Captain Sensible – Gameweek 16

Our weekly members article focussing on the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again this Friday evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

As Fantasy managers reassess their options in light of Sergio Aguero’s knee injury, Diego Costa has emerged as the number one candidate ahead of Chelsea’s home encounter with Hull. The Spain international has earned 36% of the votes cast so far and has scored in all but one of his six home appearances, with only QPR keeping him at bay.

Eden Hazard is hot on Costa’s heels, though. The wide man has received over 27% of the votes after scoring in each of the last four in front of his own fans – Hazard has averaged 10 points per appearance over those fixtures and has collected 10 bonus points, whereas Costa has failed to earn bonus at home since Gameweek 4.

Man City pair Yaya Toure (6%) and Edin Dzeko (3%) are also in contention ahead of a trip to Leicester. Toure has now netted in three of his last four, and with Aguero out of the picture, has dead-ball duties to bolster his appeal – as evidenced by last weekend’s spot-kick winner over Everton. Having just returned from injury, Dzeko will be looking to improve upon a series of displays which have seen him score in only one of his 11 league appearances so far.

Alexis Sanchez has collected 5% of the votes ahead of Arsenal’s home clash with a Newcastle side hit hard by injuries and suspension – a single goal in four since being moved back to the flank is hardly reassuring, though a midweek rest from Champions League duties could re-energise the Chilean. Robin van Persie is also back on the radar. The Dutchman’s brace at St Mary’s on Monday means he’s now bagged three goals and an assist in his last three ahead of a derby encounter at home to Liverpool.

Going on the voting so far, then, both Romelu Lukaku and Wilfried Bony look ideal differentials for Gameweek 16, with around 2% backing them with the armband. Lukaku has scored (and earned bonus) in each of his last four starts at Goodison ahead of QPR’s visit, whilst Bony welcomes Spurs to the Liberty in phenomenal form, after serving up seven goals and an assist in his last nine appearances.

Why's everyone so God damn sure of captaining Hazard over Costa? Haven't you guys seen how much Costa diminishes Hazard's goal scoring potential? Open your eyes!

Who is it that's currently diminishing Costa's goal scoring potential then?

I'd say that's a mixture of fatigue and defenders having sussed him out.

Hazard scored in the last 4 home games. And when he scores he usually gets 3 bonus points. Costa doesnt get 3 bonus points unless he scores two or more goals and the last time he did that was september. Plus he might not even start the game considering drogba's form.

    Wanyama > Nasri

    or

    Wanyama > Oscar

I'd go for Oscar, personally. Apart from that one goal last night Nasri has shown nothing all season that suggests he's a professional footballer.

Are you concerned over Oscar's game time?

          9 years, 6 months ago

No, Oscar's game time doesn't conern me. It's pretty consistent, it's more Willian/Schurrle that are rotation risks. Let's not be under any illusions here - he WILL get less game time than Hazard or Fabregas. That's a fact and you can bet your kidneys on it. But he still the more sensible option right now compared to Nasri. I'd wait a couple weeks before throwing Nasri in and right now I'd pick Ramsey over Nasri too.

I'm looking to offload Wanyama as well though looking at Silva for a put. better average score per game week than Nasri (if he plays).

Which WC team do you prefer, A or B?

    A

    Pantimilon, Harner
    Azpi, Davies, Hutton, Dummett, Yun
    Hazard, YYT, Sanchez, Barkley, Downing
    Diego Costa, Bony, Kane

    B:

    Pantimilon, Hamer
    Azpi, Zabaleta, Hutton, Davies, Yun
    Hazard, YYT, Ramsey, Mirallas, Downing
    Diego Costa, Dzeko, Kane

    Yaya or Silva guys?

Really stuck on this one. Silva is 2 million cheaper than Yaya and Yaya has 4 yellows which is leaning me towards Silva, but then Yaya has hit some form and is on penalties. Really not sure what to do!

    Cheers!

It has to be the Goliath Yaya, you can switch to David when Yaya gets his yellow .

Silva's a big gamble. No form to go by or anything. Not that Yaya isn't a gamble, he's been pants all season, but he's got form on his side and with Aguero's injury and Silva's absence he'll play a prominent role. If Silva wasn't that much cheaper you would've give him so much thought.

Cheers guys. Great replies here. I think I'm going to get Yaya and if Silva's form picks up probably do a straight swap. If it was even a 1mil difference I would have gone for Yaya without any question. Yaya it is!

Just thinking about pros/cons of a 2nd hit esp for a def

    foster
clichy naylor yun --- chetser chamber
    Yaya siggy eriksen sanchez hazard
    Rooney kane --- austin

Thinking of keeping team as it or chambers >> terry (-4....making it -8) for the week

    Cons
    - need Chelsea to keep a cs just to break even
    - I could get away with my current def next gw as yun/naylor/clichy have good fixtures. So can reassess def in gw 18 but there's the case that I would have new issues then to sort out
    - saving the ft means I have have 2m itb so can use to upgrade eriksen/kane if needed

    Pros:
    - chambers should loose his place making him deadwood
    - Dont want deadwood for festive season
    - yun should concede..so assume he scores 2 point...Chelsea I would think have 50 percent chance of keeping a cs on average terry will score 4 points..so 2 point hit. Plus terry could always get a goal
    - terry should play most games during the festive season
    - chambers dropping in value

Hi all.....I'm planning ahead for Xmas....
I'm planning chambers for oshea next week (think chambers will play less now debuchy back and oshea reasonable fixtures.)
this would free up cash for boxing day to allow
Costa and Kane for dzeko and bony for minus 4......can't see Costa playing more than 1 of the Xmas games.....

    Thoughts on this please?

No goalie as both out (Krul, Fabianski)

    Ivanovic, Baines, Bertrand, Azpi (Chambers)
    Toure, Siggy, Fellaini (Wanyama, Boyd)
    Sakho, Costa, Rooney

I'm leaning toward an Azpi captain call. Am I nuts or do you think it could be a good shout? If not, who?

I'd like to captain Baines, but he hasn't been performing lately, albeit, the Toffees have had a tough run and Europa has done them. Don't really want to join the herd and captain Costa, but he could well score a brace

    Costa pelle lukaku(c)

    1. Is this team okay? RMT

      9 years, 6 months ago

      1. In my opinion no. Too expensive defence. iva, clyne, jagileka, taylor >>> azpi, hutton, dummet, wisdom. this way you will upgrade midfield and attack. Pelle Lukaku >> Rooney jovetic or dzeko. Bolasie >> eriksen. You will need time to do these changes but you'll have a better team. Your main problem is that you have a very expensive defence and that you dont cover city's and utd's attack.
      2. downing, siggy or siggy bolasie. But after this GW i would sell bolasie. If you want another cheap midfielder go for Jedinak. Same price and he takes penalties and free kicks.
      3. Lukaku or Costa

          Foster
          Baines--Azpi--Wisdom--Hutton--Dummett
          Hazard--Sanchez--Eriksen--Siggy
          Austin--Costa--Rooney

Thats my team. Baines is the best defender. He takes penalties, free kicks and corners so he scores 150-180 points every season. I will wait this GW to see how City cope without Aguero and then ill choose one City attacker.
Eriksen, Austin >> Downing, Jovetic or Dzeko
Azpi, Eriksen >> cheap defender, Yaya (i already have 1.5 in the bank)
