KPI Analysis – Forwards, Last Four Gameweeks

In our third members’ article of the week, we turn our attentions to the player Key Performance Indicator (KPI) statistics. We delve into the data once again and, focusing our attentions on the forwards, assess player form over the last four Gameweeks compared to the first seven rounds of fixtures.

For the unfamiliar, these Key Performers Indicator (KPI) tables use a series of key stats to allow our members to track a trend in player performance as a guide to their form. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics, such as minutes per chance, and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain patterns of improvement or decline in these areas. For those unfamiliar, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

        ADM Sanchez Chadli Downing Boyd

The plan was to sell Chadders but his form (and spending my FTs on selling my SOT assets) mean I'd have to do Chadli > Siggy for a hit... 😕

would keep Downing for the moment. Good fixtures coming up and he was very involved vs. Villa. Could've easily had 3 assists and a goal

Innsie, Chadli's fixtures really are going to be a lot tougher than Sig's so if he blanks next week you may have your answer.

I think the likes of Chadli and Sig - Maybe Mane and Tadic too at some point - are going to be excellent value overall, but it is impossible to have them all so you either stick with one through tough fix, or change according to fix.

            Either strategy is viable IMO

But do you think Sig will outscore Chadli by more than 4 points in those easy fix?

                Nothing wrong with hits.

A very interesting season, that's for sure

He probably will and with his high ownership I could drop like a stone in the rankings if he keeps it up. On the other hand, if Spurs score then it's likely that Chadli will be involved.

I'm a bit reluctant to take hits after the start I've had, but I guess you're right, if I think Siggy will outscore him then taking the hit would be a good idea.

How about this for FF strategy?

To start with: five 4.0 defenders form the basis of my team

I have a team value of 120million, and am planning on playing 5-4-1, benching two of my 10m+ strikers each week depending on fixtures.

    Lots of love,

Yeah, spent £150m and still have half a team of youngsters, whilst the other half is full of highly over-paid players past their primes (rooney, rvp, carrick, valencia, etc).

Its funny how much every lambasts Liverpool for spending £16m on Balotelli - who could yet come good when paired with Sturridge - when United have spent nearly double that amount to have Falcao play 250 minutes for them, on loan.

      1. Solenya
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

        Nice maths there 😉
        A. Balo is 16m + Salary and Falcao is 6m + Salary. Even considering Falcao's Salary is much higher than Balo, how does that amount to a double, care to explain?
        B. Falcao's been injured

        1. rickardinho
          • 9 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

Falcao's loan cost is certainly not £6m for the season. Why would Monaco let their 28 year-old £45m striker go for so cheap when he could get injured and come back worthless? The figures I remember hearing were £20m loan fee + wages, which were in the £10-12m range.

Its possible that I'm wrong, but even if they cost the same, loaning a cripple for that much for one season is just madness.

And B is hardly a surprise is it... they bought a player who hadn't played 90 minutes since January, what did they expect?!

            http://lmgtfy.com/?q=falcao+loan+fee
Not claiming it's certain but most sources say its about £24m with Salary. On the injury front, he doesn't have a bad record, was worth a gamble assuming he'd be good once he fully recovers.

Re: Moin's post fail, no... Considering Sterling over Wally is certainly not madness. IMO it is much more sensible.

Wenger could take months to start wally regularly, and 90 mins even longer, plus we don't even know if he will be the same after injury.

Sterling is a nailed on starter with very good fixtures and Sturridge coming back.

I'd consider Sterling right now but wouldn't go near Wally yet.

Exactly. The key to getting the edge will be that when he gets his first 80 mins, and plays well, even if he blanks bring him in.

Most players in the game (not including FFS) will wait til he gets his first goal, so it'll still be a big advantage for those who act fast.

Unless of course he starts and gets a hattrick 🙁

Yeah not great, but that was against sto, LEI, eve, ARS, ..not the easiest games apart from LEI.

Look at his Big Chances though, those are the important ones, though admittedly 1-2 of those are pens 😛

Still, i think he could move up those tables soon with CPL and QPR on the horizon...

Wilshere would never have scored that goal against City last May, or the one against Newcastle though.... Wilshere is the prototypical Wenger midfielder: tippy-tappy, all flash no substance, whereas Barkley is more direct, take-no-prisoners midfielder

Barkley is a rotation risk with EL being so important for Everton

Osman, Pienaar, McGeady, Naismith, Eto'o, Mirallas, Besic, Atsu, etc, are all competition for one of those 3 spots behind Lukaku.

I'm also an Everton fan and we'd be absolutely mad to sell Berkley in January.

He's such a dynamic player, one of the few genuine playmakers in the league, the sort of player who can make things happen out of nothing. And, if you think he's not doing well enough I don't think you appreciate how hard it is to do what he does.

None of those players are Barkley class. IF we got £45 million for him we'd end up replacing with a load of lightweights (see Spurs post Bale) cos £45 million midfielders don't join clubs like Everton. Or Liverpool or Spurs for that matter.

I do agree with you on this. So many always jump on the bandwagons i.e. Naismith, Ulloa as you say.

I'm currently choosing between Austin or Sakho. The reason I'm thinking of Austin (form discounted) is he's their main man, guaranteed games, not under pressure from anyone else.

Eventually another cheap striker must become a Tevez, or a Rooney rather than an Ulloa etc. Austin has been steadily improving over this time in the PL, so maybe it's him . . . you can't keep ignoring form, and most of us need the 3rd striker to be cheaper than the three you have chosen. Personally, I think Pelle is just a more expensive Ulloa by the way - already fading

Fair call I love the Austin story by the way and have a soft spot for QPR as well so I hope he kicks on. Pelle has been great and has gone off the boil but he is still the main point of attack in the team running second so I will give him this week and then see what plays out. I will prob bring in Austin and Baines next week at this rate

Thing is, now we've had 11 GW's to look at Austin, an we know a lot more than we did about Ulla and Naismith at the time. For instance:

      - qpr are only bad away from home
      - Austin has the 5th highest shots per game in the league (!)
      - qpr can compete with anyone on their day - see Liv, che, mci games
      - Austin has good underlying numbers over 11 gws, not just 3-4 like Ulloa and Naismith
      - Austin is on pens
      - he is 100% nailed on and most attacks are aimed at him
      - his next two home games are against poor away defences - lei and burnley

My decision to bring him in was based on many factors, not just current form or the fact that he had 1 good game. Check whoscored and all the member tables over 11 games as well as over 4 gws. They all tell the same story: tht Austin is a good choice

I'm leaning towards Sahko. Only because he's playing for a better team with more creativity and he's likely to get more chances. Let's face it, QPR are in a relegation battle and I always feel a dreadful performance from them is around the corner, although they've down well in the last three.

Haha. Thoughts so. It seems that you got mixed reaction for that Diame for Moreno conundrum, and to help you with that, I don't think I'm willing to let him go atm. Let's hope for the best for those players now!

Haha, the guys who thought I should take it were either United fans who don't rate any liverpool player (muppet) or saying I should do it without any regard for stats.

Hull are the 2nd worst attacking team, poor fixtures, and Diames underlying stats are poor apart from his position. imo it's a no brainer for you given your team needs, but I'm not convinced giving Moreno up for Diame is so smart for me.

Let me know if you hangs your mind and I'll reconsider though 😉

Swansea bought Gomis thinking Bony will leave in the summer but he didn't leave..so is there a Chance of Bony being sold in Jan (if there is a bid) ?

Gomis whenever he has got the game time has looked decent..

Costa V Aguero for the armband. Who are you going with and why?

I'm going with Aguero. Swansea won't park the bus which will mean an open game at the Eithad imo. Kun is in great form and on pens. Costa could do well, but I reckon WBA will make it harder for Chelsea and get plenty men behind the ball. Plus Costa isn't on penalties so Kun edges it for me.

There's always another flavour of the month cheap striker available - Berahino, Sakho, Perez, Kane, Ulloa, Naismith, Bojan, Cisse...

Or alternatively a hit sorts it all out.

You think? You mentioned last week there were rumours of him getting above van Persie in the pecking order, I guess RvP didn't do enough against Palace to make those go away.

Given the bandwagon we saw for Januzaj last season I can only imagine what would happen if there were a 4.4m option up front for Man Utd!

Probably another cheap striker. I'm thinking maybe one of the ones that is scoring a lot of goals whilst most of the premium picks spend their time limping around injured.

An oblique reference to the Everton starlet? Are you thinking of bringing him in? Strikes me as one of those players who I admire greatly in real life but isn't quite worth owning in FPL - at least not at this year's price. I also stayed away last year when he was very cheap and didn't particularly regret it - his fantasy returns are very thin on the ground.

every one of those teams has strikers currently in great form. Not a hope of a cs

I only have Downing. But I would back us to get two of those.

What? There's a decent chance of a few cleanies there.

So I'm standing all alone and I'm only skin and bone.
So many faces but they all look out for their own.
Why don't you give me some love?

Room for a couple of cleanies there easily. Also, if selecting Cresswell, could easily get attacking returns to boot.

Best replacement for Pelle? Torn between going a cheapie and upgrading my D or going large with Sturridge and downgrading Fab or ADM?

None of the mid price strikers look like doing anything except potentially Bony and maybe Pelle will hit form again? Pelle owners whats your plan?

If you got Pelle for very cheap, he's worth keeping imo.

Pelle -> Costa [hopefully after serving his 5th yellow suspension]
      Fab -> Sanchez
Clyne -> Naylor [same story as with Costa]

Keep. Sadly there are no mid priced alternatives who are guaranteed 90.
