Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 3

We move onto Gameweek 3 and, as always, take a look at the Sky Sports game, assessing the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 2 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Aston Villa vs Man UnitedDaley Blind
Southampton vs EvertonRomelu Lukaku
Sunderland vs NorwichNathan Remond
Swansea vs NewcastleJonjo Shelvey
Tottenham vs StokeStephen Ireland
Watford vs West BromOdion Ighalo
West Ham vs LeicesterRiyad Mahrez
Crystal Palace vs ArsenalSanti Cazorla
Man City vs ChesleaSergio Aguero
Liverpool vs BournemouthChristian Benteke

Six midfielders and four forwards claimed the awards last week. A number of budget/mid-price options in midfield are staking a claim for a spot in our squads. Riyad Mahrez now has back-to-back MoTM awards and is the top scorer with 29 points, all for just 6.0m – with a kind fixture list to come, he’s the stand out option at this point. Nathan Redmond, at 5.5m, is also looking a great option – tipped as a MoTM magnet in our previous article, he seems to have also added more goals to his game and looks another good acquisition. Jonjo Shelvey, at 6.3, also looks great value – at 0.2 less than Andre Ayew, he also has the potential for bonus points in his locker and is in fantastic form right now.

Gameweek 2 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers picked up bonus this week – Boaz Myhill was the only one to also manage a clean sheet and brought in nine points for his owners.

In defence, 14 players grabbed bonus, nine for tackles and five for passes completed. Ashley Williams managed a staggering 102 successful passes and was just one tackle short of picking up both bonus points on offer. His team-mate Kyle Naughton can count himself unlucky as he just missed out on both by six completed passes and one tackle – at 5.3, he is currently looking the best budget defender on offer.

In midfield, there were 14 beneficiaries in total: nine for tackling and seven for passes. Cesc Fabregas and Aaron Ramsey were the two to pick up both and are always in the mix for bonus to help them tick along.
Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Adrian’s three-match ban and Ryan Bertrand’s ongoing injury have seen both subject to heavy sales. A lack of form from Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney has persuaded their owners to look elsewhere.

Fantasy managers are clearly keen to acquire City’s in-form pair Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany. Bafetimbi Gomis has netted in each of Swansea’s opening fixtures, whilst Liverpool left-back Joe Gomez and Leicester’s Mahrez offer budget-friendly options further back.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes
It’s taken four transfers but I’m happier with my team now and getting it right early is important, so I always afford myself extra changes at the beginning. There’s more to follow in the coming weeks before hopefully – injury permitting – it settles down. With some nice fixtures to follow, David Silva will be coming in for Christian Benteke as the little Spaniard has continued where he left off last season. Sadio Mane and Max Gradel will stay in for now until their schedules turn for the worse and then I’ll reasses the pair, with Swansea assets, Yohan Cabaye and Xherdan Shaqiri on my radar. Adrian managed to pick up a red card against Leicester and is now banned for three matches but I’ll stick by him and just take the hit as I don’t want to use a transfer on a goalkeeper if I can help it.

Captain Plan
I’m undecided whether to bring Memphis Depay in as captain for Benteke in United’s clash against Newcastle. If I do, it gives me two captains for this week but at the expense of a transfer and I’m not sure I would want him long term, so potentially that’s two transfers and I have already used four. It’s one for me to ponder on Saturday morning but at this stage I’ll likely just opt for one captain – in the form of Sergio Aguero – for Man City’s match away to Everton on Sunday. This works out nicely as Aguero will then be my skipper next week on Saturday at home to Watford.

    Invest in Kolarov

rotation begins this GW. or next.

rinse repeat. Kolarov is like that shiny apple that is just out of reach and you probably shouldn't reach for.

    Kompany then. Safe and reliable.

got kolarov on the assumption he plays at least half the games, then the gamble is when he doesnt he stays on the bench. he's worth almost 8mil when he starts imo

Rodgers has doubts that Moreno can be trusted defensively. It was interesting to see him come on as a winger. This arsenal game is by far, Gomez' biggest test. if he comes through it, then he will be pretty nailed

Don't really get the sudden love for Memphis. He played really well v Brugge but they're hardly top calibre opposition. We already knew he can tear it up v lesser lights, it's how he fares week after week in the PL that's the question.

With other good picks (with better fixtures) at a similar price, I'd definitely avoid the mini Depay bandwagon that's started up, at least for now. Especially given United are exactly functioning brilliantly as an attacking unit in general.

It's nothing to do with being personal.

Newcastle are an established PL side, to put it into perspective we've just signed two of the best players in the Belgian league and neither has looked great so far.

We might not be a great side, but we're certainly not a lesser light than Brugge.

Nowhere in my reply did I say Bruges were better than Newcastle, but I don't think there is a great deal in it. Maybe a good form guide will show up v United.

Newcastle away from home are shocking - look at their record. The Leicester performance a while back was shambolic and embarrassing and little has changed in personnel. You now have to reorganise again with Janmaat out. Till that is addressed you have problems imo.

    2. Fred54
      • 9 Years

Its all about potential though, he's unknown to FPL but could explode.

As you were probably trying to say United are far from potent in attack, if he gets his act together, he could tear up ala Ronaldo on the wing, something that United have been missing for some time.

Obviously its a wait and see. Even Di Maria showed modest FPL returns before vanshing altogether.

If you mean to use him to allow one wheel on an axle to rotate more than the other, I'd have to see his stats in that regard.

Will Pedro's arrival push Hazard back into the #10 role? Could be a good signing for Hazard owners if it does

No, it might push Willian into the 10 role though.

Everyone's favourite FPL prospect Willian. Surely it's either Hazard in the middle with Willian on the right or Hazard on the right with Oscar in the middle?

Willian has been offered to other clubs from what I've heard.

No, Haz loves the left himself. Play your best players where they want to be played.

Any thoughts about Brendon Galloway? 4.5 mil full back playing for Everton because of the lengthy injury to Baines.

Possible decent. Not so keen on Everton's fixtures though

He'll be on my bench for those games. Oviedo is a potential choice for left back that I hadn't considered.

Pedro £9.5m!! He would need to score a hatrick on his debut to even come close to warranting that price tag!!

Not sure if you are serious or taking the piss. You won't see oxford figure again from the start. Once bertrand returns targett won't even make it on the bench

Oxford will play more when Bertrand comes back. Oxford will still play very little, so i wouldn't touch either

No....I doubt Targett will start a single game this season when Bertrand is fit again. Oxford could make the odd cameo

I was just messing with you because the way you wrote it was confusing. But yes, Bertrand will replace Targett when fit and Oxford will have restricted appearances.

The reason I ask is because I have 0.5 ITB and I want to upgrade one of these defenders atleast. I'm just having a tough time deciding who.

kl. My choices for a 4.5 defender look bad but I've got my eye on Galloway atm. lays for everton and baines is out for a while. Only problem is if Oveido steals the spot.

Other choices include Ward, Cameron, muniesa, Huth and Morgan

Just picked up Pedro in my draft league. Had the money, traded out Lallana, and nobody else can pick him up. Probably won't play for a couple of weeks, though.
