The Big Numbers – Gameweek 8

With West Brom and Man United set to see out the Gameweek tomorrow, we delve into the data from the nine matches played so far. Unsurprisingly, Man City, Southampton and West Ham’s in-form front men are on this evening’s agenda, whilst we also cast an eye over a couple of improving north London-based midfielders.

You really aren't keen on Tadic?

I truly can't think of a better mid to own when factoring price against those key underlying stats.

I don't think there's a better choice *stats* per million than him at the moment.

Nah, nothing against Tadic. Just confused how he's getting bought in by so many people now after his big haul. Nobody labelled him essential before the massive haul against a really abject side in Sunderland. People were frustrated with his output, and now he's become the most sought after mid.

Funny, I got him a few weeks ago & was *fine* with the assist here & clean sheet point there. For 7.5 what more could I ask for? Just turn out some returns & let the Costa's & Aguero's do the heavy lifting. 😉

I must say, was over joyed when I found out he was on pens during their midweek game a while back...

Although, I do understand that the overreaction here is a bit much, & will be equally as stupid when he doesn't score 20+ pts next week.

Looking forward to the stream of "Lolz @ Tadic owners" comments.

Indeed, perfectly happy with people like yourself owning him, and fair play on not selling like others did. You deserved his haul, and like you say, he just needs to turn out decent returns and let the big guns do their stuff. It's just the overreaction which i'm getting it. Pens a great appeal to him. I just have no room right now, and happy enough with Pelle on his own. Tadic could do well in the next three, but fixtures are about to stiffen up so from my point of view, no real rush to get him in on the back of the Sunderland game.

GW13+ will get ugly for Southampton in general, & those who have Forster & Clyne may be in an even worse spot.

Four game weeks until Southampton are facing this run: MCI, ars, MUN, bur, EVE, cry, CHE, ARS, mun.

Probably worth bearing that in mind if you're thinking about replacing quality midfielders with Tadic or doubling/tripling up on Southampton. These may be short term purchases...

I'm considering a series of gradual fundraising transfers to fund Pelle>Costa around this time frame. I had a lucky strike by executing Costa>Aguero Friday night. I want Costa back in, but it will take time (my WC is gone). I may miss out on CHE v QPR as a result of this activity, but Aguero's explosion was a nice reward.

We really have to have this out about Costa.

He's just this guy, right? He has scored a lot but there is no way he is the fulcrum that moves the world. (A) Never having had Costa is OK: lots of players have scored goals consistently, like Sakho, Pelle, and now Aguero. (B) Dropping him is not madness. He costs a lot of money and if you expect him not to play it is not foolish to drop him for someone who will play (and score). Everyone wants to talk about ho hard it will be to get him back in, but if you bought him late, he is not likely to cost more next week than what you sold him for the week before. So this whole "OMG you dropped Costa/don't have him, what are you going to do" thing is about people who had him from the beginning and believe their entire success is bound to Costa. Get over it. He is just this guy.

*I did not have him until after his hat-trick and have been playing catch-up ever since 😳

agreed. but he scores lots of goals and his team look like they'll win the league, scoring a fair amount of goals in the process.

I must admit it was you who inspired this rant. Frankly I agree with you, and I am already working out how I get him back for QPR, but I just can't get behind the whole idea that to drop him is some kind of fever symptom.

i'm all for bold decisions and all that, but unless you know he's injured, i think it's too big a risk to sell, especially as the honeybadger says - he's very high ownership, and you may be left behind.

      • 9 Years

The thing with Costa is his enormous ownage percentage, if you don't have him and he scores well you'll prob be dropping a lot...

        • 11 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

This is what gives him such power over people's minds, but if you drop him briefly (or don't have him) in order to play someone else who scores just as well, then you're fine. It's the same argument with all "essential" players: there is a risk, but it is not madness to think someone else might get you as many points. Costa, at least before this week, was the safest bet. But there were always others, and this week the bet just got less risky.

        1. Puncheon Debuchery
          • 14 Years

I think the key point is he's very droppable, BUT only, if as you say, you've only gotten him in late as you did, GW6.

If, like me, you've had him since GW1, then to drop him (short term), and then go to get him back in again, i will lose 0.4m.

I would rather bench him and call in a sub, than spend 0.4m, particularly this season when building team value is so bloody hard.

for what its worth, unless he picks up a long term injury, then imo, he is a season long keeper. The undisputed first choice striker in the team that is going to win the league.

Had the same front line as you and 3/4 mids (Tadic instead of ADM). Could've done Costa > Aguero for free too, but chose to drop Welbeck for him and downgrade Terry to a cheapie. In your case I'd do ADM & Welbeck > Tadic & Aguero, but maybe that's just me. I simply think dropping Costa is a bad idea.

So is it time to ditch Hazard or what?

One of the most skilled players in the league, yet just lacking the returns 🙁

Was looking at his stats earlier from the Palace game and he's getting a hell if a lot of touches deep into the opponent's final third and penalty box. Fabregas however, seems to be creating more and it's clearly working from an FPL perspective 😕

Just seems to be one of those players recently that has the stats, but not getting the points.

    A Tadic-esque haul incoming?

Hazard will probably have 1-2 big games soon. I'd guess QPR and West Brom, both home games in the next 4.

Over the course of the season Fab will probably score a bit more points, but never big hauls. Haz will have the occasional big haul, imo

Repost - stuck on the bottom. Considering freeing up funds for eventual move back to Costa after shipping him for Aguero Friday night (I plan to keep Kun). Also don't like the looks of Liverpool. Thoughts on the following?

    1) Sterling >

    C) Chadli
    E) Eriksen
    T) Tadic

    2) Moreno >

    C) Chambers
    D) Dawson
    R) Rose (or Kaboul, I suppose)
    T) Tomkins

I already have Naylor, the other obvious suspect in this price bracket. Thanks for weighing in.

Coming from someone sitting on a pretty 36 who nearly got in Aguero and Baines. Be happy. Be very happy.

I keep looking at what rank I would have had had I still owned Tadic.

But I guess, I should also look at what rank i'd be had i not captained Aguero etc!

Different crowd bit of a repost but buck it why not.

    Vito
    N.Taylor Toby Vlaar
    Siggy ADM Sterling Fabregas
    Aguero Pelle Costa

    bench: Hamer Wilson Rio Albrighton

Defence looking weak, might have to move Vito on as a priority, I'd like to have Baines but it'd cost me a big mid which I dunno about. Views? 0.0itb 1ft.

I think you should hold your free transfer this week and possibly use two free transfers to improve your defence . Swansea have tough fixtures , QPR are useless and Villa do not look as solid as before

Getting rid of ADM + Welbeck to fund Aguero,

    Good move?

ADM has City Arsenal and Chelsea in next 4, will get him back after

    Leaving a front 8 of:

    Haz Fab Sterling Siggy
    Pelle Aguero Costa

Welbeck --> Good fixtures, inform. People don't take him seriously enough because of his poor form at Utd.

ADM --> Inform and Utd don't seem to struggle to score. I'd see what he does this week. Might be hard for you to drop him if he performs really well.

Triple Chelsea seems a bit much. Drop Hazard?

Think I can afford to give it one more day, see how Falcao does tomorrow night and then decide who is making way for Aguero.
