Scouting The Doubles – QPR

Queens Park Rangers won’t have to venture beyond the capital in their imminent double Gameweek, as they host north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal within the space of four days. While the R’s languish in the lower echelons of the Premier League table – sitting outside the relegation berths by virtue of a superior goal difference – their winning record at Loftus Road renders them far from a Fantasy write-off.

The Prospects

The Hoops’ first test of the week sees them lock horns with an Arsenal side that triumphed 2-1 in the reverse fixture. With only one win in their last nine outings and a single victory in their previous five home ties, QPR will doubtless be underdogs in this local derby.

That being said, isolating QPR’s record under new boss Chris Ramsey frames them in a different light. The 52-year-old’s debut match in charge as caretaker manager would have resulted in a well-earned point, save for a last-gasp winner from Southampton’s Sadio Mane. Then in the two road ties that followed, Ramsey commandeered QPR to their first away win of the campaign – a 2-0 victory over Sunderland – and a narrow 2-1 defeat to Hull City.

The Gunners’ biggest strength lies in their plethora of creative midfielders and goalscoring forwards – Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud have tallied three and four goals respectively in their last six, while Mesut Ozil has delivered attacking returns in four of the previous five Gameweeks. Nonetheless, Arsenal’s vulnerability at the back was exposed by Monaco in the Champions League and is also evident in their paucity of clean sheets (seven) this term, offering encouragement to QPR’s attack-minded players.

QPR welcome Spurs to White City in the second match-up of their double, pitting Ramsey against the club that employed him for over a decade. Tottenham are a match for anyone on their day – as league leaders Chelsea will attest to – but inconsistency is a problem for Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit. For every head-turning win over one of the big boys (Chelsea, Arsenal), there’s been a humbling defeat to a team lower down the league ladder (West Brom, Crystal Palace). Moreover, as much as the likes of Harry Kane – who’s netted 12 times in his previous 11 outings – poses a real threat to QPR’s rearguard, the hosts will fancy Charlie Austin to cause trouble, too, given that only Leicester City (10) have conceded more big chances than the Lilywhites in their past four matches.

The Likely Lads

As the highest scoring Fantasy Premier League player on QPR’s roster by a clear 34 points this campaign, Charlie Austin (6.3) inevitably stands out as the prime candidate for R’s coverage in the double Gameweek. The 25-year-old hitman has registered six goals in his last nine appearances, equalling the much-vaunted Kane’s tally of 14 for the season, and looks nailed-on for Gameweek 28.

Having started QPR’s last three matches, Matthew Phillips (4.6) is shaping up to be a permanent fixture under Ramsey’s tenure. The Scotland international’s odds of retaining his right wing berth have certainly been enhanced by three assists in the past two Gameweeks. Furthermore, only Chelsea livewire Eden Hazard (11) has fashioned more chances for his teammates than Phillips (10) in the previous three Gameweeks.

Of the five clean sheets that Robert Green (4.5) has recorded this season, four of them have arrived at Loftus Road. Granted, Tottenham and Arsenal have only failed to score in six matches between them to date, yet their ability to fashion a wealth of chances should only strengthen the 35-year-old shot-stoppers’ potential to accrue save points – nine of Green’s last 10 outings have harvested one extra point from saves.

The Cheeky Punt

One goal and six attempts in QPR’s last two matches illustrates Bobby Zamora’s effort to impress his new boss. With many Fantasy enthusiasts rejigging their line-ups in an attempt to accommodate both Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero after the double Gameweek, the 4.1-priced forward could serve as a decent stop gap for those looking to free up cash.

Considering QPR have conceded more goals (45) than any other Premier League outfit this campaign, investing in their defence might seem like a questionable strategy, with Green’s save points looking the safest option. However, priced at 3.9, Suk-Young Yun represents a small outlay for a left-back that’s started the London club’s last two fixtures. On the off-chance of a clean sheet, Yun might tempt some managers with space for a budget defender in their ranks.

Scouting the doubles, good to see 😀

    Repost for the lulz.

This probably will sound odd but unless they improve, I don't think City are completely out of the scrap for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places. 4 points ahead of Arsenal and their last 10 games results have been:

    W D W D L D D W W L

Definitely don't think they're entirely safe, some nice fixtures but then again they mucked up games against the likes of Hull and Burnley so it is a mixed bag.

I think we will see some better results from City now that Yaya is back,

I think you're underestimating Yaya's importance. In the seven games Yaya hasn't played this season City have only won one game. I think that just his presence on the pitch is very important for them.

It usually is, but he was dire yesterday imo. He usually is vitally important but I thought he made a number of silly mistakes yesterday. So he has to wake up in future games.

      Nah, Yaya back.

Losing at Anfield is disappointing, but hardly a crisis. They conceded 2 great goals, hit the post and could have scored more, when playing badly against the leagues form team.

2nd place locked down at the very least, imo.

        • 14 Years

But Yaya was utterly terrible? As in he created a number of chances for Pool through mistakes that they should have converted. I'm certainly not saying crisis, but they were woeful even with Yaya back.

            Twas but one game. 😉

Yaya was very good in the first half as well, which people have glossed over.

In the PL, the easier games are the bread and butter, and I'd back Man City over any other team in the league to beat the lesser sides.

Except for Hull, Everton, Burnley, QPR and Stoke 😉

Na, they just need a better work ethic. Complacency and motivation their biggest problems. They easily have the best squad in the league.

That is what I am saying, they need to improve. The laziness costs them points and if they don't cut that out they may drop a few more.

I'm not sure, Chelsea have better defenders overall imo, better CMs (I know Yaya of course but Fabregas + Matic for me is a better combo than Yaya + Some disappointing CM), Hazard vs Silva I suppose is the big fight in the attacking aspect of the mids, Costa vs Aguero up top (Aguero for me hands down but Costa is still certainly able to score goals).

What would you do for this GW? I can spare some cash only if I sell Giroud to Austin but I'm not convinced.

I'd do A. Sturridge should start against Burnley so he could be a very good differential this week.

Looks fine to me tbh. Just do A and you should be good to go. You'll want to lose Puncheon eventually, not sure if it's worth a hit though. Clyne/Terry/Dawson in defense.

        Definitely not C. I've already done A

Wc is not required.....just bring a defender with favourable fixtures in place of wasi...and do ADM--->anyone you like

          A) If you want goals/assists from Philips/Austin/Eriksen/Kane, then your two defenders are just picking up 4 points, presuming they play both games.
          B) 3x QPR players is not going to end well.

        Pantilimon

        Clyne - Koscielny - Wollscheid

        Hazard - Sanchez - Eriksen - Puncheon

        Kane (c) - Aguero - Giroud

        [Hamer | Boyd - Naughton - Baird]

1 FT and £3.3m in the bank

        A.) Sanchez, Boyd --> Silva, Özil (-4)
        B.) Baird --> Vertonghen
        C.) Save
        D.) Other

Defense atm is Toby/Bellerin/Zouma (McShane, PvA). Chances I have more than one starter this GW? 🙂

After plummeting from 40k to 500k, I've finally worked my way back up to 80k (still not much compared to a lot of the people on here, but I'll take it). Just wanted to take a second to thank everyone here for all the advice and help. First season playing but it's been loads of fun, already know I'll definitely be back next season

Well done for recovering. I know some people end up just chasing points and plummeting further. I'm sure you'll be in even better shape for next season, thanks to the experience. 🙂 Good luck with the rest!

I actually think that Defoe has better chance of scoring more than Austin against Hull then Austin in his two fixtures

          Tempted by Austin (C).
He will be fully rested and straining at the leash.

Tottenham players, on the other hand, will be mentally and physically tired. They have played a lot of games this season.

          2 FTs and 1.7 itb
Terry to cheapie and Punch to Eriksen?

Lescott or Bellerin? Wouldn't have west brom defensive cover if I played Bellerin but they have had 3 clean sheets in a row - time to concede a goal?

There is no such thing"time to concede".

WBrom is solid at the back with Pulis as expected. Villa scored 13 goals all season.
