Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 33

We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

Quick Question. Please answer. For my WC
    A. Ospina, Schmeichel, Jenkinson, Vlaar, Fabregas + cash for Fabregas > Silva
    B. Courtois, Gilks, Monreal, Schlupp, Silva

Apologies for repost, but this appeared at the foot of the last article. Appreciate an opinion:

If you could field 3x Chelsea and 3x Liverpool next week just by using 2FTs (as I can), would you still play your WC and also get 1-2 Leicester players and fine-tune your squad?

Or would you just play those 6 and save your WC for another week? And if so, which week?

Id save and then use it the following weeks to sort out the team and get in Arsenal players.

Depends. Are you happy with the 3 Chelsea and 3 Liverpool you have ? Or stuck with someone like remy? Quality is just as important as quantity IMO.

        CHE: Courtois, Terry, Hazard
LIV: Hendo + any two (Coutinho + Sterling maybe)

Chelsea, Liverpool and City all have decent fixtures GW 35 as well, so was thinking of keeping for GW36 and then stock up on Arsenal. Or keep it for a crazy fling on the last day of the season. Often some unusual line ups then, and players rested

Any ideas as to who to narrow down on for GW34? 2 FTs

    Myhill Foster
    Clyne Terry Alderweirld Naughton Wasilewski
    Sanchez Silva Hazard Mane Boyd
    Kane Aguero Remy

Thinking atm: Mane to Henderson for sure and then perhaps Silva to Sterling/Coutinho. And then worth the -4 for Foster to Schmeichel?

    Cheers

This is my team with no FTs left, how many hits would you take for players? I'm thinking about a -12 to bring in N'Doye, Sterling and either Henderson or Moreno?

    Krul
    Moore - Skrtel - Clyne
    Hazard - Fabregas - Silva - Eriksen
    Aguero - Kane - Remy

Ospina - Alder - Moses - van Aanholt

Get sterling. No need to double on Pool defence. And how come you don't have a chelsea defender? 3 attacker from Chelsea is too much as they are playing ( in attacking sense) well.

  12. WHY ALWAYS MESUT?
    • 10 Years
    9 years, 2 months ago

    Panti - K. Davies
    Clyne - Azpi - Toby - Bellerin - Dawson
    Hazard - Ozil - Silva - Eriksen - Boyd
    Aguero - Kane - Remy

    1 FT, 4.2m ITB.

    A) Eriksen to Sterling.
    B) Eriksen / Bellerin for Sterling / Moreno for -4
    C) Eriksen / Bellerin / Silva for Sterling / Moreno / Coutinho for -8
    D) Eriksen / Bellerin / Silva for Sterling / Moreno / Henderson for -8
    E) Any other ideas?

Was thinking of going for Moreno over Skrtel because that leaves enough funds to do Remy/Coutinho to Giroud/Sanchez later (which seems good!)

    Any help is appreciated.

Well 64 from nine players was way better than I expected this week. After a disastrous few weeks that's finally put me somewhat back on the right track, and I might be able to make a late charge back into the top 1,000 if I finish well, although after spending a good deal of time in the 100-500 rank area I had hoped for so much more this season.

I think I'm pretty well set up for this DGW, but looking at my team is there anybody I should be hitting in?

How many points do you expect from Ibe?

I'm fairly confident he'll be starting at least one of the two, and I've had him for ages (when he first came into team before injury) to free up cash. I think a start and sub appearance, maybe nabbing an assist, would be realistic.

Top notch performance from Villa today,

Arsenal will need to be careful in the final, esp. if they play like they did yesterday.

Bentekkers will cause us all kinds of problems. will just have to dominate the midfield and starve him of supply.

could buying Villa players be a risk?

remember how Hull's season totally collapsed once they reached the Cup final

Villa obviously aren't safe yet, but they're not far away, could they have one eye on Wembley and perhaps lose a bit of focus?

Think they are riding the crest of a wave. Think Tekkers is a serious option if you upgrade Kane especially with their fixtures. But you are right, that fear of injury and missing the final means a lot of players wont be playing at 100%. Have a look after this gw, if there is still a threat of relegation then it could be worth it. If they are safe they may take it easy

Form team. Once safe they could relax a bit but it's better to keep the form up until the final regardless.

They are bang in form can't see them taking the eye of the relegation battle they are right in the thick of.

    Giroud > Vardy?
It feels wrong going into DGW with no DGW striker.
