FIFFSA – Five-a-side World Cup Update

Welcome to the latest update on the FIFFSA Five-A-Side World Cup. We are delighted to announce we already have 41 complete teams and nine more managers actively recruiting. This is a really impressive turn out already considering there are still two more weeks to sign up. We want to thank all of you for your participation and especially those who have already got in to the spirit of the tournament and have been making press conferences in the articles and making new gravatars for the occasion. The Tournament Format

As some of you have already been asking, we’d like to elaborate a bit on the tournament format, which we have previously said would follow a World Cup Format as closely as possible.

This means we want to stage a final 32 team World Cup in Thailand, staying true to this years amateur five-a-side World Cup’s location. To get to Thailand there will be a qualifying format not dissimilar to the FIFA World Cup’s qualifying process with qualifying groups and playoffs for best losers. The qualifying process will last between five and eight weeks to ensure that no teams leave the competition too early.

The exact format of the qualifying is yet to be worked out as the number of teams is still growing but we will finalise the process shortly after the registration deadline on November 11th.

How do the matches work?

The Five-A-Side World Cup is a tournament open to squads of six players, who will field a team of five players each week, with one player on the substitute’s bench. A team’s score each week will be the sum of the FPL scores of the five players the team fields.

Each week, teams will go head to head against another team and the team with the highest aggregate score will win that match.

Can I still join?

Anybody in the FFScout community with an official FPL team is eligible to join,Whether this is your first season or your tenth.

IF you want to join a team that is still recruiting, please check this spreadsheet to see which captains still have space and  then contact them either here on FFS or via email should you wish to join their nation.

For individuals who wish to participate in the tournament but not are unsure who you want to join, you can fill out this form for players looking for a team. Your details will then be included on our unaffiliated players list that will be passed to the team captains to recruit from. A post on this article may also attract the interest of a captain.

If you are interested in captaining your own nation, please email fiffsa.exec@gmail.com to confirm the nation’s availability and allow us to track team numbers. The countries to be represented will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis as captains volunteer themselves.

Once you have a team together, with at least five players but preferably six, you should fill out this form to register your squad.

For the new managers amongst us, FIFFSA have put together a brief guide on the captaincy role and what the job entails.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

As a final request, please do try and keep FIFFSA 5-A-Side chat to the comment sections of our articles.

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

The FIFFSA Executive Committee – President Sepp Balders, VP BabyB,  VP Jaffalicious!, VP Diva, VP Blue Lion and Secretary General Jerome Cheeseoid.

FPL is a simple game made complicated by double gameweek planners.

Good riddance? After losing a pre season match? I'm not quite sure where to begin but do you know what pre season matches are? The Community Shield must be a pretty big deal by Mexico's book 😉

Yes yes, you tanked to give us a false sense of security 😛

PS, its easy to make me see red. Just talk about how good a armband choice Mane is, or how good the Igholo bench points tastes 🙂 I just might tilt and to Alexis to Hazard

Exactly it was all part of our strategy 😉

Mane wasn't a bad captain choice, many had him. Benching Ighalo was unlucky.

Aren't we all looking for success for our respective teams? In our case we are confident the search will be successful.

Think of it as a mere training exercise. And we still almost sucker punched Mexico in stoppage time!

Looking forward to a rematch later in the tournament if you guys manage to stay alive after the 1st round

Two Swiss fantasy five-a-side team members face expulsion from the national squad after failing to appear at a Seychelles training camp, NZZ understands.

Although FIFFSA president Sepp Balders publicly claimed Switzerland was not appearing at a friendly tournament in Brazil this weekend because of injuries, rumours swirling around the national team camp suggest the real reason was the absence of two key squad members.

"There is no doubting the commitment of the two individuals to their work with FIFFSA, but their commitment to Switzerland has been called into question," said one insider, who refused to name the players concerned.

Asked whether the appearance of former UAE captain BSLOE Badger around the Swiss camp had anything to do with the missing players, the source said: "Badger was looking for a team to train with to regain fitness and we were happy to help."

*****Una Conferencia de Prensa, La Habana, Cuba*****

    Ladies and Gentlemen!

[The crowds of people suddenly stop dancing and turn around to face the tall, dark haired speaker, his facial hair gleaming in the Cuban sunshine. Men smoking cigars take their last toke; women drinking cocktails made of that beautiful ambrosia that is Cuban rum take their final sip, as they all wait anxiously for the next few moments. The sound of salsa becomes quieter and quieter until it fades in the distance].

Our time has come. We cannot sit idly by and watch the western powers treat our Catalonian friends with the utmost disrespect like they have done so already. We must come to their aid and fight for what is truly ours. INDEPENDENCIA!!!

[The crowd roar with approval and chant “INDEPENDENCIA”]

We will enter this FIFFSA World Cup tournament and we will show the world who we are. Somos hermanos! SOMOS CUBANOS!!

    [The crowd chant “SOMOS CUBANOS”]

Our team has been chosen by the best. I, Jaffalito, first of his name, will crush all who stand in our way and lead this group to victory!!

[Loud chants of JAFFA! JAFFA! JAFFA! Could be heard]

And now we move on to our team. Our trusted vice captain is none other than Señor Reedy. Competing in his tenth season on record, he has yet to learn how to roll a free transfer. He can however roll a cigar, thus sealing his place among the great and good of Team Cuba. A veteran maverick and inveterate hit-taker, it's often a case of feast or famine for this old gringo.

Cuba's fiery matriarch, better known on FFS for her ties with the English south coast, Lucita takes her place on the Cuban team hoping to help contribute to a Castro-nomical score, driven by her Fidel-ity to the Catalan cause. She intends to make sure that this competition isn't a case of 'close but no (Cuban) cigar'. And she will continue to stretch the Cuban theme for all the puns available.

Although he needs no introduction, he's getting one anyway. Sin Espinas Comadreja, or Spineless Weasel, commonly known as JK joins Team Cuba after leading Team Bangladesh to victory in the Cricket World Cup, the last tournament to be staged by FFS UEFA. Known for his love of a punt and a tendency to overthink every decision, he brings a wealth of tournament experience to the table. Now competing for Cuba, JK hopes for a smoking hot tournament and for the team to a-che-ve their dream.

Next up is the legendary Rupert, el caballo cubano, who works in a public house, spends more money than he has and more than enjoys a good scotch egg. Soon to be wed, he is loving life, with the only negative being a bad game week, or even one that could have gone better. His love of cured meats is astounding but unhealthy whilst his love of cheese and cheese puns is uncanny. We hope this tournament will be the first of many good things for him to come.

Finally, we round out the team with veteran manager Ché Bedknobs and Boomsticks. Previously and actor, his glittering career was cut short in tragic circumstances. His life was on a downward spiral until in summer of ‘05 he was saved by Fantasy Football. In addition to playing FPL, he now spends his time trying to put right what once went wrong.

This is the team that will lead us to victory and establish Cuba as a country not to be underestimated!

    SOMOS CUBANOS!!! INDEPENDENCIA!!!

    Public Service Announcement:

The decision of Cuba to give asylum to the leaders of the separatist movement has stirred the White House and we have deliberated late into the night of our next step.

After a 47hour 34minute of heated conversations we have came to a decision. We are imposing political and economical sanctions against Cuba.

We will not stand idly and watch so called freedom fighters trying to divide free world. As Americans we have to stand united and show our strength and put a stop to this separatism that has plagued the world. No more. I say no more. America says no more.
Democracy shall prevail. Let us put a stop to this together. Democratic countries of the world, unite against a common foe and let us prevail. We are calling everyone to impose sanctions on Cuba and contain this outbreak of separatism.

    SAY NO TO SEPARATISM.

    End of Public Service Announcement.

There will be a couple of errors in the scores, but nothing that will affect the outcome of the 'games'. Rose assist was removed mid way through my calculations, but not many had him I think just 1 or 2 did.

Kane's BAPS have also skewed things a little, but again, it won't affect the outcome of the 'games' as they aren't that tight.

    The scores are in!

The numbers in the brackets are the team's score / number of players, since some teams had only 5.

    Canada 382 (63.6) v 375 (62.5) Australia

    USA* 339 (67.8) v 307 (61.4) Tahiti*

    Portugal 402 (67) v 366 (61) Columbia

    Spain 366 (61) v 388 (64.6) Mexico

    Sri Lanka 391 (65.16) v 363 (60.5) Djibouti

    UAE 335 (55.83) v 376 (62.6) England

    Chile 361 (60.16) v 329 (65.8) Greece*

    San Marino 368 (61.3) v 336 (56) Scotland

    Wales 384 (64) v 388 (64.6) New Zealand

    South Africa 356 (59.3) v 391 (65.16) Jamaica

    Brazil 328 (54.6) v 342 (57) Malaysia

    North Korea 328 (54.6) v 380 (63.3) Germany

    Belgium 411 (68.5) v 390 (65) Barbados

    Netherlands 413 (68.83) v 389 (64.83) India

    *Teams with 5 players

Well done everyone, especially the Netherlands who were the highest scoring team!

Us Brazilians had a shocker, putting us joint bottom on points with North Korea. There were even teams with a player less who managed to beat us.

Please note: I added these up manually, so there are bound to be some errors. Furthermore, whilst I was adding them up, Rose had an assist removed and Kane moved up in the BAPS. As a result, some scores might differ to the ones which I have listed, although it shouldn't change the result of any of the games.

It looks as though Spain, Djibouti, Chile, San Marino joined Colombia in pulling of the perfect warm up

Getting scores between 360 and 370 does enough to remind everyone to take you seriously, but also theses teams should slip under the radar. These countries were obviously cabaple of much bigger scores, especially Colombia but as it has been said many times "The proper teams should be ready to hit their best at the World Cup"

Press release from Team Finland: There has been a lot of speculation on the whereabouts of the Finnish national team in the last couple of days. As everyone probably have noticed, Team Finland never arrived in Rio for the friendlies. Solely because of the neccesity of acclimatisation, we`ve chosen a one week training camp on a small island outside Surathani, Thailand, called Koh Phangan. We`ve played a couple of friendlies against the locals, and are still unbeaten. The squad is fully fit and performing well every on every session. There has been some sunburn-related niggles, but nothing serious to report. Finally, there is no truth in the rumours speculating that some team members have attended full moon parties on this particular island. Our only focus is the ultimate preparation for the tournament. As well as getting our scuba diving licenses.

►__________________ North Korean Team Update ___________________◄

      03 November 2015 07:13 Gmt.

Having fielded the womens team, North Korea lost out narrowly to Germany in the Brazilian friendlies this weekend. The mens first team were given the time off in Brazil to wind down, after an exhaustive training regime, with a long journey forthcoming to the Philippines.

North Korea pays homage to Kim Wild Rover for winning October's monthly prize in UFPL and now sits on top of the World overall. Fantastic achievement !

All team members are required to be on board "The Wing Wong Winehouse" tomorrow morning @ 06.00 am prompt, as our journey is a long one. No bum bums will be allowed on the ship.

      End.

Team Switzerland Update - Further expulsion from the team.

Following the shocking news that Cuba have been found to have taken in the Catalonian rebels, led by the evil Jaffalito, FIFFSA can exclusively reveal that Babyb has been expelled from the Switzerland team.

Babyb was quoted as saying "While i have enjoyed my time in Switzerland, eating the cheese and running through the hills with Maria to the sound of music, sometimes, we must think of others before ourselves. I will not allow Sepp Balders to silence my views and no amount of money can change my mind.

Watching Cuba spread their ideology by giving safe passage to the trouble makers in the hope of destabilising the free world is simply unacceptable.

As such, i have renounced my Swiss citizenship and am currently traveling to the greatest nation in the world, Team USA, with the sole purpose of humiliating Cuba at the 5-a-side world cup.

I set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won, and they must be won and used for the progress of all people. For 5-a-side football, like all sports, has no conscience of its own. Whether it will become a force for good or ill depends on man, and only if the United States occupies a position of pre-eminence can we help decide whether this new ocean will be a sea of peace or a new terrifying theater of war.

But why, some say, the 5-a-side world cup? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask, why climb the highest mountain? Why fly the Atlantic?

We choose to win the world cup in this year, not because it is easy, but because it is hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win..

Hi everyone, I need some advice for my team. Just some quick history, I WC-ed on GW8, shipping Mahrez out. My team currently is as follow:

      Cech Darlow
      Bertrand Dier Janmaat Nyom Souare
      Sanchez Ayew Payet KDB Tettey
      Kane Vardy Pelle

      Problems currently:
      a) Janmaat Souare injury: might leave me with potentially just 3 defenders.
      b) No Mahrez: Shipped him out during GW8 WC.
      c) No Everton players at all.
      d) Clashing attacker-defender: ARS-TOT, owning Dier Cech Sanchez Kane, LEI-WAT, Vardy, Nyom

I have 1.1 ITB and 1 FT, which problem should I address first and what should I not be too worried about?
