Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 22 – Sunday

Santi Cazorla bags a goal and assist as Arsenal emerge victorious from the Etihad. Olivier Giroud also finds the net, whilst the Gunners’ defence keep Sergio Aguero at bay with a second successive shut-out. Earlier in the day, Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing are amongst the goals as West Ham register a comprehensive win over struggling Hull.

Cazorla Steers Gunners to Victory

The little Spaniard stole the show in yesterday’s stunning win at the Etihad by bagging a goal and assist in the 2-0 triumph. Whilst Alexis Sanchez had a rare off-day, Cazorla’s form continues to suggest he offers a viable double-up option alongside the Chilean in our starting line-ups – he’s now racked up five goals, two assists and 11 bonus points in his last eight appearances. Owned by just 3% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, the 8.2-priced playmaker has home clashes against Villa, Leicester and Everton, allied with trips to Palace and QPR in the next six, as the schedule smiles kindly on Arsene Wenger’s side.

Elsewhere in the Gunners attack, Olivier Giroud notched a fourth goal in five appearances to also come into contention ahead of the aforementioned run of fixtures. Also setting us back 8.2, the Frenchman is very much in the differential bracket, too – sitting in just 4% of FPL teams, he’s another who’s sure to come in for increased investment as Wildcards are wielded over the fortnight’s break from league action.

Arsenal Defence on the Up

It’s two clean sheets in as many matches for the north London side after nullifying the threat of Sergio Aguero and co. Given that last week’s home shut-out against Stoke was the Gunners’ first in seven attempts, little was expected from their defenders ahead of the Etihad visit but yesterday’s resilient display is sure to bring their backline onto our radars. With Mathieu Debuchy ruled out for three months, Wenger’s decision to select Hector Bellerin ahead of Calum Chambers at right-back is sure to pique our interest – at 4.4, he could be a real bargain if he can keep ahead of the summer signing, though David Ospina, at 4.8, also looks an option after getting the nod between the posts once again.

City Struggles in Toure’s Absence

With Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero back in the starting XI, much was expected of the champions – over 187,000 FPL managers drafted in the Argentine prior to the weekend deadline but his owners picked up no more than a single point, after he earned a late yellow card. Bearing in mind that City now travel to Stamford Bridge when league action resumes in two weeks’ time, the bandwagon may be temporarily slowed down until Gameweek 24. From that point on, Manuel Pellegrini’s troops host Hull, Newcastle and Leicester and also travel to Stoke and Burnley – by then, Aguero’s match sharpness will be fully up to speed and few will be willing to go without over such an enticing stretch of fixtures.

The champions have now failed to win any of their four league matches without Yaya Toure this season. Worryingly for Pellegrini, if the midfielder and new Etihad team-mate Wilfried Bony reach the Africa Cup of Nations final on February 8, they would likely miss the next three league matches, given that the Gameweek 25 trip to Stoke is on February 11.

Carroll and Downing Deliver

Sam Allardyce started with a 4-2-3-1 for yesterday’s clash against Hull, with Andy Carroll leading the line and Stewart Downing tucked in behind. A half-time switch to a midfield diamond saw the pair grab a goal apiece in an easy 3-0 win over the struggling Tigers – Carroll now has five strikes in his last eight, whilst Downing’s efforts took his tally to three goals and a pair of assists over the same period. Downing has now climbed into fourth spot in the FPL midfield standings on 116 points. but with showdowns against Liverpool, United, Southampton, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal in the next seven Gameweeks, it remains to be seen how many of his 26% owners will keep the faith.

Tigers Toil Again

West Ham went into yesterday’s encounter with just a single clean sheet in the previous eight. With both their main forwards sidelined through injury, though, Hull were unable to take advantage of their hosts’ poor defensive form and drew yet another blank – alarmingly for Steve Bruce, his side have now failed to score in six of the last eight Gameweeks. Still stuck in the drop zone, Hull now have three vital home encounters (NEW, AVL, QPR) against sides in the bottom half of the table to boost their survival plight. Sone Aluko – classified as a midfielder in FPL and priced at 4.6 – led the line at Upton Park after recovering from a calf complaint and could offer Fantasy managers an out-of-position prospect, for those who believe Bruce’s side can profit from those upcoming matches.

Monreal's spot to lose for now. Gibbs has regressed a little bit (hampered by injuries). He'll start in the FA Cups games and try and win his way back in that way - but for the foreseeable Monreal starting LB.

Like I say, used to be clear cut, not so any more. Monreal's made it hard not to be picked.

I think people are slightly blinded by the games they saw of Monreal at make shift centre half - which clearly isn't a great barometer. At LB he's been excellent.

I'm a big Gibbs fan but Monreal has improved so much that for the moment he's overtaken him.

Our cheeky Sanchez cleansheet (c) didn't actually work out too bad in a week where Kane was the most captained! 😉

It was the amount of times he got beaten on the inside in his early days. If he forces the player out wide he wins every time, but the lack of a second foot is a big loss if he isnt clever.

        It's true 😆

Tbh the only one I'm not confident on is Cazorla. Bellerin is cheap enough to be worth the risk, Jones is nicely priced and has decent fixtures, and Puncheon looks back to his old self under Pardew.

Nice.. goin similar.. However i've gone
Downing, Terry, Panti, Krul over Courtois, Hamer, Jones, Boyd and i advise you to do similar with GKs

      1. Give The Todd Some Love
        • 12 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

Rotating GKs always fck me over, much easier and cheaper to just play Courtiois every week. Terry is so expensive

        1. Billy Gilmore
          • 12 Years

Cheap GKs score more than their defensive counterparts. Expensive GKs don't.

Cheap GKs are more expensive than their defensive counterparts, ie Foster and Wisdom. Courtois is considerably cheaper than Terry. I think the difference in points is minimal so I'm more concerned about price to make sure I can fit everyone else in.

dont rotate.. just get Panti then.. the save points will put him right up there pointswise end of the season.. use the spare cash to get Terry in

not that much.. hence why i'm going Panti and Krul 😆 .. i've had Panti since he was 4.4 though and i'm pretty sure he's outscored every keepr in the game since

RP: Faced with a dilemma here, and would really appreciate your help. 🙂

So, just got back from Nepal and thought this was the last week to use your WC. So I brought in Downing and Trippier for a hit for some TV (for Cazorla and Debuchy) thinking I was gonna hit the button anyway, and could bring Cazorla back in if he smashed it against City.

Now I realise the fixtures aren't that great for a WC this week, and I don't have to play it this week.

Do I suffer the -4 and crap transfers or do I continue with the WC?

    Cheers

the players i want in will be at a higher price though.. Puncheon/Cazorla will be a min. of 0.1 more and Silva/Austin look like they are headed for a fall. might as well save some cash and make my perfect WC team 🙂

        Next gw.

Better set of fixtures for the top teams.
Lot of players back from injuries and ACON.
Gives more time to find out if the likes of Baird etc are nailed on.

Pocognoli back from injury. Maybe eased in. 1 more gw will give more clarity.

The Chambers-Bellerin situation would be more clear as well.

Think I might need to get rid to give me 4 big hitting mids.

        Ospina(+.4m) - Krul
        Terry - Wisdom - Gardos(+.2m) - PVA - Hutton
        Sterling - ADM - Hazard - Sanchez - Boyd
        Agüero - Costa - Kane

That's what I'm looking to do atm

Sorry if this is a silly question , is there any place out there to find the percentages of the top 10k with Baines, and WBA single or double up defences tonight ? Curious as I'm all out already

          Smarty Pants knows.
Given 0.8 players left on average for top 10K, not too many.
2 defenders near 20% and Foster at 13%.

Szczesny looks like falling this week down to 5.2, so grabbing Ospina on wc and keeping .4m itb looks like a good move to me - cheap route into Arsenal backline.
Probably worth doing the same with Gardos and .2m itb for TobyA when back from injury.

How? I don't see much from Aguero,Silva,Fabianski,Downing,Siggy,Wisdom,Zabaleta. I can sell Zaba for a Soton defender and play

                Fabiaski
                Wisdom Bertie/Clyne Janmaat
                Downing Sanchez Hazard Silva
                Austin kane Kun

                Would that team do well?

well, they were supposed to do well this gw and it turned out they've earned you 29pts.
can't be much worse than that.
sell zaba for koscielny and play your wc in the final week.
                  I regret playing mine early.

29 points is very bad and my ML rivals are catching up with me.

I don't expect CSs from Wisdom and Fabianki and no attacking returns from Silva either. If I WC, I'll probably have ADM/Eriksen,Bertie,Terry,Panti atleast in my team.

Very similar to mine, same mids.
Im thinking maybe just Zaba to Jones or Koscielny and wait with WC one week. But so tempting to use it if price changing coming for players you wanna get.

Ok why wait is my question? The only reason I can see is waiting for the transfer market to close but I don't see much activity from the top teams especially on the attacking front. The other reason could be not having 3 Chelsea before the city game.

The downside would be missing the great fixtures Sunderland,Utd,Arsenal,Sunderland,Stoke will have next GW and I am assuming we all want players from these teams on WC.

Those bringing in Cazorla should watch out for Ozil. Even in formations where both start he will be taking some of the initiative away from Cazorla around the box.

FA Cup selection makes things a bit trickier. Ordinarily perfect time to give your sub keeper a game - but this time it's a bit more loaded than that.
