Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 9

We now have six players balancing on this week’s Suspension Tightrope after Gameweek 9’s fixtures afforded us four new entries. The most popular Fantasy asset sitting just one booking away from a single-match ban is Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas, who earned his fourth caution of the campaign in Sunday’s draw at United.

After collecting just a single yellow in the opening five Gameweeks, the 53%-owned playmaker has incurred the referee’s wrath in three of his last four league matches, and with clashes against QPR, Sunderland and West Brom in the next four, his owners will be praying he can steer clear of further misdemeanours.

Also picking up a fourth booking of the season last weekend was Everton’s Steven Naismith, along with midfield battlers Lee Cattermole and Craig Gardner. Whilst the latter pair have minimal ownership, Naismith sits in 25% of Fantasy Premier League teams, and after netting just once in the last six, looks to be on his last chance for many, with both Saido Berahino and Diafra Sakho offering excellent alternatives in the budget bracket.

This week’s new arrivals join Phil Bardsley and Winston Reid on the Tightrope, then, though Branislav Ivanovic owners can breathe a sigh of relief despite his sending off at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Serbian will serve a one-match ban during Chelsea’s Capital One Cup clash with Shrewsbury this evening and will be available for selection at home to QPR next Saturday.

Also free from suspension for Gameweek 10 is Wayne Rooney, who returns from a three-match enforced absence in time for Sunday’s Manchester derby. The United skipper is nursing a foot problem sustained in training, though, and is rated a doubt for the Etihad showdown.

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, Tottenham centre-half Federico Fazio and Palace defender Damien Delaney also return to action, with the trio having served one-match bans last weekend.

This leaves Cesar Azpilicueta as the only player currently sidelined through suspension. The Chelsea defender misses tonight’s Shrewsbury showdown and Saturday’s home encounter with the R’s before returning to the fray in time for the league leaders’ Gameweek 11 visit to Anfield.

the benefit of getting a yellow card tonight is that while he would miss QPR, he's then back for Liverpool and also get a few extra days of rest ahead of CL

    Rp from previous post:

Hi everyone, thinking of activating my WC. Am doing fairly well (first in ML, 23k overal rank), although there's some dead weight I want out. Also I feel changing to the team I have in mind could pay off lots. Thing is, its only 6 changes from my current team...

WC, yes or no ? Would appreciate an answer, preferably argumented 🙂 Thanks in any case!

6 changes are worth a WC. but it depends how essential are the players you plan to replace.
I was considering using the WC this week as well, but then when i had a closer look found out the only relevant changes I was making were getting baines at the expense of cahill and bertrand and shipping out siggy for mane.
      Decided it's not worth.

The general logic is that if it's 4 or more changes, it's time to wildcard. You're the best judge of how essential your changes are, but if it's 6 changes that will help you now (and you don't want to phase them in), it's worth the wildcard.

did anyone see the saints game at the weekend? did Mane look good aside from his goal (and was it at the expense of Tadic)? Is he only in the team due to injuries or is he staking a place permanently (has played the past few games now)?

Only seen the highlights, but he looked quite good and dangerous, but so did Tadic. And I think Mane should be first choice, he was only rested against Sunderland because he had just gotten back from international duty. It will be interesting to see how Southampton line up when Jay Rodriguez is back, but that's a ways off.

Interesting. By reputation of the two players, that makes sense. Tadic is going to see a lot of the ball and create a lot of opportunities for others, as well as have a lot of shots. Mane's more direct and going to try to get behind the defense.

Aston Villa paid £24m on Darren Bent

Must go down as one of the worst ever transfers

      Nope.

CPL, HUL and STO in the next five. You'd want him for those fixtures.

We're told Luis Suarez on top 60 Ballon d'Or list. Failed to make top 23 after voters assessed performances and behaviour on/off pitch.
