The Midweek Team News

Newcastle have worries in defence as they head to Burnley. Arsenal have concerns at left-back for the home clash against Southampton, who are set to be without Morgan Schneiderlin. Enner Valencia returns as the Hammers head to the Hawthorns, Yun Suk-Young could be poised to recover for QPR, whilst Stoke have a midfield headache ahead of their visit to Old Trafford.

Wojciech Szczesny remains sidelined for Arsenal’s home clash with Southampton. Arsene Wenger has also confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal are all doubts, though hopes to have one of the latter two available to feature at left-back.

Morgan Schneiderlin has been ruled out of the Emirates clash and is set for adductor scans. Jack Cork is back for Ronald Koeman’s side, though, after recovering from a weekend illness.

Mark Noble is a doubt for the Hammers’ trip to West Brom later this evening after suffering a recurrence of a calf complaint during the weekend win over Newcastle. Enner Valencia is back in the squad after missing the last two matches though injury, though fellow forward Diafra Sakho is still unavailable. Winston Reid returns after serving a one-match suspension.

Gary Monk has confirmed that Swansea have no new injury worries ahead of the home clash against QPR. Nathan Dyer is set to return to the squad after missing out at the weekend.

Steve Sidwell (knee) could be out for up to six weeks for the Potters, whilst Glenn Whelan is expected to be sidelined for a couple of weeks with a calf complaint. Phil Bardsley is back in training after recovering from the illness that forced him to miss the weekend trip to Liverpool.

Newcastle are facing a mounting injury crisis in defence for the trip to Burnley. Alan Pardew is already without Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini and is now sweating over the fitness of Mike Williamson, Massadio Haidara and Daryl Janmaat. With Moussa Sissoko and Jack Colback serving one-match suspensions, the Magpie manager has revealed he has included three youth team players in his matchday squad.

Sebastien Pocognoli is a doubt for West Brom after sustaining a dead leg at the weekend. James Morrison is back in training and will be assessed for the visit of West Ham.

Leicester’s David Nugent is set to be assessed after picking up an ankle problem at the weekend. The Foxes boss Nigel Pearson has also confirmed that Dean Hammond is back in training but tonight’s match is set to come too soon.

Harry Redknapp remains optimistic that Yun Suk-Young will recover from the knee knock that forced him off in the weekend win over Leicester. Bobby Zamora could also be in contention – he requires a late fitness test after missing out on Saturday with a back problem.

Mamadou Sakho is back in training for Liverpool but this evening’s trip to Leicester will come too soon. Mario Balotelli is sidelined once again with a groin injury.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

    Elliot
    Baines, Clyne, Hutton
    Fabregas, Hazard, Sanchez, Siggy, Boyd
    Aguero, Ings

Subs : - Yun, Wisdom, Krul, Costa

It's just a general rule about captaining defenders I think, and he's largely reliant on set pieces for goals. I don't agree with it though, I think he's a good option this week.

It's sort of a given he'll let you down. You can't predict his attacking points and you have to get lucky for him to score bigger than the main captain choice of the week.

    4. Mull
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 6 months ago

If you want to take a risk he's an OK option but it's in no way guaranteed to work. They won't get a CS 100% of the time and if that goes down you're hoping for an assist/goal from a defender which is not a position I want to be in. I've done it several times and it's never fun.

        Thanks.

Has it ever paid off? I wouldn't think of leaving the armband on him, but for a game at home to Hull, say, it seems as rewarding (if not more so) than Aguero away to SUN - or is that foolishness?

          • 13 Years

Do it if you like, I'll go against NB part against City.

I've done it 3 times and he scored in 2 of them so I've got very lucky from doing it although he's not kept a clean sheet in any of the 3. I think it is foolishness. Everton aren't getting many clean sheets this season and I think Aguero on this form has way more potential than Baines.

      2. Mahesh_Kumar

        His scores in the last 12 games . 1, 0 , 2 , 12, 10, 2, 2, 15, 7, 7, 11, 1 . How can you not have him?

I capped him in gw9 and gw11 this year, worked a treat 🙂 Considering it this week too. Its a gamble, sure, but whats the fun in capping Kun every week?

I like this. It's one of the reasons I didn't jump on the Pelle bandwagon - I quite like trying to find differentials (not gone great so far haha).

Got to get rid of Mannone, got 0.0 ITB. Other keeper is Foster by the way.

    Naylor / Chambers / Clyne / Hutton / Davies
    Sigg / Sanchez / ADM / Sterling / Eriksen
    Costa / Bony / Sakho

    0.3 ITB, 2FT

    Think to do Sakho + ADM -> 16m = (forward + midf)

    a) ADM Sakho -> Rooney Jedinak
    b) ADM Sakho -> Yaya Kane
    c) ADM Sakho -> Mata + under 7.2 striker

Is Chambers at risk of losing his spot now that debuchy is due back (in a week or so)?

i can actually see Chambers being moved to a CM spot, so i'm not worried.

Yes. Definitely. When Debuchy is fully fit of course

He'll lose the RB slot but might gain a CB or LB place. Arsenal can't seem to stay injury free.

If Bony starts tonight...Adm and Costa to Sanchez and Bony worth a hit?

If you want Roo long term, then at home to Stoke is not the worst game to kick off his career in your team is it 🙂

One of you eejits needs to build a time machine and find out who the best captaincy option is 👿

I would but the Space Police don't let me buy building supplies any more 😥

Thoughts on Sanchez (C) ? Didn't see many mentioning him.

No Schneiderlin is a big plus for Sanchez. Giroud may get in his way though.

Yeah I expect Arsenal to score 2 or 3 and when they score he is the main man. Giroud may be a problem though.

    Good 2 go?

Made 2 trasnfers this week and have the Money to take Costa back next GW
    i went: Costa ->Roonpig & Clyne -> Hutton

    Guzan (Given)
Baines - Hutton - Yun (Wisdom - Duff)
Siggy - Hazard - Sanchez - Downing (Wanyama)
    Roonpig (C) - Austin - Aguero (VC)

Am I good 2 go with this captain-choice?
