mertesacker – as their most nailed-on rearguard option right now – comes into our defensive standings as a result.

Joining team-mate Adrian in rising up our rankings is Hammers centre back James Tomkins, whose attacking threat has already earned his owners two assists up to this point. Across the way at Tottenham, meanwhile, Younes Kaboul climbs to just below Tomkins thanks to his kind fixtures from Gameweek 9 onwards (NEW, avl, STK, hul).

Jeffrey Schlupp is a new entry at the back thanks to his out-of-position prospects – the Leicester man is available for just 4.5 and was utilised on the left wing in the Foxes’ last league fixture, bagging his first goal of the season in the process. Another defender prospering due to their out-of-position status is Hull’s Andrew Robertson. Like Schlupp, he is on offer for just 4.5 ,and though his next three fixtures are rather tough (ars, liv, SOU), his strong form and position on the left of midfield in the Tigers’ 3-5-2 formation brings him into contention.

There is little movement in midfield, where Raheem Sterling holds on to the top spot, with Fantasy Premier League midfield frontrunners Gylfi Sigurdsson (sto, LEI, eve, ARS, mci) and Angel Di Maria (wba, CHE, mci, CRY, ars) only failing to climb due to their tricky schedules. The likes of Jordan Henderson (6.0), Saido Mane (6.9) and James Milner (5.3) continue to bubble under as mid-price differentials and cheaper alternatives to their team-mates further up the rankings – all three have strong fixtures to boost their points potential.

Daniel Sturridge is the big addition to our rankings up front. The Liverpool striker is likely to be eased back into action after recovering from a thigh injury, but as he proved against Southampton in Gameweek 1, needs little time to introduce himself. The 11.3-priced England man has enticing fixtures against QPR, Hull and Newcastle to find his feet and could prove an outstanding differential in the coming weeks.

Danny Welbeck is the main mover in our forward standings and now sits just below the template trio of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Sergio Aguero. Though he has picked up returns in one of his four appearances in an Arsenal shirt, the lack of clear options in the Gunners’ midfield right now ensures that Welbeck, at a mere 7.3, is their main attacking asset for the moment – reports indicate he’s set to return to training after shrugging off the knock picked up on England duty. Should Alexis Sanchez begin to justify his 10.3 price tag and Theo Walcott quickly readjust to life in the Premier League upon his return from injury next week, both are likely to be elevated in next week’s refresh.

    Latest from Belgrade:

Albanian football team refused for two hours to give to UEFA dutch delegat Hari Bin flying drone which they took from the field. UEFA delegat took the flag of WW II fascist puppet state Greater Albania and it will be used for evidence.

It has been officialy confirmed that the man who was controlling the drone was Olsi Rama, brother of Albanian prime minister, US citizen and he and several other people have been arrested. The remote controler was found on him.

Also. Serbian FA spokesman stated that UEFA insisted that the game continues after the incident, UEFA delegat and referee agreed, as did the Serbian team and they came on the pitch afterwards, but the Albanian team refused to continue "because they couldnt concentrate on the game".

Yes, for reacting to a poxy flag by attacking football players with flares and plastic seats. Human beings are generally perfectly capable of perspective - provocation of any sort does not exempt people from acting with humanity or civility, and does not justify mob violence. Get a god damn grip.

Ok, so let me understand. Suarez calling Cole what he called him deserves a ban and flying flags of WWII fascist countries that participated in killing of milions of civilians is ok? Hipocrisy.

You, young man, have apparently lost all sense of rationality. It is perfectly possible for two parties involved in an incident to each accept some blame... but two wrongs neither make a right nor exempt the latter party from punishment.

Nobody has excused the individual behind the flag his actions, nor suggested he should avoid punishment. But nor does that excuse the behaviour of some of the fans at the stadium, so please stop the handwringing.

I dont say that beating people is ok.

How would you react if someone waved a fascist flag of the country that has killed your grandfather in an concentration camp on your national stadium in front of you?

    http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/relief-for-arsene-wenger-as-danny-welbeck-escapes-arsenals-injury-curse-9793924.html

"Koscielny’s Achilles problem will be carefully managed with the Gunners facing three games in eight days including a Champions League trip to Anderlecht. Koscielny is expected to be rotated with Wenger mindful of the schedule, and given Calum Chambers is suspended against Hull, Nacho Monreal could come in at centre-back with Hector Bellerin at right-back."

"Wenger is keen not to rush back Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry. The pair have both returned to full training with Walcott thought to be keen to take his place on the substitutes’ bench against Hull but Wenger wants to ensure neither he nor Gnabry suffer any setbacks and is expected to hold them back. They could play some part in Arsenal’s Under-21 home game against Blackburn on Friday with a first-team return unlikely until the Gunners’ trip to Sunderland on Saturday week."

      Bellerín is in my squad...

If he plays well against Hull which I believe he will Wenger will rest Kos and pair him with Chambers. Don´t count out Isaac Hayden either who will impress if unleashed, Wenger appears to have confidence in him, and only needs an excuse. Hayden can play midfield as well, utility at his core, but has strength with sophistication in his movement wherever his his heat map may be.

Nacho may be a better CB than LB, we cringe as the battle is displayed between his confidence and ability on the left..he and Giroud would do well with an early summer track camp at Michael Johnson Performance, in McKinney, Texas...although the list of footballers that would be stars with 0.2 seconds added on their 40...but I´ve seriously digressed here...

Does anyone else feel that the more you get to understand FPL the less confident you feel about giving advice? I don't think it's all luck--far from it--but experience shows that individual gameweek decisions can go so differently from what we expect. The more I see how it works, the less comfortable I am saying, "you should get in player X over player Y". That doesn't mean advice is impossible to give but that, for me, there are increasingly fewer questions to which I am prepared to give a firm answer. Thoughts?

    Clyne Duff Bertrand

    Sterling Siggy Fabby Di Maria

    Costa (c) Ulloa Aguero

Anyone able to talk me into giving Aguero the armband over Costa? Spurs could take a pasting, Palace stubborn?

Palace Stubborn? They've conceded 12 goals in seven this season. Spurs have conceded 8. Chelsea have scored 21 in 7, to city's 15.

Table's are due to turn though? Aguero may be too risky. Sitting, 8,000 overall - don't really need to take the risk.

Meh. I've got Dzeko, who's scored more goals vs Tottenham than any other prem team (helped by four in a 4-0 during his first season, admittedly) but don't suspect that City'll run riot.

All for a punt though - go with your gut.

Thoughts on the following much appreciated:

    Mannone, 4.0
Ivan, Clyne, Duff, Moore, N Taylor
    Fab, Dyer, Sig, ADM, Sterling
    Falcao, Costa, Ulloa

    a) Dyer+Ulloa out for Naismith+ Mane
    b) Taylor+Dyer+Ulloa out for Naismith+Boyd+Baines
    c) dyer+Ulloa out for Boyd+Welbeck/Pelle

    2FT, 1.0m in bank

probably two clean sheers in there? Its only the Burnley game that lights the eyes up, the three away games not easy, all those sides good at home

Captain overview for this upcoming gameweek...

Di Maria(WBA): So far WBA have proven to have a tight defense. Definitely not enough to stop this attack but believe there is better captain options this week. The game will be played on monday as well. Patience comes in to play... 😀

Aguero: Aguero is Aguero. Although i do not have him, I certainly would consider him. Up against spurs who have given up 2 goals in the last 3 games. Flashbacks from last year appear:D BLOWOUT!

Costa: Not captaining Costa can costa lot lol. He's DC. Excellent form as we all know, and up against Crystal palace who have allowed 4 goals in there last 3 games. Not including the 3 they gave up to newcastle in the capital one cup. I expect a huge performance from him, possibly a brace;D

Only doing those three for the week, cheers!

Hazard: After a wonderful performance against Arsenal, Haz is ready to explode against a CPL side who's conceded 12 goals already. Hazard was also rested due to "injury" so he is now at 200% fitness compared to Costa, Aguero, Di Maria and the likes. Crystal Palace won't stop this Chelsea team, their levels aren't comparable.

Ramsey for Lukaku in my draft game. Baring in mind I have Walcott, is this a good move as I need a decent third striker?

None on the table I'm afraid. Everybody else has strikers you could possibly want to have in your team. They are not willing to trade them up though. I'd much prefer Lukaku to say, Bony or one of the West Ham strikers.

Trying to decide which two of the following to bring in: Tadic, Mane, Chadli, Hendo, Downing. Thinking of doubling on the Southampton lads as it seems like it will be fun to own them during their upcoming kind run, but maybe it is smarter to choose one and diversify? Any input appreciated!

Cheaper, more exciting to watch, more of a differential, more open play goal threat (IMO)... If he didn't miss that sitter against Tottenham everyone would be trying to get him in. There aren't much between the two really, it kinda comes down to personal preference.

Really? I mean he hasn't been translating the stats into points but it doesn't seem the time to take soton players out of your team even though Chadli has a kind run himself after the City fixture.

Yeah I could see it, but I could see this past game just as easily being a blip on his radar of continuous 2 pointers for the next handful of games. Tough to trust him as his ability to roam forward into the box and go on runs seems to change almost at a game to game basis on what BR tells him his responsibilities are on that given day.

Welbeck - Will play if fit, but is he surely fit?

Costa - Played two games for spain, any chance of him being rested against "easy" crystal palace? His hamstrings look okay these days though.
