Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 29

With Swansea and Liverpool yet to play out the Gameweek tomorrow evening, we take a look at the new injury worries caused by the weekend’s nine fixtures.

Chelsea
Willian was replaced by Juan Cuadrado with just eight minutes remaining of today’s home draw with Southampton after picking up an injury, according to match reports.

Crystal Palace
Alan Pardew is sweating over the availability of a couple of key first-team players after Jason Puncheon (hamstring) and Wilfried Zaha (hip) were both forced off during the weekend win over QPR.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Kevin Mirallas missed today’s win over Newcastle with a knock sustained in Thursday’s Europa League victory over Dinamo Kiev. The Belgian is expected to recover in time for this week’s return trip to the Ukraine, though, after failing a late fitness test earlier today.

QPR
Rio Ferdinand missed the trip to Selhurst Park due to illness, the club’s official website has confirmed. The R’s right-back Darnell Furlong was replaced by Clint Hill at the break in Saturday’s defeat at Palace after sustaining a calf complaint, according to manager Chris Ramsey:

”Darnell came off and the only reason he did so was because his calf stiffened up and it wouldn’t have been fair to keep him on. He didn’t come off because they scored two goals.”

Southampton
Eljero Elia missed today’s trip to the Bridge with a twisted ankle, according to the local press.

Stoke
Jonathan Walters was forced off on 67 minutes with a head injury following a collision with Craig Dawson in the Potters’ 1-0 loss at West Brom. Erik Pieters was withdrawn at the break, whilst match reports indicate that Victor Moses was replaced on 57 minutes due to injury. After the match, Mark Hughes gave an update on the former and admitted he has concerns over Walters’ availability:

”Erik should be ok next weekend, but Jon is our main concern at the moment. He looks as though he has a nasty bang on his cheekbone which may well be a fracture and that will have to be checked on Monday. We hope it isn’t but it’s looking as though it could be a serious one that will keep him out for a few games.”

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher was subbed off injured on 82 minutes after sustaining what appeared to be a thigh problem during the Black Cats’ 4-0 home hammering by Villa.

West Brom
Tony Pulis faces an anxious wait on Ben Foster’s fitness after the keeper was forced off with a knee injury during the Baggies’ win over Stoke, whilst match-winner Brown Ideye was also withdrawn late on with a similar complaint.

After the match, Pulis confirmed Foster is set for scans after sustaining the injury in a challenge with the Potters’ Peter Crouch:

“We will have to get him checked. He felt his left knee go from under him. We need him fit.”

West Ham
The Hammers keeper Adrian played from start to finish in the 3-0 loss at Arsenal despite dislocating his finger in the warm-up. Assistant boss Neil McDonald revealed post-match:

”He’s been a brave lad today because he could easily have pulled out. And he’s made some great saves. He has his finger strapped up to play and I’m hoping that if he played today he should alright for next week. He did it in the warm-up but he wanted to carry on. I haven’t ever dislocated my finger so I don’t know how much pain he was in but it’s obviously a big thing for a goalkeeper.”

Seems as though Sanchez could drop tonight...

What are you doing with him, holding? Shipping?

He isn't performing for his price but I am scared to go without!

Not had him for some time now.
I would sell in the next few weeks given his upcoming blank gw33

Will let him drop tonight and lose the 0.1.

Feels like a pivotal decision for the season to go without him but it really frees up some cash and gives better flexibility. With Giroud looking as goof a bet at 3m less that is probably the way to go but uses up 2 transfers in the process.

      So not yet sure

IMHO, the reason he has exceled this year is because, with all of the early season injuries to their attacking assets, ARS needed him to step up and he did. With ARS now back at full attacking strength, Wenger is asking less of him and his production is less.

He didn't begin the year as their star player - he wasn't even a consistent starter. He really has to be viewed at the same level as Caz, Ozil and Ramsey, imho. Together, they are a strong core of attackers and Sanchez is in the mix, but not necessarily the tip of the spear anymore. I really think it's time to take profits and look elsewhere.

      Nice job.

      I gathered:

Captain Giroud when Arsenal play at home.
Keep Austin since QPR's next fixture is at home.

So I'm essentially keeping Austin and my FT and getting Giroud next week.

Yeah, that's definitely one way of going about it. Giroud has been just so consistent it's crazy good, can't go too wrong captain a striker for a t3 side. He also has the kindest run of fixtures 'till the end of the season when considering opposition strength and home bouts vs top tier teams

That's a good move though for sure

      I take from this;

      1. Rooney very good at home, rubbish away
      2. Spurs are rubbish against decent teams.
      3. Arsenal are now unstoppable since Ospina arrived and they hardly concede and have options galore in attack

Yes, especially now up front and RvP lacking fitness and Falcao being completely out of favor. I'm hoping he retains that front berth for a while, teams performance has definitely increased with him up top.

Yes, I think historically as well, not sure. Albeit, I just digged this on Opta as well
They were only the third team to go five PL games unbeaten against United, after Liverpool (00-02) & Blackburn (04-06). Before todays matches.

Yeah, he's a great player. Was a brick wall in Nice and played extremely well in the WC, glad the unprofessional Scez is out of form

I do think there are better options actually, I have my WC intact to get Costa for the DGW, but I do still think he isn't the best value. Thinking along the lines of Austin>Giroud plus maybe a beast defender

Well, I will captain Costa at Hull next GW. So there's the value.

Giroud is problematic for you as he has a blank in GW33. You will have quite a high value benched that week if you get him. Personally I have zero Arsenal in my squad and won't be bringing any in till my GW34 wildcard.

Ivanovic and Lukaku could be another way to go.

Lukaku seems like a guy who needs it served on a platter - Southampton and Swansea strike me as too stout. CRY, LEI, NEW - that seems to be his comfort zone. No doubt, BUR and QPR will be to his liking. For 8.8, I'm not sure that's enough production.

I analyze five fixtures ahead, so we're seeing slightly different things, but I'm seeing Sakho purely on fixtures - his form is supect. And too bad SWA don't have an in form striker.

                Food for though, though.

Hey all, what changes should I make here?

    Panti - (Foster)
    Terry - Ivan - Bert - (PVA - Dawson)
    Hazard - Cazorla - Eriksen - Moses - (Boyd)
    Austin - Aguero - Kane

    1ft and 1.3itb

Thinking Moses -> Mane this week.
Caz -> Ozil next and then Eriksen -> Coutinho.

I posted this in an old thread so most won't have seen it, maybe it's worth posting again...

I have been concerned about the effect of 4-2-2-2 on Aguero, especially last week with Bony starting for the 1st time. Aguero played deeper and drifted wide and nearly all his usual chances fell to Bony. This week Dzeko played and Aguero had more chances but a lot of them were from wide and at narrow angles.

I remembered Pellegrini playing 4-2-2-2 at the back end of last season when Aguero came back from an injury so I checked it out. In those last 8 games of the season, Dzeko scored 6 goals to 2 from Aguero. And Dzeko knows how to play alongside Aguero which Bony doesn't yet.

I think 4-2-3-1 with Silva behind Aguero suits them both best. But Pellegrini seems wedded to 4-2-2-2, especially having bought Bony for £28m. That doesn't look positive for Aguero's FPL prospects.

I'm going to keep Aguero until my GW34 wildcard because City have very good fixtures overall. But I won't be captaining him. And from GW34 onwards he'll be gone from my squad unless something changes in the meantime.

He has shown on the past he can score lots of goal in a 4-4-2. An 8 game period at the end of last season is a small sample size.

...which is why I haven't drawn a definitive conclusion from it. But one of the differences between me and you is that I try to spot trends early rather than waiting till they become undeniable and reacting after the event.

It's a really interesting situation ... you would think that the results would speak clearly of the failed system they are currently using. I'd be interested to know how they go with the 4-2-3-1 with Aguero the lone striker and Silva playing in the hole. It always seems a better system, and then sub Aguero for Bony with 20 minutes to go for impact.

      Thanks Ruth, appreciate the research!

The OBVIOUS thought would be that Pelle would note how wretched Dzeko and Bony played and revert back to a single striker formation, but as we've seen with LVG at MUN, these managers can be very stubborn.

      Thanks for the research.

Both myself and world number 1 have only had 3 gameweek ranks below 100k

He however only has 5 above 1m, whereas I have 10 above 1m.

Ive ben bobbing around between 40-50k for about 5 weeks straight

He's been sat firmly at #1 for that time.

I need to learn how to turn these awful weeks of 7 figure ranks into mediocre ones of 250-500k for next season.

    Good morning DZ.

Really tempted to get Giroud, but feel Ivanovic is more essential. Worth losing Aguero for any of Sturridge, Giroud, Rooney or Costa?

    Team

    Foster

    Hazard Sanchez Silva Eriksen
    Aguero Kane Austin
    ---------------------------------------------------
    Myhill Puncheon Bellerin Naughton

Boyd might rise before the end of the week so this looks good.

Out of interest, are you playing Hutton this week (SWA)?

I'm torn, have Ivanovic (as of just now), Terry, Clyne (BUR) and Hutton who all have tasty fixtures.

That's what I'm thinking, although if Hutton was ever going to get a start it would be at home to Swansea. Anyways ... you don't own players over 5.0 for them to sit on the bench i guess.

it's nice that the Arsenal midfield was relatively non-eventful this week. With the rise of Benteke, Lukaku, Aguero fialing repeatedly, Rooney on fire, Spurs inconsistencies ... we might finally have some really good differentials to aim at!!

Interesting point right there. Another reason to wait on making a transfer. That game will be very interesting indeed.

Looks solid. Giroud is tempting too

Yeah its the home game that swings it for me. Giroud is a nice shout too though, Newcastle are a bit of a shambles right now. I still find it unbelievable they thought it was a good idea to get rid of Pardew. Pure pride from the fans getting in the way of what was best for the club.

Yeah was a mess. Think it was right for him to go in the end but def a situation that could have been handled much better.

I think so if you don't have Costa.

Yeah its either Aguero or Costa for that 3rd striker spot. Probably too close to call right now so might have to stick with Aguero. I agree that Costa is also a very good captaincy shout this week.

Got it on Haz atm. Spuds were really tired yesterday and Leicester playing 5 at the back, it doesn't look good

Yeah 5 at the back is a worry, although they've still been conceding a lot of goals lately. Hazard hasn't been doing enough for me but good luck with it.

I haven't made up my mind yet tbh. It's between Haz and Kane

21 points this week. Big shiny red arrow.

I decided Sanchez is done and I must get Costa. Lost my head and did

Walters (injured), Sanchez, Austin > Cork, Ozil, Costa.

Although I caught Costa's rise, I took two hits (-8) - ridiculous to to hits this late in the season.

Appreciate if DZ can confirm my idiocy.

lol dont beat yourself up over it mate. Sometimes you just gotta get rid. For self satisfaction more than anything. I was so happy when ADM was out of my team 😆

If you captain Costa you may get your -8 back.

And in any case it's early preparation for GW 34 so worth a -4 probably in view of that.

Cork is an enabler but I'd be willing to bet that Costa + Ozil will outscore Austin + Sanchez by some margin over the next few weeks.

        It's not so bad.

Yes. Bad but not so bad. Costa is good for GW33 blank and excellent (c) option DGW 34.

He has an extra game to make up the -8 over every other striker. Great next 3 fixtures too.

On hindsight to save the -8 I'd need 3 weeks of FT and surely Costa + Ozil will outscore Austin + Sanchez by 8 easily over the 3 weeks.

    @Ruth

What was so convincing about Costa today?

Looked really sharp and up for it, getting in great positions in the box (something he doesn't always do), Chelsea started putting some aerial crosses in for him (which they haven't done much). Lots of things.

It's also how Chelsea played 2nd half. If they repeat that against Hull they will score plenty, I was at the Chelsea-Hull game earlier in the season and Chelsea were all over Hull till Huddlestone was sent off and Hull went into damage limitation mode.

Chelsea are sore and I think someone is due a thumping. So all of that really.

Anyway, he's back in my team now so it's done!

I also saw some of the United game. Your lot were very good indeed I thought. Players in their right positions at last.

Fair enough. I still don't see it. Especially if you sold Rooney for him.
