Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 25

The midweek fixtures took their toll on a number of players, as we take our usual post-Gameweek look at the new injuries across the Premier League.

Arsenal
Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey were both withdrawn due to injury in Arsenal’s win over Leicester on Tuesday evening. The Chilean picked up a problem early on as a result of a challenge from Matthew Upson and lasted 68 minutes before making way, with Arsene Wenger revealing:

“Sanchez got a knock on his knee. I don’t think he was himself. From the moment he got this knock, he was never really comfortable. I was ready to take him off at half-time but he said, ‘no it’s okay, I can go on’. When I watched him play I thought, ‘No, that hasn’t [got better]’. Sometimes when you run it off it’s just a kick but he became worse and I didn’t see him in the second half. I don’t know for how long he will be out and whether he will be out or not. I haven’t seen the doctor.”

The Gunners boss also raised concerns over Ramsey, who lasted just nine minutes as a sub before being forced off. Reports have subsequently suggested the Welshman could be set for up to a month on the sidelines.

“It doesn’t look good when a guy stops straight away and sits down. I left him out [of the starting lineup] to be cautious with him. I put him on and it was not the best of decisions. I can’t say it’s not a worry because after a while, the player cannot play with a free mind. He’s not over-played. I don’t know why this is.”

Chelsea
Oscar missed last night’s win over Everton, with Jose Mourinho explaining:

“Oscar has a minor muscular problem. If we played him today, it is possible we would lose him for a few weeks”

Crystal Palace
Yaya Sanogo lasted less than half an hour of last night’s draw with Newcastle before sustaining a hamstring injury.

Leicester
In his first league start for the Foxes, Matthew Upson was replaced just before the hour mark as a precaution, according to the Foxes website.

Liverpool
The Reds’ assistant boss Colin Pascoe had plenty to discuss during this morning’s press conference. Pascoe revealed the club are awaiting news on the injury that forced Steven Gerrard off against Spurs on Tuesday night:

“Unfortunately, he felt his hamstring just towards the end of the game. He’s having a scan this morning and we’re just waiting for the results to come back on that one.

Pascoe also confirmed Raheem Sterling is being monitored ahead of the weekend cup encounter with Palace, before going on to discuss Daniel Sturridge’s current levels of fitness after months on the sidelines through injury:

“He’s desperate to play 90 minutes. He didn’t want to come off. We knew up to 70 minutes was his maximum. Anything more than that then you’re overstepping it and he could pull a muscle. It’s a progression with Daniel – we can’t push him too much at the moment. We’ll monitor him and see how he is and how he’s training. He’s recovering at the moment. He’s feeling great and he’s feeling well. We’ll have to talk to the sports scientists, but we don’t want to push him; we don’t want to break him. But he’s not far off 90 minutes.””

Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini revealed the reasons for subbing off Sergio Aguero with 18 minutes remaining of last night’s win over Stoke:

“He felt something in the back. My feeling is it is not too serious and he now has 10 days to recover and train well. I hope he will be fit to face Newcastle.”

Aguero, though, played down any fears and tweeted post-match:

“For the ones asking I’m ok. I stepped out only for precaution. Now let’s keep on working for the very important upcoming commitments.”

Man United
Phil Jones and Daley Blind were both forced off during last night’s win over Burnley. The Dutchman sustained a head knock and tried to play on with an eye injury before eventually making way for Ander Herrera – post-match, Louis van Gaal revealed to MUTV:

“I think, for Jones, we have to wait and see. I think it shall be difficult as he was very disappointed when I spoke with him. Maybe it’s a knee problem so it’s not good. Blind has a headache but I don’t think he is out of the game on Monday [in the FA Cup against Preston North End].”

Newcastle
Siem de Jong is set for another period on the sidelines after suffering a collapsed lung – the second time in the last 18 months their summer signing has been hospitalised with the problem. Local reports earlier this afternoon confirmed Paul Dummett will be assessed after picking up a knee knock during last night’s draw at Palace.

QPR
The Loftus Road outfit were dealt a bitter blow after Leroy Fer – who was amongst the goals in Tuesday’s win at Sunderland – was subsequently ruled out for up to ten weeks with knee ligament damage.

Stoke
Jon Walters missed last night’s home loss to City due to an ongoing knee problem.

West Ham
Andy Carroll is set for a stint on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury in last night’s clash with Southampton. The forward left St Mary’s on crutches, with his manager revealing post-match:

“The sad thing for us is the injury to Andy Carroll which we can ill-afford to take with our injury problems. It’s the same knee. He got kicked on the back of it and felt something was wrong. He stayed up and was a nuisance but I just hope that staying on hasn’t done any damage. He got fit in two-and-a-half weeks but clearly it’s going to take longer this time because it’s the same injury.”

Big Sam is also hoping Mark Noble can recover from the virus that forced him to miss the goalless draw.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

But it's 27 where it matters. Puncheon will play. Mahrez won't.

Not many great options at that price. I have no money left after I did Caz to Sanchez. I'm considering Walters also.

Looking at your team, you have 2 Chelsea, Kane, an injured Lucas and a dropped Wisdom.

You'll be in trouble if you don't start sorting that out.

Dont bother with that tbh. Pick top 3 that you want and go for it, not everyone can afford that plus it will effect other part of team.
Downgrading a premium defender(if you have) can help though

Thanks for the advice - appreciate it.

Out of interest, is there an obvious 3 to have from those?

I am set on Hazard and Aguero, I think.

*. Dont think there is any obvious choice. In my case, I'll be going with Hazard, Costa and Kun. Some will opt for Sanchez, Hazard and Kun. So basically, Kun and Hazard will be in almost all teams, trick lies in last pick which comes down to other options available.
*. For Sanchez, you have many options(maybe not that explosive) while not many alternatives for Costa with Kane being default 3rd striker. Giroud and Sturridge are only options at the moment.
Both have merits and demerits, so it depends on preference in the end 🙂

I see JWP only played 24 minutes last night

Surely this proves that people (namely Lucy) that were warning he wasn't nailed on were right?

Good player and may grab an assist off the bench but with Davis, Wanyama and Schneiderlin for the CM spots and Tadic, Elia and Djuricic, along with Mane for the more attacking ones, he's simply not worth it when Boyd, Cork, Gil are similarly priced or cheaper and more nailed.

He's only a youngster and I know Koeman thinks a lot of Davis. He'll keep appearing but he's not nailed on to start.

    @ Doosra

Looking at Jenkinson or Cresswell to replace Jones. Both will likely be benched quite a bit for me in the next few weeks but WHam have a good GW 27 fixture and I want one of them from GW 30 onwards anyway so will save a transfer by doing it now I think.

Any thoughts about those two? Is Cresswell's attacking play worth the premium?

I am writing this, to look up later.

You can't really understand the Tory animus against Trade Unions, without knowing about the pre-Historyof the general strike, and the Miners' strike of 1912, which did so much to slow Churchill down.

      Also, Next Step: http://www.llgc.org.uk/ymgyrchu/Llafur/1926/index-e.htm

Then, you have to understand about George Lansbury, and the ragged History of the Daily Herald, which eventually became The Sun - long before Murdoch was even thought of.

      http://spartacus-educational.com/PRlansbury.htm

This paper had a long and poisonous war with the Daily Express, which mirrored the class war raging on after the war, to the present day.

It is in these events, that you will find the reason's for Thatcher's rise, and the unpleasant guerrilla war waged by Tories of every stripe against all forms of association, including Trade Unionism.

Hmm, Dembele is only 5.2m. He's never been much of a finisher, but he's one of my favourite players to watch in the league with the way he drifts past people. Has been impressive since he moved up into the hole at West Brom - 2 assists and 1 goal in those three matches. Could be a nice cheap punt for the DGW, appeal is reduced if Chadli comes back and pushes him deeper though.

Did you know that's because he grew up in Belgium playing football on basketball courts, where the aim of the game was to pass and dribble your way to the pole with the hoop, rather than having to score a goal. Explains why he is so good up to the edge of the box, with less end product than you'd expect for his abilities.

First green arrow in almost 7 weeks!
What would you do with this lot?
    Panti/Hamer
    Terry Kos PvA Baird Cameron
    ADM Hazard Walcott Silva Boyd
    Augero Kane Giroud

    0.3 itb, 1 FT

Planning to have 3 Chelsea and 3 Spurs for the double, would involve me taking two hits in the next three weeks.. My only concern is Baird and Cameron as I won't be able to field 11 in GW27

If you're only going to play 10 in GW27 then having a cheap defender missing out isn't that bad an option - they normally only get one or two points anyway.

who would you guys recommend getting in for Gayle for about 3 weeks?

thinking berahino (sun SOU, asv) or defoe (westb,MANU,hull),

    my price range is 5-6.6

other option is to upgrade Albrighton to Moses (asv,HUL,EVE) or Milner (NEW,liv,LEI)

    range is 4.2-5.8 for mids

using a gini coefficient-like indicator to find the inequality in goal difference amongst clubs would be exactly what you're looking for. run this for both leagues and bam you compare the two

What to do? I have Jones,Baird and Bertrand so for this week so only have 2 defenders at the moment, Terry and Kosc.
But would also like to get rid of Puncheon who is playing Arsenal and Boyd playing Chelsea so not easy to just bench Punch. 2FT so have few options. Not sure anything is worth a hit.
    How about?
    A) Just get rid of Baird, play Punch next 2 games and then get Spurs-mid. Jones can stay on bench and wait for news on injury. Save other transfer
    B) Baird and Punch out
    C) Baird and Jones out
    D) All out for a hit

Too late to bother with Bertrand. May as well keep him now.

I had a similar situation with Wisdom and Jones to move and 2FTs. Wisdom is already shifted. I'm waiting on news about Jones but am not hopeful, he usually takes ages to get back from injury. So I'm expecting to shift him too. It's annoying to have to use 2FTs on defenders but with GW 27 coming up you need guaranteed starters.

That means your option C. Don't worry about Punch, at least he is playing and you can always go 4-3-3 next week if you bring some decent defender replacements in.

Is it too sideways a move to do Cazorla to Ozil?

I have 2FT and would have to do Taylor to a 4.2m def (Not PVA). Nothing else is pressing.

No, it has the reverse effect.
