The Numbers Game – Double Gameweek Form

With the final double Gameweek of the season almost upon us, we turn our attentions to the Opta statistics to assess the recent form of Arsenal and Sunderland.

Using the team profile data, we take a look at both sides displays from Gameweek 30-36 – a period of time that saw them play six times apiece and one that coincides with Dick Advocaat’s arrival at the Stadium of Light.

    I see a lot of people struggling to fit in 3 ARS while holding onto their key players@assets.

    I think I'm lucky enough to be able get 3 ARS (including Sanchez) + 3 SUN while keeping the likes of Ivan, JT, Skrtel, Haz, Kun and Benteke. This is despite having a considerably low TV.

        tbh I'm not feeling that lucky with the 3 SUN I got (Panti PVA Defoe), but the DGW pattern this season is still intriguing, i.e AVL QPR HUL LEI 😉

    Pantimillions (Kasper)

    Terry, Skrtel, Morgan, (Wisdom/Baird)

    Sterling Coutinho Sanchez Ozil (Cambiasso)
    Ageuro giroud Benteke

    Currently benching Cambiasso?
    Only .1m itb

    Any better transfer ideas? Or should I save, 1pt in my last mini league and the guy NEVER takes hits...

    Sterling -> Milner/Navas?
    or
    Baird -> PVA (1week since I won't play him in 38)

    Morning! Bored at work and the end of year voting articles inspired me to do this (rather than the dull reports I have piling up). These are fantasy football picks, not real life ones.

    GK- Forster- 13 clean sheets in 29 starts and all for starting price of 5.0

    DF-Ivan- Get Ivan from the start and play him in every game. Must follow this next year
    DF-Terry- Plays every minute of every game, keeps clean sheets and scores goals
    DF-Clyne- To be fair this could have been Bert easily. Cheap, attacks and got clean sheets

    MID- Hazard- Obvious.
    MID- Silva- Love this guy in ‘real football’, just have patience when he blanks for 2 in a row
    MID- Sanchez- Top quality real player and very nearly top scoring midfielder in fantasy, best PPG aside from Aguero
    MID- Fabregas- Assist machine, plays all the time

    FW-Aguero- 3rd best striker in the world? Got have him, pure class
    FW-Kane- Points for cheap
    FW-Costa- Snarly, fouling, elbows out. Does his job, scores goals.

    Notable mentions-

    - Fabienski-Another cheap route to points
    - The 4.5/4.0 GK combo from one team- The way forward? Foster and Myhill was 8.5m and scored 144 points.
    - Jagelika- Solid points, plays all the time, cheaper than Baines or Coleman, a few goals
    - Bertrand- Him or Clyne? Flip a coin
    - NTaylor- A personal choice, got me lots of points for a small outlay
    - Bellerin- Better PPG than Cahill
    - Austin- Harsh he didn’t get in my first X1
    - Pelle- On fire for a bit, was great to be on him at that point

    Any thoughts? Aside from Haz/Fab/Silva and Sanchez I struggled to find any midfielders worth a mention.

      Aguero is not "the 3rd best striker in the world". He is the best.

      Obviously Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Neymar, Mueller, James Rodriguez and others are better all-round players. But they are forwards, not strikers. As a pure striker, Aguero is the best there is.

      That's why it's so inexplicable that Pellegrini took so long to give up playing 4-2-2-2 with Aguero out of position. He deserves to be sacked for that alone.

    Liverpool have agreed a five-year contract with Jordon Ibe, which will be signed next week. The 19-year-old winger, who broke into the Liverpool senior side this year and will be a key member of Brendan Rodgers’s plans next season, will be tied to Anfield until at least 2020. An announcement is expected shortly after the final home game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

      Hello RD! That Robin Friday film is getting closer to being made...

      Ramsey is in my team, partly sentimental but also as he knows how to score. I'm not sure looking at stats helps when there's only a couple of games and there's not much in it between the three. Over the long term it might help but for now got to go with the gut.

        Haven't seen much news about the film, but will look forward to it if it arrives.

          I sold Hazard last week but thinking of a plan to get him in for GW38. Potential to cause some damage, not just to Sunderland but to my minileague chances. I'd be happy enough doing Hazard to Ramsey this week.

    How not to play FPL by yours truly:

    Up to GW36 I had 448 pts from my capatain and 588 pts from my vice.
    I took 104 pts in hits of which 16 were necessary.

    If I swapped my captains around and played the game correctly for hits I would have 228 more points.
    I am 24 000th on 2 050 pts. Increase by amending poor choices that would be 2 278 my rank would be 259.
    What I did gain was money but my closest rival in the mini league has 102.5 compared to my 108.3.
    A learning curve for sure.

    So is the general consensus that No.1 OR will go Haz -> Ramsey this week?

    I need a differential (c) so which of these would you do?

    A) Silva -> Santi(c)
    B) Baird -> Kos(c), benching Terry (who No.1 will start)
    C) Haz -> Ramsey(c) and hope he does something else

    Panti
    Terry, Skrtel, PVA

        Edging this way also. It's a risk, but since he has Terry is it worth benching him for Schlupp? I can see the SUN:LEI game petering out to a 0-0 since a point will be enough for both teams, plus with a weakened CHE team perhaps they will concede away at WBA?

          Agree. Sun-Lei will be tight game and I'm expecting 0-0 aswell.

          Not sure about benching Terry but you need to do things differently if you want to reach that top spot.

          with the amount of points you're behind you HAVE to go against the grain and hope the fantasy gods are in your favour.

          go option A and bench Terry

            Yeah, agreed. Annoyingly he will likely start Morgan which kind of negates Schlupp, so will be relying on attacking points.

            You think he'll definitely lose Haz? Seems quite a risk given how highly owned he is and how strong a captaincy option he is next week.

        Yeah, he does. I'm just not so sure he'll ditch Hazard this week as he'll probably want to (c) him next week and would have to lose Sanchez/Silva to get him back, both of which are also highly owned and with a decent fixture.

    Mignolet
    Ivan, Bellerin, PvA
    Hendo, Hazard, Silva, Sanchez
    Kun, Kane, Benteke

    Krul | Boyd, Bertrand, Vlaar

    1FT, 0.4ITB

    A) Hazard -> Ramsey FT
    B) Hendo/Bertrand -> Ramsey/Wasilewski for a -4

    If it makes any difference, I wouldn't be playing either Bertrand or Wasilewski for the remainder of the season, it would be to purely fund Hendo -> Ramsey. Thoughts?

        Cheers mate. If Hazard falls/Ramsey rises 0.3 in the next two weeks I can get Hazard back for 38 doing the reverse move.

        Cheers mate. Ramsey or Caz?

    4. Ruth_NZ

      Neither. Silva to Ramsey/Cazorla/Ozil is a better move. Silva had his last haul of the season last week. Hazard will get his next week.

      Also I would play Bertrand over Benteke if you want the best chance of points this week. 😕

        Cheers Ruth, interesting points. I planned to do Silva -> Ramsey/Caz but as you can expect it's hard to sell after a massive haul. How do you know it is his last though? 😉

        Really? But Soton have hardly kept a clean sheet in the last 5 (or something like that) and Villa have been scoring frequently lately?

          You can call it a hunch or anything but I've seen Ruth's thoughts and 90% of them were true. At first I didnt believe it but somehow he got something that made his analysis came true. One of it was the Ndoye in Hull DGW.

        2. Ruth_NZ

          City aren't playing QPR at home again. 😕

          Their last fixtures are winnable but not easy. I wouldn't expect huge scorelines. So I wouldn't bank on another Silva haul and don't think you need both him and Aguero.

          As for Southampton, they have levelled off a bit but are still a very good defensive team, especially at St Mary's where they have conceded 4 goals in the last 6 games with 4 clean sheets. A point would almost certainly be enough for Villa and I doubt they will over commit. So personally I'd rather have Bertrand than Benteke this week.

          @ Der Wall - Maybe I got lucky with N'Doye. There were sound reasons behind the pick but he hasn't scored since.
