The Weekend Team News

Jack Wilshere is a big doubt for Arsenal’s home clash with Burnley, who welcome back Dean Marney into midfield. West Ham’s Diafra Sakho is in with a chance of lining up against the Potters. Brendan Rodgers rules out Jose Enrique against Newcastle, who themselves could be without forward Papiss Cisse. Sadio Mane is set to return to training as he bids to prove his fitness ahead of Southampton’s KC clash, while the FA rescind Federico Fernandez’s three-match ban ahead of Swansea’s trip to Everton.

Arsene Wenger is “quite confident” Kieran Gibbs will overcome a hip problem in time for tomorrow’s visit of Burnley. The Gunners boss expects Jack Wilshere to miss out with a “very, very short-term” knee problem, whilst he also went on to confirm Theo Walcott is “not completely ready” and won’t start against the Clarets.

Sam Allardyce has revealed that Diafra Sakho is “touch and go” for the weekend, after injuring his shoulder during the win over Man City. Allardyce confirmed the Hammers will monitor the forward’s condition before Saturday, whilst James Tomkins and Matt Jarvis have recovered from their injuries and will make a return to the squad.

Jose Enrique will miss the reunion against former club Newcastle, with Brendan Rodgers confirming that the defender has an issue with his knee. The Reds boss has also conceded he expects Daniel Sturridge to remain sidelined until after the next international break, before talking up Fabio Borini’s prospects ahead of the Magpies clash and also hinting at a change of tactics for the weekend, after mainly operating with a 4-2-3-1 in Sturridge’s absence.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has rated Papiss Cisse “touch and go” as the striker bids to overcome a knee problem in time for the Liverpool clash.

Reports in the local press indicate David Silva will miss the next three weeks with a knee problem sustained against Newcastle in midweek. Manuel Pellegrini is expected to clarify the situation in today’s lunchtime press conference.

Sean Dyche has received a boost ahead of the trip to the Emirates, with news that midfielder Dean Marney is back in contention to face the Gunners after recovering from injury.

Sadio Mane is a doubt to face Hull as he bids to overcome an ankle injury picked up last week. Ronald Koeman has announced that the winger is expected to be part of the travelling squad on Saturday, should he come through training this morning.

Federico Fernandez will be available for Swansea’s trip to Goodison after successfully appealing the red card he received in the midweek cup exit to Liverpool. Elsewhere, midfielders Gylfi Sigurdsson and Ki Sung-Yeung are both back in training ahead of the Toffees test

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

sorry you'd swear that there was some sh*t hot striker ready to return from injury to replace Wellebeck!

there isn't. its giroud. wenger would have no problems leaving him on the bench.

Giroud is a more consistant goalscorer than Welbeck to be fair

your talking about Wellbeck at united..different kettle of fish now. I think he is improving every game. played well against Blackcats, just wasn't given two goals on a plate

Arsenal are actually missing Giroud. Welbeck will run into the channels but hasn't learnt to hold the ball up as well. Plus Giroud holds seniority.

Welbeck might find himself out on the left flank again.

2 FT's this week. Took a gamble with Barkley on the cheap...
    Sterling, Chadli > Eriksen, Barkley

    Krul
    Chambers, Baines, Clyne
    Eriksen, Chamberlain, Fabby, Barkley
    Costa (C), Aguero, Welbeck
    --------------------------------------------
    Elliot, Siggy, Wisdom, Moore.

Reckon I should shake up my bench?

I sometimes look at PaddyPower (other betting sites are available) to see odds for "most likely to score" etc. My issue is between Hazard / Sanchez / Aguero.

So in a nut shell Paddy says:

Arsenal are most likely to win 2-0 (with Sanchez anytime scoarer 1.72)
Chelsea are most likely to win 3-0 (with Hazard anytime scoarer 2.0)
ManCity are most likely to win 2-1 (with Aguero anytime scoarer 1.9)

So what the feck does that mean?! Probably that Sanchez is best choice.... I just know if i pick Sanchez - Hazard's gonna get 2 pens & an assist and leave me v. cross indeed.

      Anytime scorer odds with Paddypower

      Sanchez 8/11
      Aguero 10/11
      Hazard evs

Odds for Players to score 2 or more with William Hill

      Costa 11/5
      Sanchez 10/3

    A) Aguero I'm a united fan so hard to captain him.
    B) Sanchez Tranfered in after his 2 goals from sunderland assists
    C) Hazard I've captained twice already this season, never been worth it.

Having that massive GW8 has proved a blessing and a curse. Great to get me up the ranks, but now I feel I'm playing with fear, not wanting to fall back to where I was, whereas before I was making fun transfers, now I'm here with 2FTs, not wanting to change a winning pack.

Or maybe it's just because I don't own ADM or Fab that I've got the fear. Considering removing Sterling which would mean I'm without any of the top 3 owned mids. Could go so disastrously wrong so quickly.

Imo, that midfield needs freshening up. Oscar, perhaps?

Should make myself clearer. Will he start? Think he played 90 midweek and on Saturday.

Hi Doos! I have actually thought about him... You reckon it would be a good punt to make a straight swap Sterling > Oscar? Cheers for your time and input mate! 🙂

do you really need ivan and baines? a cheaper defender and you could get a chelsea attacker

I have thought about downgrading Ivan to be honest... You reckon perhaps Sterling > Hazard, Ivan > Chambers would be worth a -4pt hit? Thanks mate! 🙂

Any way to improve this defence with negligible investment?

Ideally I was looking to generate some funds from a transfer, but that may not be possible.

    Sigurdsson Di María Fábregas Sterling
    Agüero Pellè Welbeck

Been looking at the same. Looked at aarons instead of jedniak because i thought CRY had a tough run of fixtures coming up

Boyd. Just because of price. I have Jedinak atm but not satisfied with him.

      F. Watch Ryan Mason as well.

tough to pick Aarons now on the back of just one good performance in the cup, risk of rotation between him and obertan? Or might they continue with both?

The main question is, are Aarons/mason/jedinak worth the extra 0.6m than boyd/obertan

        1. Axle11
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

i'm pretty sure Aarons in rotation risk. he won't play every week.

one of them (Mason/Jedinak) could be worth it IMO but you may need to watch them in several GWs first until you're convinced.

if you really need to do the transfer now, go with Boyd.

Don't think I've ever seen a goalkeeper more deserving of being dropped. Plus they have a good keeper to bring in for him. Mannone could benefit from being out of the limelight for a while.
