The Midweek Team News

Newcastle have worries in defence as they head to Burnley. Arsenal have concerns at left-back for the home clash against Southampton, who are set to be without Morgan Schneiderlin. Enner Valencia returns as the Hammers head to the Hawthorns, Yun Suk-Young could be poised to recover for QPR, whilst Stoke have a midfield headache ahead of their visit to Old Trafford.

Wojciech Szczesny remains sidelined for Arsenal’s home clash with Southampton. Arsene Wenger has also confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal are all doubts, though hopes to have one of the latter two available to feature at left-back.

Morgan Schneiderlin has been ruled out of the Emirates clash and is set for adductor scans. Jack Cork is back for Ronald Koeman’s side, though, after recovering from a weekend illness.

Mark Noble is a doubt for the Hammers’ trip to West Brom later this evening after suffering a recurrence of a calf complaint during the weekend win over Newcastle. Enner Valencia is back in the squad after missing the last two matches though injury, though fellow forward Diafra Sakho is still unavailable. Winston Reid returns after serving a one-match suspension.

Gary Monk has confirmed that Swansea have no new injury worries ahead of the home clash against QPR. Nathan Dyer is set to return to the squad after missing out at the weekend.

Steve Sidwell (knee) could be out for up to six weeks for the Potters, whilst Glenn Whelan is expected to be sidelined for a couple of weeks with a calf complaint. Phil Bardsley is back in training after recovering from the illness that forced him to miss the weekend trip to Liverpool.

Newcastle are facing a mounting injury crisis in defence for the trip to Burnley. Alan Pardew is already without Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini and is now sweating over the fitness of Mike Williamson, Massadio Haidara and Daryl Janmaat. With Moussa Sissoko and Jack Colback serving one-match suspensions, the Magpie manager has revealed he has included three youth team players in his matchday squad.

Sebastien Pocognoli is a doubt for West Brom after sustaining a dead leg at the weekend. James Morrison is back in training and will be assessed for the visit of West Ham.

Leicester’s David Nugent is set to be assessed after picking up an ankle problem at the weekend. The Foxes boss Nigel Pearson has also confirmed that Dean Hammond is back in training but tonight’s match is set to come too soon.

Harry Redknapp remains optimistic that Yun Suk-Young will recover from the knee knock that forced him off in the weekend win over Leicester. Bobby Zamora could also be in contention – he requires a late fitness test after missing out on Saturday with a back problem.

Mamadou Sakho is back in training for Liverpool but this evening’s trip to Leicester will come too soon. Mario Balotelli is sidelined once again with a groin injury.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Azpilicueta, best left back, best full back or best defender in the PL? He's just incredible, how do you get past him?

A modern full back should also be able to attack. He offers basically nothing.

To be fair to him, having Hazard up ahead of you probably makes him sitting deep a pragmatic strategy.

I don't get this. Players better than Hazard still benefit from overlapping runs.

          Ronaldo-Marcelo
          Bale-Carvajal
          Ribery-Alaba
          Robben-Lahm
          Neymar-Alba
          Silva-Kolarov

Maybe he would be better as a right back.

Agreed. Play him in his natural position but Jose wants to have Ivanovic & Dave in the team by any means.

I think he prefers to offaly the ball and let more gifted attackers take it. Defensively, he's the best I've seen. Reminds me of Cole at his peak, just no way around him.

The point is that a modern full back should be able to do both, attacking is probably more important than defending in top teams nowadays.

He couldn't play for Barca, Bayern, Real Madrid, Man City etc.

almost a 3 rd centre back when he plays as left back.

at RB hes awesome much more productive attacking wise. Prob not as good in the air as Ivanovic but i think he has more pace.

2 chances conceded down the left flank for Chelsea in 4 games, that's ridiculous, especially when they've conceded 12 on the other side.

He's proved it can be done. I haven't heard so much praise from professionals for a full back for a while.

Who would you choose as captain, please? I am stumped. 🙁

OK - Let's try this again, with a bit of info:

    Agüero - (Fix. Rate: 372; BCC: 9; SIBC: 47)
    Hazard - (Fix. Rate: 335; BCC: 12; SIBC: 52)
    Sánchez - (Fix. Rate: 189; BCC: 8; SIBC: 29)
    Touré - (Fix. Rate: 372; BCC: 9; SIBC: 47)
    Sigurdsson - (Fix. Rate: 267; BCC: 11; SIBC: 68)
    Austin - (Fix. Rate: -267; BCC: 11; SIBC: 47)
    Baines - (Fix. Rate: 350; BCC: 13; SIBC: 54)

    BCC - Big chances conceded
SIBC - Shots in Box Conceded.

Please try to figure this out carefully - it may benefit all of us! 🙂

I'm yet to do any proper analysis on that, but from what I've read on here from fairly reliable sources - a good thing.

I'll probably chicken out and pop it on Rooney. Really think Hazard is a good choice though. Doosra, have a read of Captain Foresight on ITWT's site. It's excellent and might help your decision. 🙂

ah yes. there is that too. Will Cork be back to put a plug in that? 😀 As said by others I'd be more inclined by Baines or Aguero, maybe Hazard, by the numbers. Aguero as I said before is my personal choice.

I certainly hope I am interpreting these correctly.

To me it looks as if Kun is getting fewer chances than some, couple that to a defence that is parking the bus and he could struggle.

Hazard I'm not surprised at, the fecker needs to put his shooting boots on.

Sanchez quite low as well, surprisingly so and Giroud's presence my hamper that but numbers may swell without a certain French whinger in the midfield for Soton.

Yaya again the exact same as Kun.

Siggy looks to be doing very well from these figures, against a poor defence, very tempting.

Austin against a tighter defence may have less joy.

Baines is very tempting indeed with those numbers and CS potential!

Siggy and Baines look like the front runners here to me, which I am chuffed about as that is what I said initially 😀

This is where the subjective nature comes into play a little when we think of quality of shooting etc.

I for one think Hazard's shooting has been poor, he has squandered some chances. Plus side, penalties.

I haven't really seen much of Baines this season so I haven't a clue really and wouldn't dare advice. Plus side, penalties.

Siggy's shooting was off target at the weekend but had the quality of a player that was sharpening up, it was frequently a few inches too wide or too high. Certainly better quality shooting than Hazard imo.

Perhaps we should consider penalties conceded by the opposition as well. I don't know the figures but Spurs seem to get caught out against faster teams. Or at least they did with Kaboul there. Dawson at Hull can be a slow one on the turn as well. Could be worth digging up numbers on that if you are so inclined 🙂

Ok team, need some help with this team:

    Heaton (Manonne)

    Clyne Azpi Jags (Wisdom Hutton)

    ADM Siggy Sanchez Chadli Cork

    Costa Kun (Sakho)

    Thinking of:

    A. Costa => Rooney now then ADM => Oscar
    B. Costa => Bony/Pelle now then ADM => Hazard
    C. Stick with Costa, sort Sakho out first
    D. Other suggestions.

Hello guys, first time posting so make me feel welcomed 🙂

    Foster
    Chambers/Naylor/Baines
    Sanchez/Fabs/Downing/Siggy
    Rooney©/Austin/Kun

    Myhill - Betrand/Dummet/Cork and 1.5 ITB

I am happy with my team for this week but i'm already thinking of tonight transfers, I love my early transfers and don't mind a hit. WWJD ?

i am leaning towards doing Betrand>Clichy and Naylor>Azpi for -4, but the sight of Spurs fixtures makes me wanna have coverage with either Eriksen or Chadli, could get Chadli for a -4 and the Dan's for -8. Would suck to miss their home fixture to Palace.

Cheers and good luck for tonight

I guess another slight thing to consider when captaining a midfielder is whether their team is likely to keep a clean sheet, which means defenders may or may not be tussling for BPs.

How likely are Chelsea to keep a CS against spurs (considering Hazard (C))

I can feel it. Falcao bandwagon starts tonight!

Until he starts--It's still too much of a risk having 10M+ FWD who only comes in with 20-15min to go.

That is because he just came back from injury. Pretty sure he ll start today. I plan to decide tonight between Rooney and Falcao

I guess another slight thing to consider when captaining a midfielder is whether their team is likely to keep a clean sheet, which means defenders may or may not be tussling for BPs.

How likely are Chelsea to keep a CS against spurs (considering Hazard (C))

Fairly likely I would say. Chelsea hitting defensive form. You make a good point.

Hmm yeah, although spurs were very impressive against everton on the weekend. We'll see I guess.

Have no idea how to get rid of Tadic. 🙁

Can't afford more expensive than him and only options are Barkley, Chadli and Downing. If I get one of them I can get Jedinak as well.

I've captained him three times this season. Been burned twice by it. He's just so unpredictable.

Yep....I have at least seven out and no goalies at all. the loan system needs to be overhauled I think. Its just not worth my while at the moment - either reduce the points or have a limited number of free transfers - two or three pre Christmas.

Hutton, though I doubt either of them will keep a clean sheet
