My random musings on the price rise/fall system this year.
I decided on a TV maximisation strategy early on, taking hits for price increases and avoiding price drops over the scoring potential of the player.
Seeing how the adjustments played out I felt like a total fool by December, seeing how far behind I was on points, and the TV increases are much lower than last year. Huge downside + minimal upside.
But then I began to realise that the converse is true. Whereas last year the much higher TV rendered TV irrelevant as the top teams had enough money to get all the top players, this year, there isn’t enough money to do so. My 106m+ Sale Value is now coming to the fore.
Assuming all teams have the final third of the season template of, say, Aguero, Costa, Kane, Sanchez, Hazard, Terry, Clyne/Bertrand, Wisdom, Hutton, Boyd this means I have an extra 6m to spend on my 6 differentials, i.e. over 1 million more per player. I can get 5 Walcotts for the average 5 Coutinho/Tadic. I can explore Sturridge, YYT, Ozil while most teams have to break template to do so. I can bring in Lloris for his DGW while most have rotating cheapies.
In essence the big decision I have to make now is when to start bringing in the differentials. If I do it too late, I am not utilising the extra money.

Example: Sanchez PP 10.4 SP 10.9 CP 11.4
GOLDEN RULE: SALE PRICE IS THE ONLY PRICE THAT MATTERS
1. Unless you have a plan to get back a player in the next 3 weeks, Current Price is irrelevant to your decision to sell/hold. If say Sanchez sits out those 3 weeks due to injury/RC, you have lost 10.9 value sitting on your bench instead of a 4.3, i.e. 6.6m/week loss. Also when you buy back later, your value is reset and historical ownership is irrelevant, i.e. buy high sell high, or buy low sell low.
2. Purchase Price is also irrelevant. In the example, Sanchez was bought for 10.4 but he costs me 10.9 to hold since I would have 10.9 (not 10.4) to spend elsewhere, i.e. his opportunity cost is 10.9 not 10.4.At the top end most of your opponents won't have a sale value of £100m though, so your advantage may not be as great as you seem to be suggesting.
Indeed, top teams have top players by definition and they increase with points. Top 1k has TV of 106. That's SV of about 103-4.
This is my first season so I'm unfamiliar how the price rises worked last year.

If so, when do you plan to start taking 'punts' if you will ? Obviously depends on your rank, but lets say you are 100 pts behind the leader. Assuming everything goes as planned and you make up lets say 10 points a GW, then you need 10 GWs to make up the deficit.
Is that (10 pts) feasible?
Being that there are 14 GWs left, would you advise for people like myself who are so far behind (mainly due to rookie mistakes and negligence) to start bringing in the differentials right now? And my main point as you surmised - 14 GWs left, so differentials MUST start now!
Also doesn't matter where you are. You play in your league. Not many are within 100 of the leader (I'm definitely not). Set your own targets, ML, +50 of you etc.Captains are essentially a roll of the dice. Hard to differentiate players on their captain choosing abilities.
I sold Sanchez at 10.8 and bought him back a week later at 11.2. Is that good business?
No but it was the correct decision then.

7 - 2 each from Chelsea and City and 1 each from Palace, Saints and WBA.

What is the % of captainers for Arsenal players out of the overall like? I was surprised to see a green arrow with my miserable 22 points and captain played with 5 to play. My 5 are Terry,Clyne,Hazard,ADM and Kun. If results go kindly tonight (Chelsea CS and something from Hazard,Soton CS, good returns from ADM or Kun), do I keep the green arrow or can the captaincy fail kill me?
I would say the vast majority of people have captained an arsenal player so you will be fine

I really think you can keep the green arrow - since most people have captained an ARS player. And even if other captaincy candidates i.e Haz Kun score well, you still got 'em.
Unless some players you don;t pick do well, like Jones or Silva - which is what I'm hoping for since I got 'em. 🙁avg was in the teens for the top 1k i believe

Fact: Even Sanchez points will decline with rotation, fewer minutes, and no longer being the primary creative outlet to pass to. I doubt we will see a 2 goal haul from him for awhile
ARS will outperform their early season, score more goals, thump teams. I am out as I cannot guarantee my chosen midfielder or striker will score, assist or get BAPS.
You can't expect your arsenal midfielder of choice to score every week. Sanchez, Ozil are the prime candidates for me as they are the most nailed on. Ozil will take some set pieces and is a creator, Sanchez has loads of goal threat. They will continue to pick up the points.
How quickly last night turned from euphoria of finding out Sanchez was playing up front to reading the comments like 'Sanchez is dead'... 'Sanchez head has fallen off'...etc especially when you've taken armband off Hazard and given it to him. Haven't enjoyed an FPL game week for weeks now due to constantly getting captain choice wrong.
Almost getting to the point where you put in on Kane and leave it. Dead team in my league has that. Been doing well in the H2H's!
I think that unless Aguero starts scoring heavily again, I'm just going to rotate captain on Hazard and Kane every week from now on.

As long as you can justify the decision, you can't really be upset. Best player in FPL was rested, hungry and playing the team in last place at home. And he was put as a CFWD in a 4-3-3. Plenty of reasons to captain. Just didn't work out.
Seems like the 'obvious' choice is not really ideal. May have to rethink our strategy and captain someone else that is not the popular pick.Yeah, frustrating as hell but at least I'm hardly alone. Although I have Hazard, my ML rival has captained him, so will be watching tonight's game through my fingers and try not to throw the remote through the screen when bags a brace and removes me from the top of my league!
