The ScoutCast – Episode 143 – Yellow

Far from a tribute to Chris Martin’s middle of the road act, this week’s ScoutCast reflects on the sea of yellow flags that have flooded our Fantasy Premier League squads over the past week. You’re nobody unless you’ve collected at least four by Saturday morning.

The uncertainty caused by phantom international break injuries dominates proceedings as Granville and I mark a return to the studio. Whilst I start praying for Georgie Boyd to step up, my co-host begins his campaign to hypnotise me into getting rid of Branislav Ivanovic before he starts putting further daylight between our teams. I’m refusing to gaze into Granville’s eyes.

Elsewhere this week, we catch “Cup Fever” and resurrect the ScoutCast team. Sign up and you could soon have the pleasure of knocking Granville and I out of our own cup competition. Providing we qualify of course – that’s far from a given.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I see some on the boards fretting about trying to get rid of a cheap non playing defender or one who can't be played due to the poor defence they are in.

A good strategy I find to get rid of a 4.0 def is to keep an eye out for a gw where your def doesn't look too hot and take a hut for a defensive replacement for the guy who you want rid of. If the guy you are brining in has a good chance of a cs then the hit can pay off immediately and if they new guy has good fixtures he could pay off over a longer term even if not in the short term.

I find these dead players can really effect your points potential over a long period if you don't take the surgery option and amputate them asap.

What do you think? Worth taking a hit to tidy up your team even for a lower value player?

Genuinely wasn't going for a top of the page. That is a nice surprise rather than the usual getting lost on the end of the previous page.

Yeah if you are going to take a hit for a cheap option, earlier is certainly better than later. Getting them at the start of a good run of fixtures rather than during would also help you gain those points back and increase the likely benefit of the trade.

i will wait until i have 2ft b4 i sell my cheapie. i waited for 11gw to take out ferdinand on 2ft..mainly due to the fact that i have good covers so ferdinand is not really a burden.

when u get in a risky def like this u have plan in advance and to assume that he's not playing..by having 4 nailed on def with decent fixtures will certainly minimize the risk..thus i see no need to take a hit just to sell the cheapie.

might be a good move esp cresswell getting assists! though i m pondering whether the move is worthy of losing 0.4tv and a FT to do that as westham not keeping much cs, or would i be better off with just playing the likes of wisdom and yun to cover clyne in the meanwhile.

@A Def's Nightmare, regarding your transfer conundrum.

Most people here said Costa is worth even for a hit. I can agree to that, but at the expense of Pelle vs Villa? I'm not too sure about that one. Pelle is the focus of Soton's attack, and if Tadic is out, the team will rely on him more. Heck even Pelle could take the PK if Tadic is out! otoh, Chelsea can find other viable source of gials in Haz, Oscar (you name 'em).

It's a toss really. Good luck mate.

    1. davies
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

It doesn't matter if they can find another viable source of goals, though. The bottom line is, every team 'can' do that, but Costa is the one that scores them.

Despite that, I'd definitely keep Pelle this week, makes an easy switch to Costa next week.

it depends on whether u believe costa will score more than pelle or not. By taking a -4, u buy yourself an extra transfer.

the extra transfer is worth 4pts itself which u have sacrificed..if costa outscore pelle by 2pts for eg..u only waste 2pts to get in costa..but u save yourself a transfer next week.

different people think differently but that's my view of taking hits for transfers..not those 1 week punt which seldom works out, but those transfers that u will inevitably do for the long term.

      1. NABIL - FPL otai
        • 11 Years

Totally agree with that. It is one's opinion whether the hit is justified or not. When that transfer prove to be right for the long run, I'm sure we will feel vindicated. Otoh, the risk is always there, and in case of Costa, the case of 5th yellow should be taken into consideration.

    Badly need help!!!
    Have 5 players flagged with injuries & 4 players on 4 YC's

    What to do? 1FT & 0.1m ITB.

    GK - Heaton, Schmeichal
DF - Chambers, Clyne, Saylor, Naylor, Wilson
MD - Fabregas, ADM, Siggy, Schneiderlin, Mane
    FW - Aguero, Costa, Welbeck

Presume everyone has similar injury issues? Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Yup everyone pretty similar. I expect most of these to play. Schneiderlin and Wilson I havent heard anything on. Maybe worth a transfer on Wilson if he's out to set your defence. Mane may be rested after the internationals. Not sure if the Southampton presser has been done but I would listen out for news on that.

Mane only made a cameo appearance Tues for Senegal as they had already qualified but God knows when he back, will listen out for news though especially after Long replaced him last time out and scored 2.

Wilson is the one that needs to go alright, planned on playing him home to Burnely and ditching next week cos of the fixtures but it seems I need to pull the trigger now.

Any suggestions on a DF for 4.6m or less? Cheers!

Long didnt play at all for Ireland though in the USA game is the worrying thing (though he did play against Scotland) and on the back of his 2 goals surely the best time to give him a shot and appease all his squad players.

All the defenders cheaper than 4.6 have massive cons lol You already have Salyor so maybe Hutton, Duff or Yun might be decent for the long run.

I'm not good enough to do a cheap def rotation well. Who is the least expensive defender you would play every week? Right now it's Clyne but I'm not sure I can play him through the upcoming storm.

Is it Azpilicueta at 6.0m? Anyone less than that?

Azpi is the only one who springs to mind that I would be happy to play every week at that price. None of the 5.0- 5.5s look decent when SOuthamptons and Stokes fixtures turn.

How should I sort this out? Not thinking many moves are worth a hit.

Fabregas -> Oscar done before the price drop. Fells like my first big risky move this season but as it was my first transfer in 21 days it had to be an exciting one 🙂

So? I've been wanting to bring him in but injuries keep putting him at arm's length.

Lot of money to pay for Terry. Chelsea don't look like the Chelsea of old at the back. But why do I care? It's not as if I get half the replies from you, like most here.

Ah well, I don't do RMTs myself very often. I suppose if you do one you have to remember that people can only reply to one or two at a time before the page moves on. I wouldn't take it personally if I was you.

If I have four players at 75% likelihood on FPL then three of them should start. No need to panic since anything for a hit is like giving up a CS or a goal. Might even save my transfer.

The 75% on FPL means nothing really though. RVP was yellow for most of last year I believe. Look at the players individually. I have Sakho baines and Fabregas. I only expect Fab to start.

Hmm, another option. But I'd rather lose Chester first before Clyne. Hull will go to OT next, while Clyne will entertain City at home. Anything can happen.

Altenatively I can do D. Chester & Pelle to Yun and 8.7. All depends on who gets the 5th yellow first 😆

    2 questions: Should I start -

    - Schmeichel (SUN home) or Krul (QPR home)

    - Chambers (MUN home) or Kaboul (hull away)

Really is a toss up for keepers but Newcastle can keep a clean sheet and Leicester can't so ..

True. Just think with Colo and Ryan Taylor out Newcastles defence might be a bit shaky. And Leicester are 'due' a good result, if you believe that. I also have Austin so will be wanting him to score. It's a close call.

haha I dont go in for 'due' myself. QPR do look like they could score alright. Maybe worth sticking it on Schmeichel just to save you the hassle of rooting against Austin 😆

I'd probably play Schmeichel considering you have Austin.

      Kaboul.

Does this team (which will be effective from GW13) require any changes?

    Krul / Foster Elliott

    Baines Terry Clyne Chambers Duff

    Sanchez Walcott Hazard Downing Boyd

    Aguero Pelle Austin

I would ditch Clyne and Pelle next week

For MrAnonymous but sure if it fits you too why not? 😆 I think most should ditch Clyne and Pelle next week

Was thinking of doing ADM to Oscar and pelle to Costa. ADM has 2 nice home games coming up though.
Could do Clyde to a 4.4 defender instead and bring in Costa. What you all think?

Unlikely to be fit but he hasn't given up hope as Baines has shrugged off a Grade one tear in 8 days before. If not fit for the weekend will be fit for Wolfsburg

Anyone else having a minger picking your captain?
I can't seem to get my captain picks right lately at all...
    GW 11 - ADM (c) Aguero (vc)...missed out on 14 pts
    GW 10 - Costa (c) Aguero (vc)...missed out on 12 pts
    GW 9 - Aguero (c) Sterling (vc)...everyone blanked
    .....etc

Saying all that COSTA or AGUERO???

Yes. If I had swapped all my Captains for my Vice Captains I would be 60 points better off...
