The Big Numbers – Gameweek 21

With Gameweek 21 done and dusted, we dig deep into the data in our regular Sunday evening article. A trio of in-form midfielders at Arsenal, Man City and Swansea are amongst tonight’s topics, whilst we also assess United’s alarming attack, Burnley’s raiding right-back and the main men for West Brom and Palace as Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew kick-start their respective stints at the helm with a victory.

    Bottom of last sorry..

    Foster - Myhill
    Gardos - Luis - Hutton - PVA - Wisdom
    Hazard - Sanchez - ADM - Chadli - JWP
    Kun - Costa - Kane

Thoughts on this WC team lads?

Gardos is with Toby out and Yoshida at Asian cup. PVA and Wisdom surely are?

But for how long. Nothing is certain as of today.
Wisdom is not. Pulis is still figuring out his defense.
And PVA maybe for now but looked bad against Pool this week.

PvA is a defensive liability. He lost his place at Vitesse half way through last season because of it. Sunderland have defended much better since he got injured. And he came back today and was at fault for the goal.

I think once Reveillere is fit (soon) PvA will spend a lot of time on the bench unless Poyet decides to play him at left midfield.

Upgrade Gardos to Clyne or Bertrand and get another cheapie, maybe Cameron, but there are lots to choose from

        What about Gardos/Luis --> Bertrand/Cameron?

That would leave me without a Chelsea defender but allows me to keep Costa. Thoughts?

I'm so tempted to get Baines back in. Have the exact funds for him.

My team with Baines would be:

    Foster, Hamer
    Baines, Terry, Bertrand, Wisdom, Wasi
Sanchez, Hazard, Di Maria, Fab, Boyd
    Austin, Aguero, Kane

    0 ITB, WC active

Thoughts? Could I do better with my money?

    2. Ruth_NZ
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Defenders are by far the best value players overall this season and Terry/Baines score highly amongst them. I think it's a great idea.

Personally I'd do Foster, Myhill and maybe take a cheaper option than Boyd (unless you already have him) but other than that it looks good if you are set on going without Costa.

      1. ACE IN THE HOLE
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

For now, I've replaced Baines with Cresswell but may change it last minute. I kept Hamer as a punt with the home game against stoke and Foster away to everton. Will transfer Hamer out shortly after that game - perhaps.

I got Boyd in when he was 4.6. Just seen he has gone up. Is there a cheaper option getting 50+ points?

Yes, I have deliberated on Costa but will stick to my guns. Time will tell...

        Cheers

At least two of Sanchez, Ozil, Walcott, Cazorla and Oxlade-Chamberlain are going to be on the bench every week for Arsenal - more if Ramsey/Wilshere play in an advanced role, or if Welbeck plays out wide.

Sanchez has to be nailed on to start every match whilst he's fit, Cazorla (particularly) and the Ox are both in good form, whilst Ozil is their record signing. I know he's FPL gold when he's starting games, but Theo is far from guaranteed the gametime he needs to be even a viable option this season - let alone a good one.

To be honest I don't see the fascination on here as it stands with him.

there is no contest between alexis and wally this season. anyone who parts with sanchez so easily is kidding themselves. But the fascination with wally stems from his last 2 seasons where he was a machine when fit

Can't rule him out for the entire season! Of course form plays a part but Walcott and Ozil will usually be first choice not Ox or Cazorla

What do you think of having Baines over Terry for the next two GWs and then switching to Terry/Ivan for Chelsea's nice run. Going without Chelsea defensive cover scares me though and Everton have been dire.

Not having defensive cover is not something I subscribe to. A clean sheet is four points no matter where you find it. If you think Baines will get more points than Terry over the next two and that is the best way to improve your team then you should do it.

The general consensus is that the bigger teams defences get better returns in the second half of the season and the budget rotation options falter.

Chelsea aside, many of the 'bigger teams' such as Arsenal, Utd and City seem to be less assured at the back this season - so do you think the usual trend will prevail again this season?

    Thoughts.

Driving up the coast of new zealand and I'm on this ha the missus is going mad so last question and thanks !

    Would you

    A) Zabaleta to Sot Def for free and if so Berty or Clyne?
    Or
    B) Zabaleta and Austin to Aguero and 5.5? What Def? (-4)

haha good luck with the missus mate! I would probably go A for now then on WC bring in Kun. If Austin snags one against united the -4 won't be worth it

Cause Bony is a back up for Aguero and not going to replace Aguero anytime soon.

Then you should buy him! And let us buy Aguero then. Looks like you have some secret city source that we all have no clue about!

aguero is a better player but if you used your brain you'll realise city will play with 2 up front now, bony will steal his pts

Is there anything you would change? I've about . 7mil to play around with. However after all the price rises I miss out on I'm not sure how much I've left.

I'd get Wisdom in for Baird. Downgrade Terry and double Soton defense. And get a rotating keeper to go with Foster. That's me 😀

Thanks man for the suggestions! You think Southampton could keep on their amazing run of cs they had this season? Yea the Baird and wisdom thing will be monitored till I finally make my decision.

Doubling up on Sunderland and not wba? I won't put too much trust on double Sunderland defenders.
