Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 19 – Monday

Adam Lallana scores twice as Liverpool ease past Swansea at Anfield. Alberto Moreno, Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho all serve up the points, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson prods home the visitors’ consolation.

Lallana at the Double

The summer signing threw his hat in the ring as a viable differential for our five-man midfields by bagging a brace in last night’s comprehensive 4-1 win. Fielded on the right of a front three once again, Lallana has started each of the last six Gameweeks and, with three strikes and an assist over that period, he is becoming increasingly influential in Brendan Rodgers’ 3-4-3 formation. Certainly, at a cost of 8.3, he’s far from budget friendly but the Reds upcoming fixtures (LEI, sun, avl, WHM) looks set to bring their main men onto our radars as they belatedly hit their stride.

Henderson in the Points as Rodgers Rings the Changes

Rodgers’ decision to make four alterations saw Steven Gerrard drop to the bench as the versatile Henderson moved into central midfield, allowing Javier Manquillo the right wing-back berth. Handed a share of set-pieces in his captain’s absence, Henderson laid on two of his side’s goals – taking his tally to three assists in the last trio of matches.

At 6.0, the former Sunderland man is a lot easier on the budget than the likes of Lallana, Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho ahead of the kind run of matches and looks nailed on, regardless of formation. Coutinho also ticked over by picking up an assist last night, whilst Sterling, in spite of an impressive shift through the centre, delivered a frustrating blank after hitting the woodwork twice.

Rodgers’ tinkering also saw Alberto Moreno get amongst the goals. Fielded as a left wing-back, the Spaniard’s opener served notice of his possible out-of-position potential, though it remains to be seen whether he can nail down a regular role – he’d started just two of the seven league outings prior to last night. Elsewhere at the back for Rodgers’ side, Martin Skrtel earned a fifth caution of the campaign, meaning he’ll miss Thursday’s clash with the Foxes.

Siggy Remedies Travel Sickness

Whilst Wilfried Bony served up a blank before being subbed off on the hour mark, the Swansea midfielder notched for the second successive Gameweek. Sold by over 200,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers in the last 10 days, Sigurdsson’s failure to produce attacking returns in each of his previous six road trips saw him take a place on many a Fantasy manager’s bench last night – many were left ruing that decision after a close-range effort spoiled the Reds’ clean sheet and took him up to fourth in the FPL midfield standings.

With Bony set to leave imminently for the Africa Cup of Nations, there were concerns over the Icelandic international’s points potential, but judging by the last two matches, it seems he’s found his scoring touch just in time to cushion the blow of the Ivorian’s departure.

      Why all the Huttons?

As Chelsea have proved, the can keep a CS anywhere (even on a cold, monday night in Stoke). Spurs are one of the most inconsistent teams, Terry by a country mile.

I disagree. Bolasie and Zaha always look treating with their pace and skills, just lack the finish. Always trust the top defence with a bad fixture over a poorer defence with a good fixture.

Well not really, frequently with Aguero here the captaincy choice wasn't as tough...

          9 years, 5 months ago

Read back through any articles where even Aguero was playing and you'll see this kind of post every two minutes. Even when there's an obvious choice, people want to find the differential to help them climb.

I meant even when Aguero or Costa were obvious choices, this was still being asked. And since Aguero got injured, every week has been an opportunity to do something different. No any one week is any more of an easy/tough choice than the other. They're all important to get right, whether that's with a punt or the most popular pick.

because normally there is a higher percent captaining one player, if he does well or poor the majority rank is effected either side. you could be one of only 3,ooo who get it right and soar without these circumstances

Moore- not in favour since about the 5th GWK

Watched the Pool Swans game last night and was monitoring Sterling. Even tho he is playing as striker, he didnt get into points and Pool scored 4 goals. IMO main reason for it is that on every counter attack defenders focus on him knowing his speed and pace and by doing that allowing other Pool midfielders who are coming from behind more space, that beeing a reason for Lallanas brace. Pool had a lot of dangerous attacks and not many of them finished by getting the ball to Sterling. Also his shooting from outside of box is very poor, and if he dont get the ball behind defence he's unlikely to score, and since in next couple of weeks Pool is playing teams that will defend with 10 man probably i'm not so sure is he really that good option.

Eh, I'm not sure that LEI, avo and sun with defend with 10 men (although AVL might when they get another red card :D) as that would be playing into LFC's hands.

Decent point you make about Sterling though.

Well summed up I think. Midefielders playing up front often works better on paper than in real life, and Sterling is better suited behind a front man, working the spaces with his pace

      1. Ballhog Coutinho doesn't pass the ball once he is anywhere near the 18, selfish
      2. Raheem had his chances, just didn't capitalize (hit the post twice)
      3. Santa gifted Lallana his first goal (Fabianski failed to clear)

Last night Swans played terrible in defence, i think they allowed about 15 chances for Pool, and Sterling getting only 2-3 of those 15 is not to good, Swans let way to much space for Pool mids, if i was a Leicester manager i would get 10 man behind the ball and force Pool mids to play under pressure and force them to croos the ball in the box because noone can get on the end of those crosses cuz they are preety small (Ster, Cout, Lallana etc.) In recent weeks Pool was struggling agains a weaker opponents who are playing defensivly.

disagree, swans played tight enough on paper they just couldnt handle the pace of liverpool attack and Sterling plays a big part in that, he did hit the inside of the post

Hm, i think the opposite, i think that Swans had to many players that dont defend or are poor at it, Bony and Sigy basicly dont help defence, Shelvy is just to slow and Dyer and Routlege are also primary attack oriented players imo.

We need some big January transfer signings, it's all a bit template at the mo.

Oooh nearly, bang on 7 here.

Not really in need of Jan signings methinks, there are a few to come back etc.

ADM back, City strikers return, Aguero returns, players like Gomis steps in while Bony leaves for AFCON, perhaps some so far quiet players find strong form etc.

Though I would like Michu back 😉

Oh and Wally coming back as well will definitely shake things up.

        By my count it'll be

Wally Fabs Haz Sanchez ADM Silva (no Yaya because of AFCON) Eriksen/Siggy Downing/Boyd all trying to get a place in the team. Then there are the likes of Cazorla who could push for inclusion as well. Up top we're seeing the emergence of Bojan become a factor. Then we have the likes of Tekkers and Lukaku who really haven't been going as well as one would expect. Changes are a-coming 😉

Think its quite normal at any point in seasons, with a core like that. But its funny how having just 2-3 different players than your rival can swing the point gap quite much in one single gw.

Nothing you can do about the template

I dunno, suppose i don;t like the idea of playing for a clean sheet - if Palace score in the first min then thats Hutton more a less written off whilst Kane could always snatch one even if Chelsea win by 5 goals.

Who do I bring in now - Silva, Sterling or Lallana? I am kind of chasing in my mini league. My previous few weeks haven't been great leading to consecutive red arrows for me.

The rest of the team is like this:

    Heaton - Adrian

Clyne - Zaba - Ivan - Wisdom -Chambers

    Hazard - Downing - Sanchez - Wanyama - Bolasie

    Costa - Austin - Kane

I have 4.0 Mil ITB and 1 FT -thinking of shipping out Bolaise for one of the above 3 but can't decide. Help would be much appreciated.
