Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 33

We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

nice that eriksen finally scores as I will transfer him out this gw. That will be the last goal of the season if he doesn't score next week. I was checking his game logs and a good percetenage of his goals come in back to back games and earlier in the season he was scoring on a rate of every 4 games.

Last post of previous page, so repost...

Welp, thanks to the Tottenham boys and the addition of Schlupp instead of Jones, the week turned out a little bit better than I could have expected. Now the question is, do I spend next week (was hoarding an extra transfer that I ended up using once Jones came up injured) with this bunch or not. Got a slim margin in my league, but the Aguero sale still haunts me.

    Krul (Adrian)
Wolly, Ivanovic (DG), Schlupp (DG) (Kosc-Bertrand)
    Caz-Hendo (DG)-Siggy-Hazard (DG)-Eriksen
    Austin-Kane (Berahino)

Berahino was a very useless roll of the dice because of fixtures which do not look like getting better (although my money wouldn't exactly be against him scoring at OT, much like I thought Aguero would but sold him anyways). Fixtures might also suggest Siggy's departure. So now the question is do I roll the dice yet again on N'Doye/Vardy/Ulloa or even Drogba or go a safer route? Have 4.3 to spend.

As the season winds down, does it make more sense to focus on FPL players on teams that are either trying to make top 5 and those that are fighting to not be relegated? It seems mid table teams (Spurs, Soton, Stoke, Everton ...). May not have as much to play for. Any truth to that?

It's kinda worrying that maybe he wouldn't get many minutes for you.. if he doesn't play 60 min you wont get CS points and it makes him kind of pointless? I think maybe I would go with Bertrand over him.. unless there is any indication that he might more game time?

Controversial I know, but i really don't understand why people are taking multiple hits to bring in DGW players. Both Liverpool and Chelsea play away twice, Leicester are a rubbish team that are overachieving for a few games but will ultimately get relegated and Hull are the most underwhelming team in the EPL ... period.

Aside from triple Chelsea and perhaps one of Henderson / Coutinho / Sterling it's unlikely you'd keep these players beyond the DGW and will end up taking hits to get rid of them to get in DGW players for GW37.

It just seems madness, unless you have a WC to clean up the mess after the fact.

Cheap as chips and a good fixture after the DGW.

They can be bench fodder then- job done.

On the WC and going to gamble a bit.
9 players so far for the DGW.

Liverpool fixtures pretty good afterwards, and they still have something to play for. A Leicester attacker makes sense as a punt, as they have to score to remain up-and their fixtures aren't bad after DGW either.

      Hull ... Wouldn't touch.

It's the same every season around this time of the year. DGWs are great craic altogether, No harm in a -4 or a -8.
Worry about the consequences later if it doesn't work out.
If it does work out, make sure you post a score check immediately after the GW ends 🙂

There is merit to having 3 from Chelsea and 3 from Liverpool. Chelsea assets you would keep and Pool assets you can sell for Arsenal players. You can take your time there too because they have reasonable fixtures.

Leicester players aren't worth a transfer but if it provides the cash injection to get a couple of DGWers then I suppose its worthwhile. They key is to make sure you have a good post DGW plan though.

Any of the last 35 in Last Man Standing around? Are you one of the 11 WC owners?

Sadly not me 🙁 I think I missed out just the once.
Thanks for running it, it's a great concept and I enjoy being involved every year.

Are Coutinho and Sterling worth 4pt more than
    Coutinho/Sterling and Henderson?

In other words are Sterling or Coutinho worth -4 than Hendo? With the Alles injury news I think they somehow are

Hendo will get 120 mins and is an important runner.
Gerrard will have set pieces and is due some returns.

Is Skrtel nailed on starter? Somehow I am not convinced. There has to be some uncertainty about his nailedoness right?

I meant because of the suspension Rodgers might have changed his mind. Ok than, Skrtel in it is 😉 😛

What are the considerations on Skrtel v Moreno? Who has better prospects during the DGW? Better prospects after?

Both are similar. Skrtel has the baps, Moreno has the attacking threat, but Skrtel has the game time and is more nailed on.

Moreno could be benched which is pain in the ass while there is double GW

Anythings possible with BR. Who knows, they might return to a 352. Personally I don't think he will do that but I suppose it shouldn't be ruled out.

No. Apparently they were bad though. I think Gerrard instead of Lucas was a problem.

        Hey Ryan,
Question on our team email thread regarding some potential moves I'm thinking about. Probably not emergent, since it doesn't look like Naughton will fall tonight, but I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Template is fine, but how does this WC team look?

    Schmeichel (Ospina)
    Skrtel - Terry - Ivanovic
    Hazard - Sterling - Sanchez - Henderson
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

    PVA - Baird - Cork
    0.5 INB

    Any advice?

    Thought on WC team...?

    Davis K (gilks)
    Terry Monero Skrtle (pva,duff)
    Haz Fab Couthinho Silva (albrighton)
    Kun Kane Vardy

leaves 4.4 ITB...to bring Giroud for Vardy in for GW35

WC plan currently looking like this:

    Schmeichlel [Davis]
Skertl Terry McShane [AlderW if not injured, PvA]
    Haz Fab Sterling Coutinho Sanchez
    Aguero Vardy [Kane]

Then Coutinho + Vardy -> Phillips & Giroud in GW35/6.

Guess pretty template, but wonder if it's good enough?
