City Sweating On Aguero Knee Injury

Fantasy managers are on red alert this evening after Sergio Aguero was forced off after just six minutes of City’s 1-0 home win over Everton. Clearly distraught, the Argentine left the pitch in tears amid fears he’s set to spend a spell on the sidelines and post-match, Manuel Pellegrini could offer little to reassure us.

When quizzed on his star striker’s injury, the City boss could only offer:

“Sergio has a knee ligament problem and we will see tomorrow how serious it is. It is not good news and we will see tomorrow when he [visits the doctor] but he won’t be able to play next week. We must wait for the doctor to see how [bad it is] but the important thing is he won’t be fit for the Roma game. We will see tomorrow, but at the moment, we’re not sure [about the length of the injury].”

City travel to Roma on Wednesday in the Champions League and we can certainly expect an early-week prognosis from Pellegrini, affording us time to re-assess our three-man frontlines ahead of the weekend.

Clearly, if Aguero has indeed suffered ligament damage, our worst fears will be realised and could force him out of contention for some time. The South American has lit up the Premier League with 14 goals and three assists and proven the most reliable captaincy contender around – with a goal or assist in 10 of his 15 appearances, Aguero’s explosive potential has seen him serve up hauls of 19, 13 and 16 points in the last eight Gameweeks.

In spite of his displays for Chelsea, Diego Costa, by comparison, has produced a top score of seven points from Gameweek 5 onwards. Whilst the Blues striker is the obvious alternative if Aguero is ruled out, his inability to earn bonus makes him a less appealing captaincy contender. Indeed, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez suffering since moving out wide and Eden Hazard yet to score away from home, Aguero’s possible absence would make the armband conundrum that little bit more difficult in any given Gameweek, as our heavy-hitters struggle for consistency.

Up front, Aguero’s withdrawal came on a day that eight of 14 teams failed to find the net – underlying the paucity of options for our three-man frontlines right now. Charlie Austin’s fine form continued only for the R’s frontman to be sent off against Burnley, leaving the likes of Wilfried Bony, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the chance to stake a claim for consideration over the next couple of days’ action. Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic could prove unlikely heroes for City but bearing in mind that Aguero has played a part in 65% of his side’s goals when on the pitch this season, the pair have big shoes to fill.

Perhaps we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves but Aguero’s previous when it comes to injuries has many owners understandably on edge. Given that City now face Leicester, Palace, West Brom, Burnley and Sunderland in successive matches, we’ll hold fire for now in the hope that Pellegrini’s initial prognosis was wide of the mark but exit plans will be tentatively penciled in as we eagerly await the next update.

Just came on to say that was an awful refereeing performance.

Lawler definitely did not win that fight. Everyone except the refs think so.

That is all. I hope Rory gets a shot and lays him a beating.

    Well.... 6 flags...

    Heaton, Krul*
    Baines, N.Taylor, Dawson, Duff*, Chambers*
    Yaya, Fabregas*, Sterling, Downing, Boyd
    Aguero*, Austin*, Costa.

    1FT,
Thinking Aguero and Chambers --> Rooney and Azpi for -4, but would be willing to take -8.

Costa has previous for being only able to play a game a week. When Aguero goes down it's because a lesser man would be dead. Hopefully he's grand and he'll be back for Roma but, given his injury history, I very much doubt it. Don't ship him before Friday night though.

Aguero is 99% done for anywhere from 2-12 weeks. Almost a guarantee.

Wait til later in week, and after Roma though...

This isn't Mourinho mind games. This is a genuinely concerned manager, about the EARTH'S in form striker.

I think, and I repeat, I THINK, it is a torn meniscus from how it looked and how he hobbled off. I tore both. I am not a pro and I wasn't a quarter the athlete he is.

          I played 15 days later.

Daft to sell Austin? Given his form, best practice seems to just give Boyd a run out at home to Southampton. Wouldn't have expected much at Good is on anyway, and after that his run is pretty great:

You're biaised. If you think Man CIty have a good defence then you know nothing about football. A good keeper, and a very good centre back. Demichelis and Mangala are prone to mistake after mistake. Zabaleta is capable but getting on, still wants to get forward too much. Sagna is good, also getting on a bit. Clichy and Kolarov are poor defenders. It's not just City though. I support Liverpool and their defence is shambolic beyond belief. It's modern football. Too much emphasis on defensive midfieldrs covering up the inadequacies of poor defenders and fullbacks who only want to attack. There's only one team in the league that can defend and barring a disaster will have the league won in April.

You said Clichy has no CS potential.

I said two in last three.

We have amazing fixtures. Vinny back imminently. Mangala settling. Demi MOTM after Milner yesterday.

I am done with u. Nothing personal.

Chelsea won't have anything wrapped up at all.

I still fancy City, Chelsea, Arse, United.

We are 15 weeks in ffs.

Go to bed pal. Banter another day.

                      Same with Zaba and Sagna.

Our back four is pot luck and has been for a couple of years since Vinny is overpriced in THIS GAME. Can't really on any but when u have one that works u smile.

thanks for explaining the laws of the game, i had no idea the ref had to give the goal for it to count

Southampton put 8 in against Sunderland too .
Just one of those games and Arsenal defence was in a shambles

All these people wanting Yaya did you actually watch the game? Quality penalty dispatch apart he spent the whole game like an OAP pottering round his garden.
Hazard much better pick, if you already have him then id at least wait to see if ADM becomes an option

Yaya has improved leaps and bounds and shows signs of last season recently...

      Did YOU watch the match?

oh yeah coz captained him 🙂
Tone of my post was wong sorry but i can only remember one attempt to get in the box, hoping it was coz protecting ankle. Every time city broke he made no effort to keep up with play

      I Have both.
Agree he looks a "lump" at times , but if you had watched the last 3 games you would have seen that he is showing much improved signs of life.
Being on pens just adds to the attraction

Pellegrini said that there was noway Dzeko could play 80 minutes and that is why he did not bring him in for Aguero.

I think people bringing Edin in for Aguero should think about that. May play around 60-65 in the next few games.

For sure. So many options up front now to choose from. The fact Aguero is the most expensive player means that it's all about which striker suits your team best.

Hot topic. Jonty will make one called "Best Aguero Replacement?" and then there'll be lots of arguing. Followed by lots of lolling@ whichever replacement doesn't score points.

It;s all about where you are positioned imo.
If in top 5 k and aint got Costa , then probably best you get him in.
If you already have him - then there are a number of options.
If you chasing , then again , many options out there

I benched him as well. If that idiotic referee hadn't given a joke penalty to City Baines would have had a clean sheet and bonus. Most annoying.

He seems to have become increasingly injury prone recently and definitely not as commanding as he was two or three years ago. That Mangala is an absolute fruit bat as well and seems on a mission to out-Chambers Chambers in getting at least a yellow card every time he plays.
