Scout Notes – Gameweek 9 – Monday

Bojan Krkic hands Stoke a third successive league win with a first-half spot-kick at the Liberty Stadium. Bafetimbi Gomis blanks for the fifth straight Gameweek, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson drops to the bench as Swansea’s poor run of form continues.

Bojan Wins it for Potters

Bojan Krkic netted from the penalty spot to earn Stoke City a 1-0 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium – the first time they’ve recorded consecutive road victories since December 2011. The Spanish forward claimed his second goal in four leagues starts since returning from a long-term knee injury, highlighting his potential as a third striker. Priced at 5.3 and taking precedence over Charlie Adam on spot-kicks, Krkic could well deliver points on a budget as Stoke lock horns with the likes of Watford, Newcastle and Sunderland over the next five Gameweeks.

The Staffordshire outfit had no clean sheets to their name through the opening seven Gameweeks but have now kept the opposition out in their previous two match-ups. Considering that the Hornets – who rank bottom for goals scored (six) this campaign – are next on the agenda, Jack Butland’s 8.5% ownership will be hopeful of a third successive shut-out. In terms of their rearguard recruits, Geoff Cameron’s 4.5 price tag and security of starts renders him an attractive squad filler over the short term as Ryan Shawcross closes in on a return to fitness. With the fixtures turning against the Potters from Gameweek 12, though, long-term investment in Mark Hughes’ men looks less appealing.

Swans Toils Continue

Swansea are now winless in five outings following their home defeat to the Potters and have triumphed in just two of their last 11 league encounters. Allied to that, Garry Monk’s men have failed to secure a clean sheet in six of their previous seven fixtures, frustrating Ashley Williams’ sizeable 9.5% ownership. Nonetheless, an upcoming road tie against an Aston Villa side that’s drawn a blank in all but one of their home clashes this term portends an improvement on that front.

Bafetimbi Gomis and Andrew Ayew were hugely ineffectual: the former mustered just one attempt on target and was continuously flagged for offside, while the latter didn’t card a single shot at goal. Both players currently sit in 19% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) sides and have scored one goal between them (courtesy of Ayew against Spurs in Gameweek 8) in the last five league matches. Whilst many will be keen to part company, the Swans square up to Villa, Norwich and Bournemouth in the next four and may yet profit from that favourable run.

Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey entered the referee’s notebook for the fourth time this season, putting him on the precipice of a one-match suspension – as the Swans’ top creative outlet (18 key passes), his potential absence would influence our assessment of their attacking prospects. Gylfi Sigurdsson’s diminishing band of owners will be looking for the exit door, though, after the Icelandic international was benched for the first time this term, as Garry Monk opted for Modou Barrow in the attacking midfield slots instead.

Time to finally get in Vardy. But I have Huth, Schmeichel and Mahrez for LEI so will have to take a hit (I've taken two eight point hits in two weeks and moved up 1million places, so I'm fine with this).

Wilson to Vardy will leave me with 0.3m ITB.

    A) Schmeichel to Butland
    B) Huth to Wollscheid (a snip at 4.3m)?
    C) Any other bright ideas?

Hazard out or Hazard keep in?

It's a question which brings mixed views. Do you keep a player who history has it is a 200 point earner per season and arguably the best player in the premier league OR do you get rid of a player who currently offers very little for his high price tag?

Well if we take Aguero as a slight example, yes i understand Aguero gets you 25 points where as Hazard doesn't but Aguero proved to us that give him that little bit extra time and he will repay you and prove his worth. For me Hazard is no different. Take a look at Sanchez, 1 assist in 6 games at the start of the season and then one week later he then becomes a key player and is in everyone's team. I understand Chelsea are in a different position to City and Arsenal as they are conceding goals and we all know how Mourinho feels about that. Chelsea will tighten up at the back and for me it's only a matter of time before Hazard finds his form so i will be keeping the faith and keeping him in my team!

Remember Form is Temporary, Class is permanent!

The difference is in the underlying stats. Sanchez was peppering the opposing GK before he hit form. Hazard doesn't know where the goal is. £11.2m for a winger who a non-goalscoring player at any position is way too much.

How would you feel if he grabs a goal and assist this weekend? Would that be enough for you to then consider him?

Yes. But with Jose saying praising Pedro and Willian's work rate and Pedro only out tonight with a minor injury he might not get the opportunity to even play.

Would you take 1 pt again and keep the faith with an £11.2m midfielder?

With Aguero and Sanchez, they were at least nailed on and looking threatening. Hazard got dropped and has not looked the part at all. The only thing that could save him is his penalty duties, but even that is in doubt with his recent history. Without penalties, he's hardly a prolific scorer in the Sanchez/Aguero mould is he?

No he may not be prolific in the sense but he still earns us 200 points a season as does Sanchez and Aguero

When he is fit and firing, yes. But he's far from it now. I'm basing this off the eye test, rather than how many points he's scored so far. He just isn't up to his standards, although I've never rated him as highly as others anyways. Wouldn't even have him in my top 5 players in the league 😛

    My other defenders are:

    Kompany, Francis, Bellerin, Richards

    I'm thinking:

Coleman: is he back to playing every game now
Monreal: would give me double Arsenal
Vertonghen: Spurs seem to have improved and he can get attacking points

Would be nice to get some thoughts from you guys

Herrera is always good, and still spends most of his time on the bench. 😉

Who to bench out of this front 8:

KDB, Sanchez, Payet, Mane, Ayew, Bojan, Pelle, Martial?

Obviously not Sanchez but there is a case for all the others.

Secondly Kolarov to Bellerin for a free transfer? Other defenders Wollscheid, Richards, Clyne and Targett.

To be honest bubz, i would consider Mahrez. has a point to prove, also for some weird reason i feel LEI CS incoming with a Huth goal from Mahrez corner. Not sure why, but i just do.

Planning ahead so I can get Aguero back easily,

    Sanchez - KDB - Walcott - Payet - Mahrez
    Pelle - Martial - Ighalo

    2.9 itb

Martial or Ighalo out for Vardy?

    A) Ighalo out means benching dilemma for a few weeks but then swapping Walcott and Martial to Westwood and Aguero and playing 343
    B) Martial out means Kolorov and Pelle to Nyom and Aguero and keeping the so called power 5 mid

    Thoughts?

  21. Energetics
    • 9 Years

    Butland (Ruddy)
    Azpi Bellerin Evans (Francis Kolorov)
    Sanchez Mata Mane Payet (Mahrez)
    Lukaku Pelle Vardy

    1.2 million ITB

The main problem I see with my team is a lack of City cover til Aguero comes back? How do I solve this?

If Herrera starts this gw again, could Mata to KDB and Mane to Herrera be an option next week?

With the fixture swing happening in week eleven are those without wildcards making huge changes or keeping the current faith?

Worth losing current performers from wba, west ham, Swansea etc in a cull for Everton, Watford etc?

Do payet and others' stats keep them in or do fixtures mean you'll lose them?

I think you need a WBA defender in your squad always. It's just how Pulis plays and there will be a lot of clean sheets and it's a proven fact.

Swansea do have decent fixtures, but their form is horrible.

I am not. It isn't like Liverpool shut off Spurs. Not at all in fact. Spurs should have scored 2 or maybe even 3. Mane might be a problem for Liverpool, especially with all the gegenpressing, Liverpool left a lot of room on the flanks to Spurs.

      1. Dynamic Duos
        • 10 Years

Yeh but Mane didn't exactly destroy the Leicester defence did he.

He won't destroy defences every week.

If I had to give them odds, Mane has more chances of 'destroying' Liverpool's defence than Cabaye getting another penalty.

            • 10 Years

Cabaye has more to his game than just being able to take penalties, he is by far palace's best player and Leicester is a plum fixture for goals

    Kolarov, Dawson, Richards

    bench: McCarthy, Morgan, Westy, Saylor.

It is a lot and as good it seems now, it'll be a problem to you when you have to get Aguero in. You'll be making transfers all over the squad.

Squad balance is key and that defence doesn't look balanced.

Trippier is always on Walker's toes. One big mistake and Poch might swap him with Trippier. Competition.
