Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 10 – Sunday

Sergio Aguero grabs the match-winner against United as City win a fourth straight Manchester derby. United’s worries at the back continue as injury and suspension hit Louis van Gaal’s side. Nacer Chadli grabs his fifth of the campaign and Harry Kane stakes a claim for a starting role as Spurs come from behind to get the better of Villa.

Aguero Wraps Up Win Against Rivals

Sergio Aguero took his tally to ten for the season with the winner against Man United in the Manchester derby. The Argentinian now has seven goals and eight bonus points from his last six appearances in a run of form that has seen him emerge as an ‘essential’ pick right now. Notably, the City striker’s goal yesterday came in a week that saw the likes of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Saido Berahino all blank, allowing him to open up a five-point lead at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forward standings. Aguero still has ownership under 25%, though with City set to roll up to Loftus Road next weekend, that level of interest is surely set to increase over the coming week.

Derby Day Blues for United

The 1-0 loss to their local rivals was the first time in seven outings that United have failed to score, as Louis van Gaal’s start to life at Old Trafford continues to stutter. Angel Di Maria now has just one assist to show for his last three and has lost ownership in each of the last two Gameweeks, with the current of form of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez proving too tempting for many. However, United have three excellent home fixtures in their next four (CPL, HUL, STO) and Di Maria will have the chance to rediscover the form that saw him collect three double-figure hauls between Gameweeks 4 and 7.

Defensive Concerns Build for Red Devils

Attack is certainly likely to be the best form of defence for Van Gaal’s outfit, with their problems at the back showing no sign of abating. Rafael was injured in training prior to yesterday’s encounter, whilst Marcus Rojo dislocated his shoulder during the derby and is looks certain to miss the Crystal Palace clash this coming weekend, according to his manager. With Chris Smalling also suspended for that match after a catastrophic red card at the Etihad, and the likes of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones struggling with injury, Van Gaal is likely to have to stick with the partnership of Michael Carrick and Patrick McNair at centre back next weekend – it’s now no clean sheets in the last six for United, and a makeshift backline are sure to have their work cut out in turning that defensive form around.

Chadli and Kane Stun Villa

An inspiring comeback in the last ten minutes from Mauricio Pochettino’s side saw them clinch a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, with Nacer Chadli netting his fifth goal of the season and substitute Harry Kane scoring his seventh in his last seven appearances late on. With Erik Lamela sacrificed to the bench as Pochettino opted for a front two of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, and Cristian Eriksen hooked off at the break, Chadli looks the one regular Spurs player worth owning right now, as his eight-point haul at Villa Park took him up to fourth in the FPL midfield rankings. Kane, meanwhile, is yet to start a league match, though his manager has hinted post-match that he deserves more minutes. Spurs have decent fixtures ahead (STO, hul, EVE, che, CPL) and the 4.8-priced Kane may well be afforded further opportunities to show his capabilities across that schedule.

Villa Losing Streak Continues

Problems are mounting for Villa right now, who are without a win since Gameweek 4 and will now have to cope with star striker Cristian Benteke, who is suspended for the next three after being dismissed for violent conduct. Andreas Weimann scored his third of the season against Spurs – and his side’s first goal in 547 minutes of football. The schedule ahead is decent enough for the Austrian (whm, SOU, bur, cpl, LEI), but with morale so low amongst the Villa ranks, he is still unlikely to rival Diafra Sakho or Berahino for our affections in the budget forwards bracket.

    At Arsenal, we don't buy superstars, we make them.

    Games to score 10 goals Arsenal:

    Wright - 12
    Alexis - 16
    Eduardo - 19
    Chamakh - 21
    Kanu - 24
    Reyes, Poldi, Dennis - 26
    Henry - 28
    Giroud - 31

      to respond to your comment on last page, I did have some initial trepidation about losing Tadic in the double Sterling & tadic -> Sanchez and Downing move especially before leicester at home.

      However, tadic hasn't done much apart from his mega haul, and I felt the need to reduce the number of my SOT players prior to GW13 (I now have 2), so the move made sense to me.

        Cool

        I've looked at Goal threat/creativity between Tadic/Sterling/Downing.Downing looks ok, other then his % shots on target. I guess his price makes up for that.

        I might just do Sterling->Downing, keep Tadic one more week and hide once again when Arsenal play.

        South right at the top with goals at home.

    A) Sterling and Welbeck
    B) Sanchez and Kane

    Most of you will react with horror to this question but is Sanchez essential, is he worth a hit? Is getting rid of the likes of a consistent Fabregas worth it in order to fund him? Maybe I haven't watched enough of him but is Sanchez really worth it?

      I took a hit to get him in last week and switched the armband to him from Costa at 11:25 sat morning. So i'd say he's defo worth a hit lol.

      I'm having similar thoughts over here.

      The "essential" list changes every week.
      Can Sanchez really keep up this level of output?
      Di Maria was essential and a season keeper a few weeks ago. I moved heaven and earth to get him in, only for him muster 2 points at home to West Ham.

      Sanchez has had 13, 13, 16 in the last 3 games.
      Chances of him getting that in the next 3 too? Zilch...
      I feel it's just chasing points if I'm honest...

        Another prime example being Tadic...

          Sanchez has been much more consistent than Tadic though. That one game boosted Tadics place in the mids by so much.

          I'm not sure you can compare Tadic with AdM, Fabregas or Sanchez - all of whom are proven class at the very top level and are finding the PL all too easy

        Its not chasing points if he has been consistently scoring points all season. The man has the form and the stats to back up what he has done so far, there are no signs to suggest that will slow down. For that reason its certainly not chasing points.

    3. chrisjdgrady

      Yes he's truly class. Even with arsenals overall form being inconsistent and personally dissapointing so far he has shone and has saved their season. With their form on the up and Wally coming back he should do even better imo. Just watch that second goal from the weekend! Incredible.

      I would not drop Fab though. I've been calling him a season keeper for weeks and though many say there is not such a thing he keeps disproving them. I have fab and I'm dripping adm for Sanchez personally.

      Fabregas is consistent but on the other hand, you won't be scared of your opponent having him.

      He won't be captained by many and more likely to get 5-10 than a truly huge score.

      When arsenal have a standout fixture, thousands will captain him. let's see how your nerve holds then

      I took my first hit of the season to get him in (in fact a -8) this week. I just think he's hit his stride and he should keep getting returns over the season (not necessarily this week of course).

      I wouldn't sacrifce Fabregas for him though, nor AdM given the fixtures.

      'Luckily' I had Sterling so I could replace him whilst downgrading both Siggy and Welbeck for new shiny options in Downing and Sakho

      always ask myself if pruple patches make sense. sanchez makes complete sense. looking around at the other premium mids you have yaya (doesnt merit comment), di maria and fabregas as assisters (i very much class di maria as an assiter still, think he overperformed with goals and has scuffs aside really underperformed with assists so far), hazard who has goals but is showing little sign of them for months and months now, silva an assister, walcott scorer but just back from cruciate.
      alexis is the much needed goalscorer in the current climate. assists are fine and in the case of bps friendly fabregas and siggy they will lead to double figure scores if 2 come in a match but goals make captain options

      1. MJ6987
        • 13 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

        I agree totally with this. Fabregas is definitely an assister but will continue to tick along nicely - even his corners alone will give him enough points. AdM similarly although I also agree he has probably overachieved so far (some lucky points) and I would consider replacing him once the fixtures turn (maybe for Hazard)

        1. MrZ

          Imo adm is not overachieved, it's just that stupid LvG placed him out of his favoured position in recent games 🙁

          only concern over him is away scoring and whilst sunderland shouldn't be enough to dispel that fear as they were both freak goals (sorry but defenders get hassled like that all the time and don't turn do what brown and mannone did) but overall i think he has shown enough that it wont be a deal-breaking issue. without sounding too generalising or bnp he's the opposite of that stereotypical prima-donna who isn't o fond of away games or cold weather 😉 he's a street-fighter

    Sterling to Alexis would have to be funded by:

    Baines --> Chambers (or another max £5.3m)
    Tadic --> Downing (or another £5.8m midfielder)
    Fabregas --> Chadli (£7.6m available)
    Pelle --> Sakho (£6.2m available)

    Or, ignore Alexis and have £8.8m for a Sterling replacement!

      I'm no expert and have a very patchy history week on week myself, but I'd say maybe do a few more transfers. Also you seem to have a lot of high ownership players and that might be why it feels like you are treading water. The next time you swap big hitters try to get one who you think will be explosive but doesnt have a high ownership. Just my thoughts.

    Am I crazy to not try and get Sanchez in?... really is a pain in the arse..

    Forster

    Wisdom, Duff, Chambers, Azpilicueta, Bertrand

    Di María, Sigurdsson, Fábregas, Chadli, Diamé

    Agüero, Costa, Pellè

    Have 2 FT for the first time this season, and looking to get Walcott in for Sig in 2 weeks, need to free up cash 1st though.
    Thinking Duff to Yun or Taylor this week to earn .2? and saving the second to transfer out Forster in 2 weeks

    Bit of over reliance on Walcott as if will take 3-4 trans to do, but worth it, yarp?

      Duff fixtures are nice in next 8 or so, might be useful to come off your bench with the odd CS.

    Krul Foster
    Baines Clyne Wisdom Duff Hutton
    Hazard ADM Tadic Marney Siggy
    Aguero Wellbeck Pelle

    2FT and £1.2m in bank

    Struggling to justify losing the higher priced players and replacing Marney is a bit meh.

    Ideally 1 TF this week and carry 2 into Int break.

    RMT please

    Heaton (Mannone)
    Clyne - Chambers - Baines (Wisdom - Duff)
    Fab - ADM - Sanchez - Downing (Marney)
    Aguero - Pelle - Welbeck

    1 FT and 0.7 in the bank.

    A) Welbeck -> ?
    B) Marney -> ?
    C) Mannone -> ?

    Afternoon gents,

    Missed out on doing my transfer this week - now looks like I am dropping out of the top 10k.

    What are your thoughts on:
    Siggy, Sterling & Naylor -> Downing, Sanchez & Dummet?

      dont suppose you can afford Coll instead of Dummet.
      just that Santon is returning soon.

      otherwise , sound changes.

    Any thoughts on this team?
    ADM looks the most likely to get in next week or after I sell Pelle.

    DDG
    Clyne - Dummett - PVA
    Sanchez - Fabregas - Tadic - Downing
    Aguero - Costs - Pelle

    Fixtures look nice this week, hoping for a big score.

    I'm thinking of doing Bego > Courtois

    I'm normally not a fan of budget keepers, but while Bego's not killing me (because nobody else is doing soooo great) the next 6-7 weeks of chelsea are pretty sweet from a defensive POV

    Nuts or not?

      Soz *not normally a fan of expensive keepers*

        Not a bad shout, my only issue with expensive keepers is that the best you can hope for realistically is a clean sheet so their points potential is quite low. Saved penalties are very rare, so dropping £6m on a player that's likely to be getting you 2's or 6's seems a bit steep. IMO. I'd rather upgrade to an attacking defender in the team and at least you have assist and goal potential too, or Azpi who is hoovering up baps?

      • 9 Years

      Ive had Courtois from the start and have not been impressed by Chelsea's defensive capabilities, compared to cheaper keepers i think youll have better luck from not spending 6m for a clean sheet to maybe happen. Chelsea arent as strong at the back as they were last season

    Jakupovic

    S. Taylor, Clyne, Coleman, Duff

    Chadli, Sanchez, ADM

    Aguero (c), Costa, Welbeck

    Bench: Schmeichel, Isgrove, Siggy, Moore, £0.2ItB

    Good to go? Am thinking of taking Siggurdson out at GW12 but cant decide on a suitable replacement

      Downing is a good choice as you have Chadli. I think Barkley will come good soon as well

        Thanks for the reply, i had Barkley at the start and then had to switch him out due to his injury, am hoping he explodes soon, although im hoping for a cheaper alternative like £5-6m so may chance it on Downing. Moses looks ideal as well.

    How do I work in Sanchez into this?

    Forster Given
    Azpi Chambers Wisdom Hutton Duff
    Fab ADM Siggy Tadic Boyd
    Costa Aguero Pelle

    0.4 ITB

    A. Fab & Siggy -> Dowing & Sanchez
    B. Costa & Siggy/Tadic -> Sahko & Sanchez
    C. Other (please state)

    Also, worth taking a hit or should I do it over 2 weeks?
