Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 16

Five more players fell victim of the Suspension Tightrope over the Gameweek 16 action. Villa’s Alan Hutton disappointed his numerous new owners by collecting a fifth yellow of the season during Saturday’s midlands derby loss at West Brom – the right-back will sit out this weekend’s visit of United before returning to action for the Gameweek 18 trip to Swansea.

In terms of Fantasy popularity, Southampton’s Graziano Pelle was the most high-profile – fortunately for his 24% of owners, the Italian will miss tonight’s cup clash with Sheffield United and will therefore be available for the weekend visit of Everton.

The same scenario applies to Newcastle’s Daryl Janmaat. Handed a fifth yellow in the 4-1 loss at Arsenal, he’ll skip Wednesday’s Capital One Cup trip to Spurs but is free to play in the weekend Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

The cases of Tom Cleverley and Tom Huddlestone are a little more complex after both earned their fifth caution last time out. Although Villa’s on-loan Cleverley is ineligible for this weekend’s clash with parent club United, the FA have confirmed that he will still serve the one-match suspension against the Red Devils and will be available for the Boxing Day clash against Swansea.

Huddlestone earned his fifth yellow of the season in Hull’s loss to Chelsea, therefore triggering an automatic one-match ban. The midfielder was then dismissed for serious foul play in the 2-0 loss at the Bridge – which earns three more matches on the sidelines and extends his suspension to four Gameweeks. Huddlestone will therefore sit out three home fixtures (SWA, LEI, EVE) and a trip to Sunderland – he’ll next be available for action on January 4, when the Tigers face Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round.

Villa’s Kieran Richardson is also sidelined through suspension. The midfielder was sent off for serious foul play at the weekend and will miss the next three before returning in time for the New Year’s Day showdown at home to Palace.

The Tightrope now creaks under the weight of 30 players as we head towards Gameweek 17. This week’s new entries include Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, George Boyd, Marouane Chamakh, James Chester, Cheick Tioté, Jordi Gómez, Connor Wickham, Steven Gerrard, Mario Balotelli, Ryan Mason and Ki Sung-Yeung. Balotelli now has 20 PL bookings to his name – exactly the same number as he has Premier League goals.

Diego Costa owners will be a little concerned after the Chelsea striker joined Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole on seven bookings for the season after incurring the referee’s wrath against Hull. Given that the 10-yellow card deadline is in mid-April, Costa will need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of earning another suspension further down the line.

In terms of returning players, Cesc Fabregas, Charlie Austin, Lukas Fabianski, Calum Chambers, Steven Taylor, Moussa Sissoko and Gareth Barry are all back in contention for this weekend. Barry’s caution in Gameweek 15 took him onto 99 Premier League yellows – one more and he’ll be the top-flight’s first centurion for bookings.

    Adrian
    Baines Azpi Yun
    Haz Siggy Sanchez Yaya
    Costa Bony Kane
    4.0 Boyd Saylor Hutton

    So... Change of plan...

    A) Stick
    B) Costa + Baines -> RVP + Demi (-8)

Form and fixtures in mind.. A or B? 😕 I see B outscoring in the long term, even with the -8...

    Guzan (McCarthy)

    Taylor Zab Aspi (Wisdom Dummett)

    Sanchez Hazard Fabregas Downing (Boyd)

    Austin Rooney Bony

Been doing really well last 6 gameweeks, but think my team will start to stagnate pretty soon. What should I look to do?

    Hart
    Clichy Baines Chambers N.Taylor Hutton
    Hazard Sanchez Siggy Chadli Jenas
    Pelle Lukaku Berahino

    ITB: 3.9m.

Got 1FT this week but want to get chadli, pelle, berahino out asap. Where should I look to invest the Aguero money?

I was thinking that but after the next two fixtures for Spurs, they get pretty hard. Would Mata/Di Maria/Silva/Barkley be a more viable option?

The only hard fixture is Chelsea. United defense, except for DDG, is overrated. After those two they have cpl, SUN and wba. Mata/ Di Maria not sorted out. Silva/city offense not sorted out (great fixtures though). Barkley a good punt. I'd still choose Eriksen or Kane.

Just bought Kane in for the next 2 easy fixtures for Spurs and now im seeing that Adebayor is training but wont be playing Newcastle in the week - very worrying!!

What are the chances of Adebayor suffering the same treatment as Chadli and not being involved in a team that is performing better without them?

Only trouble is that because Spurs have Leicester and Burnley it may mean Pochettini will try to re-introduce Ade in these easy fixtures 🙁

In my opinion this is the best week for a very long time when it comes to choosing a captain. There are going to be so many different picks and will go hand in hand with the template being greatly rocked since the Aguero injury.
Last week there were several very strong high priced candidates and most people got it right.
This week it will be a battle of the mid or even budget options.
Yaya stands out a little, but so far is only owned by 11%, making it even more of a lottery.
We are going to see teams rocket, plummet and consolidate.
Good luck everyone, and good luck Downing.
    No Austin.
    No Eriksen.

    Guzan(MU)
    Azpi(stk) Baines(sou) Naylor(Hul)
    Hazard(stk) Sanchez(Liv) Downing(LEI) Siggy(Hul)
    RVP(captain against avl) Austin(WBA) Kane(BUR)

    bench: Krul(injured) Clyne(EVE) Boyd(tot) Hutton(suspended)

With 1FT, what would you do:
    A. Stick
    B. Krul to Hart(CRY) ?
    C. Boyd/Siggy to Eriksen(BUR) ?

Clyne to Demi. If your not playing him home to everton, you wont want to play him in the next few GWs.

How confident are you with RVP captain? Im considering drafting him in this week myself...

pretty confident, he is in great shape and Hutton missing for villa. Always possible that it backfires (or injured in the first minute), as it is for everybody else. 10/2/13/11 last 4 games.

As for the defence, its funny, I thought this was the less urgent matter, this back 3 will do well this week I reckon. Clyne is an expensive substitute, but money is not too much of a problem right now.

Cheers, think I might just bring him in then.

It is a less urgent matter, agreed. Your team looks pretty solid to me. Maybe save. I wouldn't do eriksen. You alrdy have Kane, Spurs are unpredictable and Siggy away to hull, i reckon aint a bad game. Consider Siggy's ownership as well, and how that'll affect you if he scores. Stick. Reassess next week.

I would not do it. I think Siggy + Baines would outscore Sanchez. Yun barely gets points. IMO.

Thinking value (Costa vs. Giroud) and production (cheap defender vs. strong defender), besides a -4 hit, what would be downside of these two trades:

    Costa > Giroud
    Duff > Zabaleta

    Heaton, Guzan
    Baines, Azpi, Dummett, Yun, Duff
    Yaya, Sanchez, Hazard, Downing, Boyd
    Costa, Austin, Bony
