Champions League 2014/15 – FantasyiTeam Matchday 3 Picks

As you may know by now, we’ve joined forces with Fantasy iTeam (FiT) for this season’s Champions League campaign. Having supported their popular World Cup game, we’ve teaming up once again to cover Europe’s elite club competition and with Matchday 3 only hours away – due to City’s early match in Moscow at 5pm GMT– we’re back with out latest round of picks for your perusal.

A free Fantasy football app, FiT is available on a number of mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android. It’s free to download and play, so you can already go in and start drafting up your starting XI, with unlimited transfers right up until 10 minutes before this evening’s first kick-off.

We’re supporting FiT throughout the competition and have an official Fantasy Football Scout League, with an iPad mini available to the winner. There’s also a VIP European Match Day Experience for two on offer for the overall winner of the Fantasy iTeam Champions League game.

Having rolled out a Rule Guide and taken a look at some of the best budget options in the player price list, we now get to grips with the upcoming schedule and offer four player tips for the next two evening’s matches.

Tuesday

Chelsea’s home clash with Maribor looks filled with potential this evening. With Diego Costa sidelined due to his ongoing hamstring injury and Didier Drogba still edging his way back to full fitness, Loic Remy (priced at 7.9m) seems likely to keep his starting place as the lone striker as Jose Mourinho searches for a first home win of the campaign.

Buoyed by their win over Barcelona last time around, Paris Saint Germain roll up to APOEL Nicosia in confident mood. Star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains out with a heel injury but Laurent Blanc can call upon Edinson Cavani to hopefully do the business – the Uruguayan netted his fourth league goal of the season last weekend and sets you back 9.1m.

The Catalans, meanwhile, need to bounce back from their defeat in Paris as Ajax make their way to the Nou Camp. Luis Enrique’s side will be hoping the Matchday 2 defeat was no more than a temporary blip as he looks to replicate the resilient displays that have racked up eight back-to-back clean sheets in La Liga. Opting for one of their raiding full-backs could be a canny tactic, then, with Dani Alves (6.4m) warming up for this one with an assist against Eibar at the weekend.

Having drawn their opening two Group D matches, Schalke are in need of a victory at home to Sporting Lisbon to boost their prospects. Roberto di Matteo’s side have picked up in form in recent weeks and have won three of their last four in the Bundesliga – Julian Draxler grabbed a goal and assist in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin and looks an enticing midfield option at 7.0m.

Wednesday

Group A looks perfectly poised right now with all four teams sitting on three points apiece. Having seen off Juventus at home last time around, Atletico Madrid will fancy their chances of triumphing in front of their own fans once again and playmaker Koke looks vital to their prospects – the youngster has already served up a goal and five assists in the league this season and comes in at a kind 7.0m.

In Group B, underdogs Ludogorets have narrowly lost by just one goal to Liverpool and Real Madrid in their first two fixtures. A home clash with Basel gives the Bulgarians the chance to rack up their first win of the tournament and having scored against the holders in the previous Matchday, Marcelino (5.0m) was amongst the goals at the weekend and looks in fine form for tomorrow’s match.

After eight Gameweeks of the German domestic campaign, only Bayern Munich have scored more goals than Bayer Leverkusen. Roger Schmidt’s side look full of attacking potential right now and offer us a number of in-form options at home to Zenit St Petersburg – none more so than Heung-Min Son, who grabbed two goals and an assist in the weekend draw at Stuttgart. The South Korean looks excellent value this week and is priced at just 7.3m in the FiT game.

With just two goals conceded in their last seven matches across all competitions, Monaco’s defence could be worth considering at home to Benfica. Left-back Layvin Kurzawa offers plenty going forward down the flank – the 22-year-old has created more scoring opportunities than any other team-mate in the league this term and also offers a threat from distance. Setting you back just 5.1m, he could be a real bargain.

Fantasy Football Scout League

We’ve already set up an official Fantasy Football Scout league for you to join, with an iPad mini on offer to the winner – the league name is Fantasy Football Scout and the pin is 11155.

So, in basic terms his output is declining slightly!
Those extra minutes aren't exactly raking in the points.
However, he stays in my team.... alongside Long.

So. I just had a look at my team, and it still looks like in limbo.
Not entirely happy, not bad enough to WC.

    Begovic, Hamer,
    Moreno, Clyne, Hutton, PVA, Coloccini,
    Sterling, ADM, Tadic, Sigurdsson, Davis,
    Aguero, Costa, Welbeck.

So. I want Sanchez, Barkley and Baines, but there's not really any way without a hit.

So. If ADM and Costa are fit indeed, save?

        * Don't like my keepers.
        * Don't like my defenders bar Clyne.
        * Don't like my fifth mid, already dropped from 5 to 4.8

And well, what do you think about Alcaraz or Chambers?

Arsenal defence is a shambles and can see them conceding in quite a few of their next games. Alcaraz ain't nailed enough, will fight with Distin I'm sure.

I don't see Barcelona scoring more than 2-3 goals tonight. I think it could likely be a 1-0 or 2-0 win TBH.

CSKA will run Man City closer but there will be goals at both ends I think. Man City/Aguero could easy score two.

    Thoughts on the following transfers:

This week = PvA & AdM > Baines & Tadic for free

Next week = Sigurdsson > Eriksen

    Krul // Elliot
    Baines // Clyne // Hutton // Moore // Wisdom
    Boyd // Fabregas // Eriksen // Sterling // Tadic
    Aguero // Costa // Pelle

    Bank = 0

    1. Darth_Newdar
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Definitely Baines and Eriksen are good options. Not so convinced by Tadic, but I suppose there's nobody really better in that price range.

    This is my current team:

    Forster / Heaton
    Bertrand / Kaboul / N Taylor / Duff / Moore
    Silva / Sterling / Mata / Sigurdsson / Arfield
    Aguero / Costa / Pellé

What should I do this week (1FT, 0.0 in the bank)? I think I should probably sell Mata - he was a short-term punt while Rooney was out, hasn't delivered yet, and is unlikely to against Chelsea this week. So should I:

    A) Mata --> Eriksen
    B) Mata and Silva --> Fabregas and Eriksen (-4)
    C) Hold

In order to get aguero in

    Costa - Aguero
    ADM - Eriksen
    Ulloa - Berahino

8 point hit. Any thoughts? Anyone know how bad di marias injury was?

    1. big oak
      • 14 Years
      9 years, 8 months ago

maybe it is worth waiting on costa and dimaria before starting to throw hits in the air
the midweek will be a good indicator for costa (if on the bench then he will start the weekend)

the return of some players will definitely shake the templates soon
barkely is first followed by rooney walcott sturridge and finally giroud and united defense
also to be in consideration soon is city defence and nasri
so a lot of strugglers can still hope for better days

Hola, have gotten some great advices here the last couple of weeks and got myself up to 320. Was all set on going against the herd and get Moreno. Glad you talked me into Baines....

So what now, do you start playing safe when you have high ranking. Not used to not chasing:)

    Bego
    Bertrand, Chambers/Wisdom, Baines
    Sterling, Siggy, Chadli, ADM
    Pelle, Costa, Aggie.

    Which one?

Chambers - £4.6m for an Arsenal defender is great value and Arsenal manage to keep clean sheets against the smaller teams

      Chambers.

A nailed-on Arsenal defender for 4.6, and our defence can't really get worse.

guys, what do you think about Handanovic/Roberto GK pairing? unlikely to get many points, but are there even any similary priced options (+0.5) that are worth taking a hit for?

I don't think worth taking a hit. You will at least get an extra one or two points for saves most likely with that pair. 4 pointer from keeper is fine.

TFF, posted this earlier in response, what do you think?

    Krul (Begovic)
    Baines Clyne Taylor (chambers, wisdom)
    Siggy Tadic Sterling Fabregas (downing)
    Costa Pelle Welbeck

    0ft 3.7itb

Just need to find some use for that 3.7, so I was thinking of Taylor>Coleman or downing>Barkley, or Siggy>adm(0.1 short atm)

    Any ideas?

Siggy has some tough fixtures coming up so I can afford Siggy>Walcott or Ramsey 🙂 not sure on selling Siggy though as he's central to everything Swansea do in attack

Taylor -> Everton defense sounds wise!
      Not the two other options.
      Barkley=Wait and see
      ADM=Not now (wait 4 weeks)

Yeah adm would only be in a few weeks time for sure. Hopefully his price can drop until then

Not too keen on spending more than 5.6 on my 5th mid either, but it would solve some fixture conundrums

Really need some good advice here...
I have several (2-3) players I want in, but can't see who to throw out.
Guess I have a pretty OK team, but a bit unbalanced.

    Mannone - Heaton
    Clyne - Chambers - N. Taylor - Wisdom - Duff
    ADM - Fabregas - Sterling - Siggy - Marney
    Costa - Aguero - Pelle

2 free transfers and 0.6 in the bank.

    Thanks!

You might be in trouble in goal... Sunderlands fixtures are dreadful, and double-up on Burnley is dangerous right now too

I would use the 0.6 to get Forster in for Heaton. It would solve your unbalance

If we don't get any positive news about Costa's "injury" till thursday he is out from my team. Sick of these Mourinho's "mind games".

Latest report doesn't sound good. Doubt he would be risked against United although it is big game for them.

"The Portuguese explained: “It’s the same problem he’s been having. Now it’s an injury, not an almost-injury.

“It’s simple. He’s now not training because he is not in condition to do it."

    1. S.Kuqi
      • 11 Years

He also said "“Tomorrow he cannot play. Let’s see what happens next week but next week is not important, tomorrow is important.”
