Suspensions

Costa Charged by FA

The FA have this evening confirmed that Diego Costa has been charged with violent conduct as a result of his behavior during last night’s cup semi-final win over Liverpool. Chelsea’s summer signing was involved in a couple of stamping altercations, first with Emre Can and then later with Martin Skrtel, but both incidents were missed by the match officials at the time.

Upon revision, the referee has conceded that Costa would have received his marching orders had he witnessed the Can flashpoint, though the FA have confirmed they will not pursue the Skrtel incident. The player has until 6pm tomorrow evening to appeal the decision and, if found guilty, he’s set to serve a three-match ban. Comparisons have been made to a ban that Mario Balotelli received in 2012 when a four-match suspension was dished out for a similar incident. This, however, was due to the striker already seeing red earlier that season for City at Liverpool.

A potential three-match ban would see Costa miss Saturday evening’s vital home encounter against City – a match which could take Jose Mourinho’s men eight points clear of the defending champions at the summit. He would also sit out the following two league matches against Villa and Everton before returning to contention in time for the Gameweek 26 plum home clash against Burnley.

It’s fair to say that a possible ban would have massive repercussions right across the Fantasy games, all the more so in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) where, with an ownership in excess of 60%, Costa is the most popular player. In a week that has also seen Gylfi Sigurdsson banned for a trio of league outings, an unfavourable outcome may persuade many to hit the winter Wildcard button and restructure.

As mentioned in this morning’s Scout Notes, though, Chelsea could yet have a double Gameweek 28 if Leicester – their previously scheduled opponents for Gameweek 27 – are knocked out of the FA Cup by Villa midway through next month. This would free up both clubs for the weekend of March 7-8, as the Blues are also no longer in the latter competition after their shock home loss to Bradford.

With Sergio Aguero back to full fitness and Daniel Sturridge expected to return for Liverpool this weekend, our premium-priced alternatives are on the rise, whilst over at the Bridge, Didier Drogba and Loic Remy are set to do battle for the role of lone striker in Jose Mourinho’s 4-2-3-1.

It's a real boon to folks like myself on WC already.

You don't just change him alone, you basically change the whole complexion of your team.

Yep. Could've lived with it if i didn't already have Siggy as well, or used up a free transfer before the suspensions.

Feels a bit like I've been cheated out of a decent differential since everyone will offload him now but I think I'm being a bit silly really - can only be good for me in FPL if a highly owned player I don't own or want misses a few games.

Yeah i can understand that, being in your position. Would've been a very nice differential to not own him against City.

Shame i used mine last week...!

Means i'm prob going to have to use my 2nd one in GW 28 to get him back (if DGW confirmed)

The best thing about this ban is I can now properly ignore Costa knowing the spotlight will be firmly on him going forward and he won't be able to help himself.

*** Got stuck at the end of last article, so.

Have a go here. Things so much better with the Costa news.

    Ospina, Krul,
Bertrand, Wisdom, Wollscheid, Naughton, van Aanholt,
    Sterling, ADM, Sanchez, Hazard, Lucas,
    Kane, Aguero, Giroud.

    0.8 in bank.

    * Needs improvement in defence, right?

I can't say about Oscar, but a lot were gonna get Giroud on wildcard anyway, before the Costa incident. Best option to double up on Arsenal attack imo.

Fabregas will probably be okay anyway, so can't see many Oscar in transfers for him

should still be a nice ML differential. Can't see Giroud's ownership going up too much, many people were on Costa, Kane, Austin, Costa likely to become Aguero

I'm shipping, don't have a lot tied up in him

                    My plan has always been

Kun,. Giroud +1, which will now be Defoe

That's actually a real kick in the balls re: Costa. Those fixtures were looking so ace after this weekend. I've had him from GW1 as well.

Assume we're looking at 3 game ban, BUR, blank...

On another note. Phil Dowd is a real douche. He was looking straight at it. Help your ref out and deal with it at the time. He thinks he's such good mates with all the managers.,..i bet they just think he's a tubby idiot.

    Costa replacements everyone?

Giroud - the likely majority choice. Steady eddie, good fixtures
RVP - great fixtures, poor form
Defoe - Go with Aguero/two cheapies and boost the hell out of your midfield
Sturridge - Cash in the bank hoping he explodes on his return

    Any more?
