Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Swansea vs Liverpool

A dire Gameweek 29 limps to its conclusion this evening as Swansea and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Liberty. Brendan Rodgers returns to his former club having guided the Reds to a 12-match unbeaten run since moving to a 3-4-2-1 formation and the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge have the chance to get amongst the points against a defence with a single shut-out in six in front of their own fans.

At the back, the visitors have been a consistent source of clean sheets in recent matches. The Merseysiders have kept out their opponents in six of the last eight Gameweeks and have Martin Skrtel available after the Slovakian recovered from a head knock that forced him off on a stretcher against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup stalemate last time out. Mamadou Sakho also returns as one of three centre-backs as Dejan Lovren drops to the bench. Rodgers has made further changes in the wing-back roles, with Glen Johnson and Lazar Markovic dropping to the bench: Alberto Moreno is recalled on the left while Raheem Sterling looks to be deployed on the right.

The hosts, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from their 3-2 loss at Spurs in Gameweek 28. Prior to that defeat, Garry Monkโ€™s men had registered back-to-back victories and earned three points in their previous match at the Liberty, courtesy of a 2-1 win over United.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was back in the goals last time out and has the upcoming fixtures to earn himself a place in our five-man midfields again, whilst Ki Sung-Yeung has notched three times in the last five and, at 5.1 in FPL, is staking a claim as a cheap budget option.

The teamsheet finds Monk forced into one change as Jordi Amat comes in for Federico Fernรกndez who misses out for family reasons. Up front, Bafetimbi Gomis is available to lead the line after recovering from his collapse at White Hart Lane in the previous Gameweek.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Early ideas on this lot?

    Jakupovic - Pantilimon
van Aanholt - Coloccini - Wollscheid - Clyne - Dawson
    Hazard - Sánchez - Silva - Boyd - Eriksen
    Austin - Agüero - Kane

2 FT, £1.8m in the bank.

    Time for a Coloccini replacement?

    What would you do?

Jones, PVA, Bertie, Eriksen and Kane/Austin out.
Naughton, Alde/Moreno, Schlupp, Coutinho and Giroud in.

My scoutcast question wasn't answered, so community what do you think?

Get in Giroud now (upcoming blank gw 33) or get a striker with a gw 33 fixture?

Basically Giroud for 3 games(+rotation?) or nailed on striker for 4 games?

Yes, Kane and Kun the other two. Might take him out for gw 33 if have the extra transfer, atm I only have 2 players blanking for gw 33 so I'm in a nice position for some punts.

So...do it. But he is not in top form. 1 goal in last 6 games. West Ham is bad the last few months and doesn't score at all. Only 4 goals in 7.

              that's a gamble

I had this with Kane before GW27. I stuck with Defoe and Giroud, reckoning on getting an extra fixture, and Kane's were bad, and ended up getting burnt. Arsenal's fixtures are better than Spurs' were then, and Giroud is in form.

Depends on your alternatives I guess.

Just seen. It's a nice run of fixtures (bar the last). I've not looked at ownership, but I doubt Giroud is as widely owned as Kane was, so you might not suffer as much if it goes the wrong way. Think it could be a gamble worth taking for you.

Not sure, I have my WC. Was looking at potential WC team yesterday with Costa / Giroud / Sturridge

Also must say main reason getting Giroud back in is to maintain a 20 ish point gap in mini league, 2nd place team has him

In the same position man, might just play my own game and get Sakho for a 4 week punt. Or Sakho for 3 weeks and a 1 week punt for gw 33 if I have the transfer.

    Hi all, any advice please!

    Pants
    Ivan // Clyne // Bellerin*
    Haz // Sanchez // Eriksen // Couthinho
    Kun // Kane // Giroud

    Foster* -- Wolls* -- JWP* -- Dawson

Got .2 ITB and 2 FT, looking to save 1 but who is the biggest priority to shift?
    A) Bellerin
    B) Wolls
    C) JWP

If Wolls is fit considering JWP > Cork for the blank and cash the .5?
    If not Wolls > Toby

I'd shift Wolls / Bellerin personally

Which one would you go for as a free Austin replacement?

    a) Costa
    b) Giroud
    c) Sturridge

a/b, see how will you cope with 33 if you get giroud

That's the thing, logic dictates Costa is the better choice given Giroud's blank but he's damaging me atm...

if you are fine for gw33 and doubles just get giroud, will probably outscore costa and he's cheaper

You soon realised youve spent too much on defence when you have to make decisions like this...bench one:

    Terry (hul)
    Clyne (BUR)
    Rose (LEI)
    Kosc (new)
    Austin (EVE)

Kos or Rose. Wouldn't want to have to call it myself

Daaaaamn.. I'd say bench Kosc since Rose offers more attacking threat and is at home.

I am, but I know full well it's because I am in the midst of an unstoppable slide down the rankings. If I was in the top 1-5k I'm sure I'd be loving it.

Not bored - but it's very typical for me at this time of year to tone it down a lot. FPL gets me through the winter, but once spring is round the corner it takes more of a back seat. If I was pushing top 1k I'd still be going for it, though.

I have been in between 1k and 2k for about 11 weeks. Guess im just bored of making no progress. And i have the most template team ever too.

puncheon should be fine after the int break and good gw33 fixture, think it is a shame selling him for a 6.4 max.
