Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

Liverpool require two own goals to get the better of QPR, as Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard bag an assist apiece. Eduardo Vargas scores twice for the R’s, Wilfried Bony and Charlie Adam both notch for the second consecutive Gameweek, whilst Victor Moses produces an assist for the fourth league match in succession for Stoke.

Balotelli Fails to Convince
Brendan Rodgers recalled Mario Balotelli to the starting XI in the lone striker role for the QPR clash, but witnessed another wasteful display as his side needed two own goals to beat the basement-dwellers. With frustration amongst the Reds’ faithful now palpable, the situation up front is a far cry from Liverpool’s fluid and threatening forward line of 12 months ago. To compound matters, Rodgers confirmed post-match that Daniel Sturridge is set be sidelined for the next two to four weeks with a calf injury, putting the onus on Balotelli to produce if the Reds are to take full advantage of a kind schedule which see them face Hull, Newcastle, Palace, Stoke and Leicester in the next six.

Sterling’s Still Ticking Over
Despite a multitude of concerns surrounding Raheem Sterling’s fitness after his recent international duties, Liverpool’s starlet played the full 90 minutes at Loftus Road and earned an assist and two bonus points. Whilst the Reds’ forwards may be toiling, the winger has now scored or assisted in five of his last seven starts and sits just two points off the top of the FPL midfield standings. Though Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard threw their hats into the ring with attacking returns yesterday, Sterling still looks the likeliest source of points across those aforementioned fixtures.

Super Sub Vargas Bags A Brace
The Chilean climbed off the bench to score twice for Harry Redknapp’s side in a 12-minute cameo that should see him press for a starting role for QPR’s home encounter with Aston Villa in Gameweek 9. Vargas has now produced two goals, an assist and three bonus points across his last couple of appearances, though at 6.4 still looks too big a punt in a side who have lost four of their last five league outings. The Hoops have five strong fixtures in their next seven (AVL, new, LEI, swa, BUR) that could help turnaround their fortunes, though despite making changes at the back and between the posts, Harry Redknapp’s defence continues to look there for the taking– yesterday’s loss means they have now conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven league matches.

Bony’s Form Looking Up
Yesterday’s penalty strike means the Ivorian now has back-to-back goals to his name, and is finally starting to find his form ahead of an enticing home clash with Leicester next weekend. Available for 8.3 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Bony struggled in the early stages of this season, but his starting spot now looks secure, and with Swansea not having won since Gameweek 3, his rediscovered eye for goal could prove key if they are to turn their fortunes around. However, the Swans’ following three fixtures after the Foxes meeting (eve, ARS, mci) may well deter investors until Gameweek 13.

Sigurdsson On The Slide
His performance against the Potters saw the playmaker leave the field early after serving up a fourth blank in the last five Gameweeks, as his early-season consistency certainly shows signs of waning. Sigurdsson’s recent international displays, allied with his 10-point haul in Gameweek 7, had many hoping he would be able to produce against Mark Hughes’ men, but a total of just nine successful passes in the final third and no shots registered was indicative of his minimal impact. With his form floundering and so many other midfield options flourishing right now, some may consider looking elsewhere once the Leicester game is out of the way.

Stoke Midfield Hit Their Stride
Victor Moses was again in the points yesterday after controversially winning his side’s first-half penalty. That’s now four assists in the Nigerian’s last four appearances, though, despite a favourable 5.5 price tag, he continues to bubble under with an ownership of just 0.4%. It was Charlie Adam who stepped up to take the spot kick and, though he had dropped deeper to cover for the absence of Glen Whelan, the Scot’s penalty-taking duties have ensured he has now netted in each of his last two outings. With Oussama Assaidi and Jon Walters also in the points for the Potters yesterday, their midfield is starting to show some appeal, though managers should be wary that they face a dire upcoming schedule (sou, WHM, tot, BUR , liv, mun, ARS) with those two home encounters looking the only attractive fixtures right now.

Great news and nothing about 3 weeks absence:

"Costa is out of Tuesday's Champions League Group G clash with Maribor and has a slight chance of returning in Sunday's Premier League clash at Manchester United.

Mourinho added: "Maribor, no chance. Man United, very little. But, very little."

Definately enough for me to keep.

If I do drop him it will be Costa + Naylor > Pelle and Baines. As IMO Baines and Pelle likely to outscore a fit costa and Naylor over the next few weeks at least

    Baines, Clyne, Chambers, Ferdinand, Hutton
    ADM, Fabrigas, Sterling, Siggy, Henderson
    Costa, Pelle, Welbeck

Welbeck & Sterling to Aguero & Boyd 0-4, worth it?

Would then play Hendo & Siggy each week or are there better moves to get Aguro and keep Costa?

West Ham look brilliant for now and are more likely to keep up a good run than Leicester. I don't feel the Welbeck admiration for now, I'd rather spend more and get Pelle.

I'd hold JT for one more week at least, too, seeing as Jose loves a cleanie in a big game. United are defensively suspect, and from corners too, so JT could be in with a shout for a goal.

Yeah, I bought Terry thinking he's usually good for 3 or 4 goals a season, but I was expecting plenty of clean sheets from Jose as well.

Ulloa dropped last night so I've got a bit of time to think about it.

Ulloa was a prime candidate for regression having scored with nearly half his shots! Sakho does not fall into this category currently. Some regression is possible/likely but basically his stats bode well.

Although if you look past the trolling and look at Baines... he does give quite a few problems up front with the Costa/Aguero dilemma since they've got investments at the back.

Some might be faced with the dilemma, what's more important, having Baines or having both Costa + Aguero? Of course some are able to get all three, but some might be sitting with Baines and just one of Costa/Aguero...

I can't just seem to find a way to sell Moreno, any given week. Selling him to get Baines needs a -4, while I could easily save my FT.

    Hey guys! How's it going?

Pondering over my team... currently I'm between saving FT and Haz -> Sanchez. I want to ditch Caulker, but AVL have stopped scoring and QPR looked like they were at least TRYING last game, even though it worked out pretty badly I think they can take some positives away from that game... or am I wrong? 😀 Either way my defense is pretty good for the next few weeks. Not really interested in moving Costa as things stand.

    Bego
    Clyne Bert Caulker
    Haz Sterling Tadic Siggy
    Aguero Costa Welbz

    x Chambers Duff Marney. 1FT 0.7M ITB.

Yeah I like it a lot if you look at fixtures and longer term points potential...

So it's about weighing up the other options, which is basically saving, fixing Caulker (again, defense is okay so I can just bench him) or doing something to Costa... neither of those 3 seems very high priority.

I have no idea what to do with this lot after a great score

    Foster (krul)

    Baines - caulker - Clyne
    Fab - sterling - chadli - siggy
    Costa - pelle (vc) - Aguero (c)

    Cork, wisdom, Hutton

    .2 inB
    2 FT

Caulker to chambers seems like a bad move for some reason, I feel caulker has a good run and will score. Siggy has 1 more week for me...'waiting on news of Costa.

    My back up option is

Krul > Guzan for long term rotation for keepers

Any thoughts greatly appreciate, will happily give feedback on other teams if people post them in replies

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/11174113/Diego-Costa-misses-Chelsea-training-ahead-of-Champions-League-clash-with-Maribor.html

      He said all this:

Costa is out of Tuesday's Champions League Group G clash with Maribor and has a slight chance of returning in Sunday's Premier League clash at Manchester United.

Mourinho added: "Maribor, no chance. Man United, very little. But, very little."

              Probably voting decides.
Same as the Community Picks here. Rather win on the best team then spamming a site with votes. This site probably has the most traffic so that is a good indication.

    Henderson or Sterling?

If I get henderson I can accommodate Baines into my team but I know for a fact that Sterling is gonna outscore Henderson.

    Question about sigurdsson:

After this week who would you replace him with if you brought him for 6m - selling value 6.4m ?

    1)Downing
    2)Chadli
    3) Or some one else?
    4) Or bench him until the fixtures improve

I thought he was excellent this weekend. Not much in terms of goal threat, but in terms of creativity he's looking like the (by far) most likely to be involved.

I wouldn't buy Aguero. Not a differential anymore, not proven he can consistently deliver, and his hammie is getting weaker and weaker. Get him at your own risk.

you can use the winter one then use the other wildcard shortly after. If it is done correctly it could net you a lot of points particularly before and after a double gameweek.
Before a big DGW there will be a lot of players who will not play one week then play the next.
