Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 17 – Sunday

Martin Skrtel rescues a late point as Liverpool and Arsenal share the Anfield spoils. Olivier Giroud nets once again for the Gunners, whist Adam Johnson breaks Newcastle hearts by lashing home an injury-time winner in the Tyne-Wear derby at St James’ Park.

Giroud and Cazorla Form Continues

The duo rolled up to Anfield on the back of a brace apiece in last week’s 4-1 win over Newcastle and maintained their strong recent showings in a four-goal thriller. Giroud’s goal means he has now scored four times in six appearances since returning from injury, whilst an assist from Cazorla took his tally to three goals and a pair of assists in his last five. Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck were fielded on the flanks once again to accommodate the Frenchman up front and whilst the Chilean’s owners will have reservations in light of a single strike in six, next weekend’s home clash with QPR should afford him another chance to impress.

At the back, the Gunners continue to look porous in the absence of Laurent Koscielny. Mathieu Debuchy’s first goal of the season suggests that, at a price of 5.2, he could be one to consider if his compatriot returns quickly to help raise their resilience.

Liverpool Midfielders in the Points

For many Fantasy managers, yesterday was an opportunity for Raheem Sterling to stake a claim for a return to our 15-man squads. Handed the central role up front as Brendan Rodgers kept faith in a 3-4-3 formation, Sterling failed to replicate his midweek brace at Bournemouth and was instead overshadowed by Philippe Coutinho’s first-half strike, whilst Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana earned an assist apiece as the Reds salvaged a late point.

The fixtures are now very much in Liverpool’s favour – a trip to Burnley is followed by back-to-back home clashes with Swansea and Leicester before they make their way to Sunderland and Villa. Having fired 27 shots in yesterday’s 2-2 (and 19 in last week’s loss at United), Liverpool have certainly upped their attacking intentions since the new system was introduced and their main men may well force themselves into our plans if they can take advantage of such a schedule.

Skrtel to the Rescue for Reds

The big centre-half header home a late, late leveler to earn the home side a deserved share of the spoils. Liverpool went into yesterday’s match with three clean sheets in the previous four in front of their own fans and whilst they failed to keep the Gunners at bay, Skrtel’s equaliser continued his excellent recent record at Anfield – he’s racked up 34 points in the last five matches on Merseyside. Yesterday’s strike was his first of the season – a far cry from last term’s seven-goal heroics, though the Slovakian has upped his frequency of attempts considerably this term, averaging an effort every 130 minutes compared to 226 minutes in 2013/14.

Defiant Pantilimon Keeps Magpies at Bay

The Black Cats stopper took his tally to 44 points in just eight first-team outings yesterday – an average of 5.5 points per appearance. Aside from their 4-1 home mauling at the hands of City in Gameweek 14, Sunderland have conceded just three goals in their other seven matches with the big Romanian between the sticks. Pantilimon’s seven saves, allied with a couple of bonus points, earned him a second double-figure haul over that period and he remains a real bargain at just 4.5 ahead of back-to-back showdowns with Hull and Villa.

Johnson Leaves it Late

The Wearsiders’ wide man is slowly rediscovering his form after a barren first few months. Johnson managed just a single goal over the opening 15 rounds of fixtures but, after providing the assist for Jordi Gomez’ strike last week, he stepped up once again to fire a 90th-minute winner to seal the points. Whilst his last-gasp strike grabbed the headlines, it remains to be seen whether Johnson, or indeed any of Gus Poyet’s side, can stake a claim for our consideration – given that Sunderland have scored just four goals in the last seven Gameweeks, the safer bet would be on their backline.

seems like a silly transfer to me but it could work. Rotation is hard to predict and Sanchez is highly owned and could do some damage. Depends if you need the money for another transfer i guess.

Depending on any possible injuries in the game tonight i think im sticking with my team as it is because two fts will be very handy for the next gw. So my only decision is whether to play boyd or downing. Downing is in great form but chelsea away is the worst fixture going...

    Cheers for any replies.

I know this could bite me because one is guaranteed to play all games over the next few weeks and the other isn't but I can't justify 7.3M for 1 point returns. Not sure whats going on with Everton at the moment but they look very poor.

        When is Mirallas due back?

I already have Demi but I think he will get dropped once Kompany is back which is meant to be this week or next? Or Mangala will pick up a YC which will guarantee him another game.

But either way I don't mind doubling up for a few weeks due to their fixtures and I'm going for Zab for his attacking returns and the fact that I can't see any better options in that price bracket?

    4. And we all have legs
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Im seriously considering it too but bit worried about Zab's minutes.

Also, my main rival is keeping Baines and I don't want to give him a differential like Baines over me.

      Tough choice.

Now he's had his rest I think he will be ok.

I wouldn't hold him for that reason but I understand where you are coming from.

I think Baines is great FPL player but nearly all FPL players have periods where you don't need to own them and I think this is it for Baines. I will probably get him back in at a later date.

I'd say this was it for Baines. The only reason I didn't transfer him out before was that I would like to bring him back in about now and didn't think it would be worth a -4.

I do. If not as much as a semi-big hitting midfielder, still probably more than the other defenders (bar the City ones), and as price really is not an issue atm, I prefer keeping him to spending a transfer on getting someone less sure.

Guys thoughts on this WC plan would be appreciated, as it's a big change to my current lineup:

The plan would be to rotate Debuchy/Bertrand, and Austin/Kane/Downing according to fixtures.

And when kun is back, Siggy and Kun would swap for Silva and Costa.

    Guzan / Given

    Azpilicueta / Zabaleta / Debuchy / Bertrand / Wisdom

Silva / Hazard / Di Maria / Downing / Sanchez

    Kane / Costa / Austin

    OFF Topic:
Best place to get Automobile's update? And is there any site where I can learn about Automobiles from core concepts to everything?
    Thanks!

I'm sitting in the top 5k and looking around I seem to have an extremely low TV - £103.5m. I did lose a bit of money on Aguero and Fab transfers out but I'm between £1.5m and £2.0m behind most people with a similar points total.

I haven't played my WC which I know will have made a bit of a difference but I'm surprised I'm laggng so far behind

Same as you and I've played mine. Pick the right players and we will do OK.

I wanna get rid of Costa, but if he scores a couple goals tonight I'll be forced to keep!

Need to make room for Silva! 🙂

He's playing up front, has good fixtures and getting into scoring positions. Feels to me like the points will come these coming weeks.

Fixtures and form would both say Nasri to me.

How many subs do you guys think our teams will generally need?

    1, 2 or 3?

I haven't needed 2 yet, but with the fixture list piling up I'm wondering if its necessary to have 3 subs sat waiting? Can't decide wether to leave Duff in and change Marney to Bolasie or possibly just change Duff to a Utd defender, leaving Marney, Hutton & Duff.

At least two, I guess .. Utd defenders are not worth it , Get sunderland def IMO

If Clichy plays on the 26th, Kolarov must surely be nailed for their home tie against Burnley on the 28th. A valid captaincy pick?

Surely whoever plays on Boxing day will not play on 28th.

This goes for most of the other players too, meaning that we'll be struggling to get 10 players fielded both GW's.
